  • Solar PV(photovoltaic) is paid great attention to as a possible renewable energy source to overcome recent global energy crisis. However to be a viable alternative energy source compared with fossil fuel, its market competitiveness should be attained. Grid parity is one of effective measure of market competitiveness of renewable energy. In this paper, we forecast the grid parity timing of solar PV energy in Korea using two factor learning curve model. Two factors considered in the present model are production capacity and technological improvement. As a result, it is forecasted that the grid parity will be achieved in 2019 in Korea.

  • A study of 188 lactations of Holstein cows in Gwangju area was undertaken to establish the shape of lactation curve during the period from October in 1980 to January in 1982. The Gammafunction described by Wood(1967) was fitted to the lactations observed. The results obtained in the present study were summarized as follows; 1. The lactation curve of the 188 lactations was expressed by the equation based on Wood's model (1967) as follows; Yn=24.5m0.0762e-0.0944n(R2=0.99) 2. The lactation curves by parity were represented by the equations as follows; Yn=18.81n0.1486e-0.0741n(R2=0.98)……………parity 1 Yn=26.51n0.1161e-0.1200n(R2=0.96)……………parity 2 Yn=26.95n0.2804e-0.1703n(R2=0.99)……………parity 3 Yn=27.92n0.1429e-0.1427n(R2=0.98)……………parity 4 Yn=22.61n0.1985e-0.1211n(R2=0.94)……………parity 5 3. • The accuracy of the gamma function to describe lactation curve of Yankasa ewes was investigated using milk production data obtained from 168 ewes with either complete or incomplete 84 day lactation records. Ewes were daily hand milked after over-night separation from lamb and thorough disinfection of the udder. The daily milk yield on the average was estimated from the weekly total yield. The effect of type of birth, parity, season of birth and lactation length on the components of lactation curve (a, b, c and s) were analysed by least-square procedures. All factors except parity significantly (p<0.01) influenced the curve parameters. The goodness of fit of the function did not differ between the two classes of varying duration of lactation; incomplete lactation however, showed a lower persistency and as expected lower level of production. Correlations ($r_p$) between lamb weight gain and milk yield using the weight records from lamb weighed at weekly intervals indicated a high and positive relationship in the early lactation that decreased in intensity as the lactation advanced.

  • Objective: Litter size and piglet loss at birth significantly impact piglet production and are closely associated with sow parity. Understanding how these traits vary across different parities is crucial for effective herd management. This study investigates the patterns of the number of born alive piglets (NBA), number of piglet losses (NPL), and the proportion of piglet losses (PPL) at birth in Landrace sows under tropical conditions. Additionally, it aims to identify the most suitable model for describing these patterns. Methods: A dataset comprising 2,322 consecutive reproductive records from 258 Landrace sows, spanning parities from 1 to 9, was analyzed. Modeling approaches including 2nd and 3rd degree polynomial models, the Wood gamma function, and a longitudinal model were applied at the individual level to predict NBA, NPL, and PPL. The choice of the best-fitting model was determined based on the lowest mean and standard deviation of the difference between predicted and actual values, Akaike information criterion (AIC), and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). Results: Sow parity significantly influenced NBA, NPL, and PPL (p<0.0001). NBA increased until the 4th parity and then declined. In contrast, NPL and PPL decreased until the 2nd parity and then steadily increased until the 8th parity. The 2nd and 3rd degree polynomials, and longitudinal models showed no significant differences in predicting NBA, NPL, and PPL (p>0.05). The 3rd degree polynomial model had the lowest prediction standard deviation and yielded the smallest AIC and BIC. Conclusion: The 3rd degree polynomial model offers the most suitable description of NBA, NPL, and PPL patterns. It holds promise for applications in genetic evaluations to enhance litter size and reduce piglet loss at birth in sows. These findings highlight the importance of accounting for sow parity effects in swine breeding programs, particularly in tropical conditions, to optimize piglet production and sow performance.

  • This paper presents methods to the construction of regular and irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on Euclidean geometries over the Galois field. Codes constructed by these methods have quasi-cyclic (QC) structure and large girth. By decomposing hyperplanes in Euclidean geometry, the proposed irregular LDPC codes have flexible column/row weights. Therefore, the degree distributions of proposed irregular LDPC codes can be optimized by technologies like the curve fitting in the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts. Simulation results show that the proposed codes perform very well with an iterative decoding over the AWGN channel.

  • The effect of evaporative cooling in alleviating seasonal variations of dairy cows raised in AlMarai Dairy Farms in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were studied using milking record collected during the period of 1991 to 1996. The data included 13303 and 8137 records represented winter and summer calving seasons. Evaporative cooling system improved production for cows calved in summer. The least square means of milk yield were 9631 and 9556 liter for cows calved in winter and summer seasons but no significant differences (p<0.05) were observed between the yield of two seasons. No significant effect of season on calving under evaporative cooling on most of the biweekly points of the lactation curve. The farm, parity and milk level showed a significant effect on the shape of the curve. Functions of the lactation curve like initial yield, 305 MY, peak yield, time of peak and duration were estimated for each phase of the lactation curve.

Farm, appraisal year-month, appraisal person should affect linear type and scoring traits. Most of type traits and scoring traits would be significantly affected by parity and lactation stage after absorbing farm-appraisal year-month-person effects. Otherwise, some traits such as traits related to udder would be affected by registration criteria. However, interval of appraisal time and milking time would not affect these traits. The scores related to udder, teat placement and foot angle would be positively related to parity. Final score would be optimized at cows of 2nd and 3rd parities. Dairy form, front teat placement, rear udder height, rear udder width and final score would show similar to pattern of lactation curve at lactation stage. Dairy capacity composite index would also show similar to lactation curve. This result would be indicated that more concise standardizing system for linear type scoring rules would be needed. Furthermore, correcting system for parity and lactation stage would be needed because this factor should affect physiological status, specially, udder status.

  • The fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) technology may be applied in order to decrease the energy consumption and the maintenance cost of the air conditioning system. In this study, rule bases and curve fitting models were used to detect faults in an air handling unit. Gradually progressed faults, such as the fan speed degradation, the coil water leakage, the humidifier nozzle clogging, the sensor degradation and the damper stoppage, were applied to the developed FBD system. Simulation results show good detections and diagnoses of these faults. Therefore, this method may be effectively used for the fault detection and diagnosis of the air handling unit.

  • DMT Freight is judged that economic performance is good because can increase cargoes than existing freight. However, the existing freight cars, each with a different balance to the body structure is bogie because the vibrations may occur. Thus, by minimizing vibration over the existing freight securing the safety of the driving if you will not have major problems in cargoes. In this study, multi-body dynamic analysis tool, VI-Rail using the actually Gyeongbu Railroad line and an empty, full freight condition include curve radius, track irregularity, cent. DMT freight of the derailed wagons were assessed for safety analysis. Full and empty freight conditions for parity in the Gyeongbu Railroad line(Dongdaegoo ${\leftrightarrow}$Gyungsan) derailment safety analysis, such as derailment safety coefficient and the radius wheel road decrement, echoing the curve and the orbit is affected by the irregularity was found. Full freight condition than the empty conditions showed a significant derailment safety. Overall, the limits of derailment coefficient (Q/P=0.8) and wheel road decrement limits (${\Delta}P/P=0.6$) is less safe with me confirmed that the derailment safety.
