  • In order to avoid the interference from existing narrowband communication systems, this paper proposes a compact band-notched UWB (ultra wideband) antenna with size of $12mm{\times}22mm{\times}1.6mm$. Transmission line model is applied to analyzing wide impedance matching characteristic of the modified base antenna, which has a gradual stepped impedance feeder structure. The proposed antenna realizes dual band-notched function by combining two biased T-shaped parasitic elements on the rear side with a window aperture on the radiation patch. The simulation current distributions of the antenna reflect resonant suppression validity of the two methods. In addition, the measured radiation characteristics demonstrate the proposed antenna prevents signal interference from WLAN (5.15-5.825GHz) and WiMAX (3.4-3.69GHz) effectively, and the measured patterns show the antenna omnidirectional radiation in working frequencies.

  • A twisted inverted-F antenna(TIFA) is proposed for a dual-band application. The TIFA features a twisted line for dual bands and a parasitic line for additional resonance. The proposed antenna has wideband characteristics at the high frequency band due to the merge of the resonances of the twisted line and the parasitic line. The electric size of the antenna is $0.109{\lambda}{\times}0.025{\lambda}{\times}0.0025{\lambda}$, whose length is about 44% of that of a conventional inverted-F antenna. The fabricated antenna on a thin FR4 substrate was measured to operate at 960 MHz with a bandwidth of 47 MHz, and at 1.8 GHz with a bandwidth of 289 MHz for $S_{11}$ less than -5 dB; the radiation efficiencies were 49% and 57%, respectively.

  • In this paper, characteristics of the wide band microstrip antennas with parasistic element are analyzed by the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method, and antenna parameters are optimized to get maximum bandwidth, retern loss, input impedance, and radiation pattern are calculated by Founier transforming the time domain results. The characteristics of the antenna are varied and the bandwidth of the antenna is broaded as a length and a width of the driven element, a gap of the driven element and the parasitic element, a width and a length of parasitic element. So the different patchs are resonating at different frequencies and this multipule resonance increase the bandwidth. The Results of the calculation and measurement, the size of the antenna with parasitic element is about a twice larger than a microstrip antenna, but bandwidth is four times better than a microstrip antenna. And these results were in relatively good accordance with the measured values.

  • This paper presents the basic characteristics of a cutoff cavity-hacked slot antenna, for the application of spacetenna, with a feed post and a parasitic post inserted parallel to the slot. This type of antenna might effectively excite the slot and forcibly resonate the cavity by adding external reactance to the parasitic post. The Galerkin\`s method of moments is used to analyze integral equations for the unknown electric current on each post and electric field in the slot. The value of external reactance for forced resonance is discussed by deriving a determining equation, the current distribution on each post and the radiation patterns are considered. The analysis is in excellent agreement with the experiment for the radiation patterns.

  • In this paper Dual Band Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna(DLPDA), which can be used at the Cellular/IMT-2000 band, is proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of 2 of Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna(LPDA) and parasitic elements. To investigate the reliability of the proposed antenna, DLPDA is designed at the cellular/IMT-2000 band and analyzed by using the method of moment, Numerical results are compared with measured results. It is shown that although the antenna length is 70 cm, its radiation characteristics satisfied the design goals of gain, VSWR and beamwidth at the Cellular/IMT-2000 band. From these results, the proposed DLPDA is confirmed as the dual band antenna which can be used at the cellular/IMT-2000 band.

  • In this paper, the small loop antenna with a parasitic loop structure for penta-band mobile phone application is proposed. This antenna is composed of a feed monopole, a radiating loop antenna with a parasitic loop structure and an additional radiating element. The antenna is printed on the very thin flexible substrate to mount on the dielectric carrier with a volume of 40 mm$\times$11 mm$\times$3 mm. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 402 MHz(773~1,175 MHz) for low band and 583 MHz(1,622~2,205 MHz) for high band. As a result, the proposed antenna covers the five bands of GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1,900 and WCDMA for a 3:1 VSWR. Moreover, the radiation pattern, gain and efficiency are appropriate for mobile handset. Therefore, this antenna is suitable for small sized multi-band mobile handset applications.

  • In this paper, we proposed a U-shaped broadband RFID tag antenna with a parasitic element operating at UHF band. The proposed tag antenna consists of a U-shaped half wavelength dipole antenna and an inverse U-shaped parasitic element inside the U-shaped dipole antenna. In order to have good impedance matching, the commercial tag chip is attached to the lower center of the rectangular shaped feed. On the condition of VSWR<2, the tag antenna had the measured bandwidth of 4.96 % from 882 to 927 MHz and showed the gain deviation of less than 3.16 dB. On the condition of VSWR<5.8, the tag antenna satisfies the worldwide UHF RFID bandwidth and is showed the gain deviation of less than 5.07 dB. The minimum gain deviation characteristic appears near the center of bandwidth which minimizes variation of gain deviation characteristic with respect to the frequency.

  • In this paper, the antenna for parking management using wireless communication in outdoor parking environment was proposed. The proposed antenna was miniaturized by using parasitic element to reduce the size of the radiating element of the basic ${\lambda}/2$ microstrip antenna. The dimensions of the proposed antenna are $35mm{\times}35mm{\times}20.1mm$ that is 98.7% smaller than $309.1mm(0.46{\lambda}){\times}296.1mm(0.441{\lambda}){\times}20.1mm(0.029{\lambda})$ of the basic ${\lambda}/2$ microstrip antenna. The electrical characteristics of the antenna are 1.1 dBi at the center frequency of 447 MHz, an omni-directional radiation pattern on the E-plane, and $87.5^{\circ}$ of HPBW on the H-plane. The miniaturized ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antenna using parasitic element has proved to be easy to mount on the wireless repeater, the sensor node installed on the ground, and the strop bar in the outdoor parking environment.

  • In this paper, we propose and fabricate the dual-band microstrip patch antenna with parasitic patch for S-DMB(Satellite-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and ITS (Intelligent Transport System) services. The measured - 10 dB bandwidth and the minimum return loss is 300 MHz and - 27 dB for S-DMB, 600 MHz and -17 dB for ITS, respectively. It is noticed that the measured and simulated results are agreed well. The S-DMB antenna has conical beam pattern in the vertical plane and has omni-directional beam pattern in the horizontal plane. The conical beam pattern has the maximum gain about 4.2 dBi when ${\theta}$ is $45^{\circ}$ at the center frequency of 2.6 GHz. The ITS antenna has directional beam pattern in the vertical plane that has maximum gain about 6.4 dBi when ${\theta}$ is $0^{\circ}$ at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz.

  • Recently, utilization of MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) system using array antennas is evaluated significantly according to the extension of high-capacity and high-speed communication services. However, MIMO system has disadvantages such as high-complexity and high-power-consumption, because RF(Radio Frequency) chain is required as antenna number, and several array antenna is used in conventional MIMO system. In order to solve these problems, research about beamspace MIMO system using ESPAR(Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator) antenna that has single RF chain by using one active antenna and several parasitic elements has been studied actively. Beamspace MIMO system using ESPAR antenna is possible to solve the problems of conventional MIMO system, because this system is composed by single RF chain. In this paper, in order to improve the system security, chaos communication algorithm that has characteristics such as non-periodic, non-predictability, easy implementation and initial condition is applied to QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulated beamspace MIMO system. We design the chaos QPSK modulated beamspace MIMO system, and evaluate SER performance of this system.
