Evaluation of Supply Adequacy of Park Service in Suwon-si by Urban Park Catchment Area Analysis (도시공원 이용권 분석을 통한 수원시 공원서비스의 적정성 평가)

  • In the city, the urban park contributes to the quality of citizen life in many ways, and the importance of the urban park as an urban planning facility is growing each day. In this study, evaluation of park service supply adequacy in Suwon-si, the difference in analysis methods, and the type of land use at urban park catchment area analysis were analyzed. As a result, there were remarkable differences between the two analysis methods. In Suwon-si, the catchment area by network analysis was only about 41% of catchment area by buffer analysis. However, when basic local authorities establish planning of parks and green areas, they use buffer analysis to calculate the park service area. It means that such calculations of urban park service areas may be wider than actually used. Also, because there were differences between urban park catchment areas by land use types, guidelines of planning parks and green areas will be adjusted. Although quantitative expansion of the park area is also important for the realization of green welfare, it is necessary to consider city characteristics such as the population size, population density, land use types, and so on.

A Study on Social Carrying Capacity in Outdoor Recreation Setting: An Exploratory Analysis on the Perceived Crowding Path Model in National Park (옥외휴양공간에서의 사회적 수용능력연구: 국립공원에서의 혼잡지각의 경로모형 분석)

  • The primary concerns of recreation plan are to provide visitors with quality of recreational experience and to protect of recreation resources. The quality of recreational experience is often defined in terms of social carrying capacity. The carrying capacity is revealed as perceived crowding. In this respects, measuring perceived crowding is useful tool of social carrying capacity determination. This study is to test the structural equation model that includes variables affecting perceived crowding. Through an on-site questionnaire survey, 467 visitors on Naejangsan national park were collected. The results of the study are follows. The encounter level on facility area is higher evaluated as crowding factor than other area in the park. It can be concluded that visitor perceived crowding when facility area situates high density use level rather than other areas expose high density use level. In the path analysis, the input variables(attitude, experience, encounter level) on the structural equation model affect significantly on perceived crowding. Especially, the attitude on the park management polocy is the most affecting factor on perceived crowding.

Analysis of the Main Habitat for Siberia Musk Deer (Moschus moschiferus) Restoration in Mt. Odae National Park, Korea (오대산국립공원 지역에 멸종위기종인 사향노루 복원을 위한 주요 서식지 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic information about Siberia Musk Deer (Moschus moschiferus), and to establish a conservation area for the replacement of Siberia Musk Deer into Mt. Odea National Park, South Korea. We analyzed the main habitat for Siberia Musk Deer restoration in Mt. Odae National Park, Korea. We recorded Siberia Musk Deers' field signs (i.e., bedding sites, feeding areas, feces and tracks), and habitat variables such as nearest distance to the watercourse, trails, slope, aspect, forest type and land cover etc. from Dec. 2004 to Aug. 2007 in Mt. Jiri, Mt. Seorak, and Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Rocky areas, ridges, mixed coniferous forest (Red pine and Mongolian oak), southern and southeastern slope, elevation of above 800m, and distance from watercourse shorter than 300m etc. were dominant habitat types of Siberia Musk Deer. Based on the significant habitat types, a proper conservation plan should be prepared for the restoration of habitats in order to reintroduce, and to increase the population of Siberia Musk Deer in Mt. Odea National Park, South Korea. Small population size, and limited ecological data are the major constraints for the establishment of conservation areas. Furthermore, other anthropogenic factors including human activities, poaching, and residential area around the park caused the difficulties to qualify as a conservation area. For the successful establishment of conservation area in the future, it is recommended to conduct a comprehensive ecological research, and to survey human disturbances including their impacts on the habitats of Siberia Musk Deer in the Mt. Odea National Park.

The Study for the Usage of Neighborhood Parks as a Festival Space in Small and Medium Sized Cities (지방 중소도시 근린공원의 축제공간적 활용에 관한 연구)

  • In 2011, neighborhood parks occupied a total area of $280,135,257m^2$ in small and medium sized city areas and this excluded the metropolitan regions. In the rural area, the park area per person($22.64m^2$) is larger than the urban area($9.50m^2$). It is a questionable why there is a higher park ratio in the rural area compared to the cities, where the function of the neighborhood parks is not being utilized well. But, there are already a lot of parks that has been constructed in the rural areas and a lot of money is being spent in maintaining them. Hence, rather than reducing the number of "country parks", it can be suggested that these "country parks" ought to be utilized in a different manner than the parks in the city. In that point of view, this study examined the issues of the country park usage along with the utilization of the local festivals within the parks. Firstly in this context, this study compared the amount of neighborhood parks between small and medium sized cities and metropolitan areas, and analyzed those results. Secondly, daily newspaper articles were collected and categorized to find the usage of the rural park which were then analyzed. Then, the extraction of the essential points in composing the festival space was carried out. Also, the general design guides of making the neighborhood parks were drawn. Last but not least, using these two resources, this study suggested design guidelines for using neighborhood parks as a Festival Space in small and medium sized cities.

Evaluation of Park Re-planning by Feasibility Study in Korea National Parks - Focusing on Area Adjustment of Hallyeohaesang National Park - (국립공원 타당성검토에 따른 공원재계획 평가 - 한려해상국립공원 구역조정을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the area adjustment criteria and methods of the feasibility study of national park plans by applying them to Hallyeohaesang National Park. As a result of the ecological-based assessment used to identify the adjustment target areas, the ecological-based assessment Grades I and II that can be considered for inclusion were analyzed as 10.0% and 40.4%, respectively. Grade V, which can be considered for release, was 9.9%. As a result of the inclusion and release suitability assessment, the area subject to inclusion was 35.150 km2 (3.669 km2 on land and 31.481 km2 at sea), and the area subject to release was 0.071 km2 on land. When local governments and residents request the release of a park area for public interest or convenience, the release can be considered as long as the total area does not change, which is called a mutual exchange. The release area determined by mutual exchange was 10.386 km2. It was 146 times the area determined by the suitability assessment for release. Matching the areas released by the mutual exchange with the ecological-based assessment, 70.6% (7.321 km2) was in Grades I and II, which can never be released. As a result, it was determined that the area adjustment of the feasibility study of Hallyeohaesang National Park was based on a very limited application of the results of the ecological-based assessment or the release suitability assessment. Also, mutual exchange was the key to area adjustment of the feasibility studies of national parks.
