The stochastic phenomena of traffic network condition, such as traffic speed and density, are affected not only by exogenous traffic control but also by endogenous changes in service time during congestion. In this paper, we propose a mixed M/G/1 queuing model by introducing a condition-varying parameter of traffic congestion to reflect structural changes in the traffic network. We also develop congestion indices to evaluate network efficiency in terms of traffic flow and economic cost in traffic operating system using structure-changing queuing model, and perform scenario analysis according to various traffic network improvement policies. Empirical analysis using Korean highway traffic operating system shows that our suggested model better captures structural changes in the traffic queue. The scenario analysis also shows that occasional reversible lane operation during peak times can be more efficient and feasible than regular lane extension in Korea.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of the HSPEXP expert system for the calibration of the Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran (HSPF) for the study watershed. HSPEXP offers advice to the modeler, suggesting parameter changes that might result in better representation of a river basin and provides explanations supporting the recommended parameter changes. The study watershed, Sancheong, is located within the Nakdong River Basin and having the size of $1,072.4km^2$. Input data for the HSPF model were obtained from the landuse map, digital elevation map, meteorological data and others. Water flow data from 2006 to 2008 were used for calibration and from 2009 to 2010 were for validation. Using the HSPEXP expert system, hydrological parameters were adjusted based on total volume, then low flows, storm flows, and finally seasonal flows. For the calibration and validation period, all the HSPEXP model performance criteria were satisfied.
Growth and changes of electronically conducting polypyrrole (PPy) in the form of thin films polymerized on metal electrodes were investigated by electrochemical and in situ three-parameter ellipsometry methods at the wavelength of 632.8 nm. Although the optical equations produced multiple sets of solution, it was possible to determine a unique set of thickness and the optical constants of a film by auxiliary measurements and/or physical reasoning. The changes in the thickness and the optical properties of the polymers during polymerization and electrochemical oxidation/reduction was successfully followed by the three-parameter ellipsometric technique. The optical properties of the polymers continuously changed as the film grew. The imaginary part of the refractive index of polypyrrole seemed to be dominantly determined by the existence of an absorption band around the visible range.
The predictive speed control (PSC) strategy can realize the simultaneous control of speed and current by using one cost function. As a model-based control method, the performance of the PSC is vulnerable to model mismatches such as load torque disturbances and parameter uncertainties. To solve this problem, this paper presents a robust predictive speed control (RPSC) strategy for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drives. The proposed RPSC uses extended state observers (ESOs) to estimate the lumped disturbances caused by load torque changes and parameter mismatches. The observer-based prediction model is then compensated by using the estimated disturbances. The introduction of ESOs can achieve robustness against predictive model uncertainties. In addition, a modified cost function is designed to further suppress load torque disturbances. The performance of the proposed RPSC scheme has been corroborated by experimental results under the condition of load torque changes and parameter mismatches.
This paper tries to evaluate the control performance of systeme in cases of parameter perturbations. Six cases of the root distribution and location changes of each characteristic roots by the parameter perturbation are considered as evaluation factors. A qualitative evaluation is performed through several simulations. These results will be used as a basic data for the complete analysis of the control performance.

We shall propose several estimators for the scale parameter in a uniform distri-bution with a generalized uniform outlier when the scale parameter is a function of a known exposure level, and obtain expectations and variances for their proposed estima-tors. And we shall compare numerically efficiencies for proposed estimators of changed parameters of the scale in the small sample sizes.

In aquifers connected hydraulically, the levels of groundwater respond to stream stages. Analytical solutions by Laplace transform and convolution integral are used to get some response patterns about hydrogeoiogic parameter such as hydraulic conductivity, specific storage in confined aquifer. This method has the advantage to do hydrogeologic parameter estimations only with stream stage changes.

We consider the problem of testing for parameter changes in time series models based on a cusum test. Although the test procedure is well-established for the mean and variance in time series models, a general parameter case has not been discussed in the literature. Therefore, here we develop a cusum test for parameter change in a more general framework. As an example, we consider the change of the parameters in an RCA(1) model and that of the autocovariances of a linear process. We also consider the variance change test for unstable models with unit roots and GARCH models.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are characterized by low capacity on each nodes and links. Wireless links have high bit error rate (BER) parameter that changes frequently due to the changes on network topology, interference, etc. To guarantee reliability in an error-prone environment, a retransmission mechanism can be used. In this mechanism, the number of retransmissions is used as a parameter that controls reliability requirement level. In this paper, we propose an Error Adaptive Transport Protocol (EATP) for WSNs that updates the number of retransmissions regularly to guarantee reliability during bit error rate changes as well as to utilize energy effectively. The said algorithm uses local information, thus, it does not create overhead problem.

The linear model following controller(LMFC) scheme controls a plant based on the output of a reference model, thereby replacing a PI controller that has better time response characteristics, which are irrelevant to the structural perturbation of a plant. However, the main weakness of the LMFC scheme is a slow response time to load changes. Thus, to solve this problem, a robust linear model following controller(RMFC) was developed that is robust in load changes. However, when compared with the LMFC scheme, the RMFC scheme has a weaker performance in the case of system parameter changes. Therefore, this paper presents a new LMFC scheme, where the controller is designed based on the output of a plant rather than the output of a model, as in the case of the conventional LMFC scheme. As a result, in the case of load changes, the response characteristics of the proposed scheme are slower than those of the RMFC scheme, yet laster than those of the conventional LMFC scheme, however, for parameter changes, the proposed scheme has a superior performance over the RMFC scheme. The usefulness of the proposed LMFC scheme is verified through a comparison using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
