  • The design of an occupant protection equipment has been considered as the important process in developing a new car since the crash performance plays an important role on the market. The cost is increased when an unexpected real test is carried out in the proto-design stage. Thus, the exact prediction of a crash performance can reduce the number of full-car test. In this research, the robust design of an airbag system considering the frontal crash is suggested to predict the more reliable responses. On the contrary, most existing researches do not consider the uncertainties. The uncertainties treated in this research are the tolerances of the vent hole, the time to fire and the length of a strap in airbag and the tolerance of the load limiter load in seat belt. The Taguchi method is utilized to determine the robust optimum of each parameter

  • The damping force of shock absorber in an automobile is determined by the components which construct the S/A. In this study we investigate the individual effect of these components on damping force. In addition, opening of important valve doling compression and tension cycle due to up-down reciprocation movement is also researched. Thus we are to strictly control the properties and tolerance of components having important effects on tile damping force and to produce S/A of better quality.

  • Calibration of Engine models is a painstaking process but very important for successful application to automotive industry problems. A combined heuristic and machine learning approach has therefore been adopted to improve the efficiency of model calibration. We developed an intelligent calibration program called ICALIB. It has been used on a daily basis for engine model applications, and has reduced the time required for model calibrations from many hours to a few minutes on average. In this paper, we describe the heuristic control strategies employed in ICALIB such as a hill-climbing search based on a state distance estimation function, incremental problem solution refinement by using a dynamic tolerance window, and calibration target parameter ordering for guiding the search. In addition, we present the application of amachine learning program called GID3*for automatic acquisition of heuristic rules for ordering target parameters.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient regularization technique (The Method of Regularized Ratios) for the reconstruction of the shape of a rigid elastic scatterer from far field measurements. The approach used is based on the factorization method and creates via Picard's condition ratios, baptized Regularized Ratios, that serve to effectively remove unwanted singular values that may lead to poor reconstructions. This is achieved through the use of a sophisticated algorithm that progressively adjusts an initially set moderate tolerance. In comparison with the well established Tikhonov-Morozov regularization techniques our new algorithm appears to be more computationally efficient as it doesn't require computation of the regularization parameter for each point in the grid.

  • The HPFRCCs show that the multiple crack propagation, high tensile strength and ductility due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. Moreover, performance of cement composites varies according to type and weight contents of reinforcing fiber. and HPFRCCs with hybrid fiber have better performance than HPFRCCs with single fiber in damage tolerance. Total four cylindrical specimens were tested, and the main variables were the type and weight contents of fiber, which was polyvinylalchol (PVA), polyethylene (PE). In order to clarify effect of hybrid types on the characteristics of fracture and damage process in cement composites, AE method was performed to detect micro-cracking in HPFRCCs under cyclic compression. Loading conditions of the uniaxial compression test were monotonic and cyclic loading. And from AE parameter value, it is found that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the amplitude as compared with the first compressive load cvcle.

  • The HPFRCCs show the multiple crack and damage tolerance capacity due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. For practical application, it is needed to investigate the fractural behavior and of HPFRCCs and understand the micro-mechanism of cement matrix with reinforcing fiber. The objectives of this paper are to examine the compressive behavior, fracture and damage process of HPFRCC by acoustic emission technique. Total four series were tested, and the main variables were the hybrid type, polyethylene (PE) and steel cord (SC), and fiber volume fraction. The damage progress by compressive behavior of the HPFRCCs is characteristic for the hybrid fiber type and volume fraction. And from acoustic emission (AE) parameter value, it is found that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the ring-down count rate as compared with the first compressive load cycle.

  • As product quality is maily determined in the product design and process design step, systematic design should be performed through parameter design and tolerance design. Therefore, we introduced analysis of variance and regression analysis as a statistical method which determine optimal levels of affective design factors to product characteristics, then we compared that process and result. In analysis of variance, variation of quality characteristics arises from noise factors, so the optimal levels of design factors are selected to minimize the effect of noise factors. In regression analysis, variation of quality characteristics aries from variation of each own design factors. As a method to reduce variation of these quality characteristics, sensitivity analysis was performed about each design factors. Through this sensitivity analysis, we represented process to calculate the interaction term of the factors.

  • An instrumentation amplifier (IA) and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) are essential circuit blocks for accurate and robust sensor readout systems. This paper introduces recent advances in radiation-hardening by design (RHBD) techniques applied for the sensor readout integrated circuits (IC), e.g., the three-op-amp IA and the successive-approximation register (SAR) ADC, operating against total ionizing dose (TID) and singe event effect (SEE) in harsh radiation environments. The radiation-hardened IA utilized TID monitoring and adaptive reference control to compensate for transistor parameter variations due to radiation effects. The radiation-hardened SAR ADC adopts delay-based double-feedback flip-flops to prevent soft errors which flips the data bits. Radiation-hardened IA and ADC were verified through compact model simulation, and fabricated CMOS chips were measured in radiation facilities to confirm their radiation tolerance.

  • The damping force is determined by four valves and the components which consist of the shock absorber for vehicle. In this study it is investigated the individual effects of four valves and these components on damping forces using dynamic behaviour analysis program of the shock absorber. In addition, opening of main valves are researched during compression and tension cycle due to up- down reciprocation movement of piston. We are to strictly control the properties and tolerance of componenets having important effects on the damping force. Thus we are intended to produce shock absorber of better quality.

  • The current cloud computing paradigm is still vulnerable to a significant number of system failures. The increasing demand for fault tolerance and resilience in a cost-effective and device-independent manner is a primary reason for creating an effective means to address system dependability and availability concerns. This paper focuses on online failure prediction for cloud computing systems using system runtime data, which is different from traditional tolerance techniques that require an in-depth knowledge of underlying mechanisms. A 'failure prediction' approach, based on Cloud Theory (CT) and the Hidden Markov Model (HMM), is proposed that extends the HMM by training with CT. In the approach, the parameter ω is defined as the correlations between various indices and failures, taking into account multiple runtime indices in cloud computing systems. Furthermore, the approach uses multiple dimensions to describe failure prediction in detail by extending parameters of the HMM. The likelihood and membership degree computing algorithms in the CT are used, instead of traditional algorithms in HMM, to reduce computing overhead in the model training phase. Finally, the results from simulations show that the proposed approach provides very accurate results at low computational cost. It can obtain an optimal tradeoff between 'failure prediction' performance and computing overhead.
