  • This paper proposes an optimal methodology for automatically diagnosing and predicting the severity of the chronic kidney disease (CKD) using patients' utterances. In patients with CKD, the voice changes due to the weakening of respiratory and laryngeal muscles and vocal fold edema. Previous studies have phonetically analyzed the voices of patients with CKD, but no studies have been conducted to classify the voices of patients. In this paper, the utterances of patients with CKD were classified using the variety of utterance types (sustained vowel, sentence, general sentence), the feature sets [handcrafted features, extended Geneva Minimalistic Acoustic Parameter Set (eGeMAPS), CNN extracted features], and the classifiers (SVM, XGBoost). Total of 1,523 utterances which are 3 hours, 26 minutes, and 25 seconds long, are used. F1-score of 0.93 for automatically diagnosing a disease, 0.89 for a 3-classes problem, and 0.84 for a 5-classes problem were achieved. The highest performance was obtained when the combination of general sentence utterances, handcrafted feature set, and XGBoost was used. The result suggests that a general sentence utterance that can reflect all speakers' speech characteristics and an appropriate feature set extracted from there are adequate for the automatic classification of CKD patients' utterances.

  • A bed level change model(SED-FLUX) is introduced based on the realistic sediment transport process including bed load and suspended load behaviours at the bottom boundary layer. The model SED-FLUX includes wave module, hydrodynamic module and sediment transport and diffusion module that calculate suspended sediment concentration, net sediment erosion flux($Q_s$) and bed load flux. Bed load transport rate is evaluated by the van Rijn's TRANSPOR program which has been verified in wave-current fields. The net sediment erosion flux($Q_s$) at the bottom is evaluated as a source/sink term in the numerical sediment diffusion model where the suspended sediment concentration becomes a verification parameter of the $Q_s$. Bed level change module calculates a bed level change amount(${\Delta}h_{i,j}$) and updates a bed level. For the model verification the limit depth of the bed load transport is compared with the field experiment data and some formula on the threshold depth for the bed load movement by waves and currents. This model is applied to the beach profile changes by waves, then the model shows a clear erosion and accumulation profile according to the incident wave characteristics. Finally the beach evolution by waves and wave-induced currents behind the offshore breakwater is calculated, where the model shows a tombolo formation in the landward area of the breakwater.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of resin cement shade on the color of different novel ultratranslucent monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate veneer materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For a total of 40 specimens, flat cylindrical discs with a 9-mm diameter and 0.5-mm thickness were created using CAD/CAM technology. The specimens were divided into five groups according to their material (n = 8) (e.max, Prettau, Aidite, Shofu and Dima) using A1 shade. Resin discs with the same diameter and shade as the specimens served as tooth-colored substructures. Three shades (neutral, light and warm) of resin cement try-in pastes (Variolink Esthetic LC) were used as the luting cement material. The color of each material group was measured before and after cementation using the three cement shades, and the CIE L*a*b* coordinates were obtained with a spectrophotometer. Values for the translucency parameter (TP) and color change delta E (E) before (baseline) and after cementation of each specimen were determined. To compare differences among the material groups within each shade of cement and among various shades of cement within each material, the data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and post hoc testing. RESULTS. Color coordinates L*, a* and b* significantly changed after the application of try-in pastes relative to baseline values, with a noticeable decrease in lightness (L*) (P < .05). A significant color change (ΔE) was observed in all tested materials after cementation, with ΔE values exceeding 3.3 (P < .05). Although TP changed after cementation for most materials tested, these changes were not statistically significant (P > .05). Shofu and Dima ceramics showed the lowest TP values, while Aidite and Prettau showed the highest TP values. For e.max, translucency decreased after cementation with neutral and warm shades, and it significantly increased after cementation with a light shade. CONCLUSION. The shade of cement significantly altered the final color of the ceramic veneer material to a level above the threshold at which the clinical perception of color change occurred (> 3.3). The TP was not influenced by the cement shade. The translucency levels of the novel ultratranslucent multilayer monolithic zirconia ceramics Aidite and Prettau were higher than that of the lithium disilicate e.max material.

  • In the present study, free roll decay and resistance performances of fishing vessels were evaluated with the combinations and variations of in the parameters of appendages which are attached to improve motion performance of fishing vessels. Computational Ffluid Ddynamics was used to perform free roll decay and resistance analysis. The roll period and decay coefficient were derived by the variations in the combination and dimensions of the primary appendages of the bilge keel and the under keel. It was observed thatThe variations of in the length of the under keel did not significantly impact to the roll damping coefficient. Conversely, for the bilge keel, an increase in the length and angle resulted in an increase in the roll damping coefficient. Comparison of resistance performance was additionally assessed among the selected hulls with the appendages and bare hull. The resistance of the hull with the appendages was higher than that of the bare hull due owing to the changes of in the pressure on the surface of the hull and trim angle. Throughout the present study, the impact of appendage parameter and arrangement on the free roll decay and resistance performance of fishing vessels were was assessed,. which This will be beneficial for the application of appendages to fishing vessels.

  • Surfactin, one of the most powerful biosurfactants, can be widely applied in agriculture, food, and pharmaceutics. The purpose of the present study was to establish suitable indicators for a rapid detection method that can confirm the surfactin productivity of cheonggukjang. In the present study, changes in the total number of bacteria were quantified according to the fermentation time of chenggukjang. Furthermore, physicochemical factors, such as pH, color value, surface tension, refractive index, absorbance, and protein contents, were assessed in chenggukjang viscous substances, and a correlation analysis between the physicochemical factors and surfactin contents was performed. We found that the protein contents gradually increased up to 48 h (4.21±0.11 mg/mL) without a change in the surface tension. Furthermore, the refractive index, absorbance at 280 nm, and color value were significantly increased as the fermentation time increased; however, there were no statistically significant differences after 36 h of fermentation. Interestingly, this result exhibited a tendency similar to the surfactin content according to fermentation time. These findings suggest that surfactin can be used as a suitable quality indicator and may provide an experimental basis for the fermented food industry.

  • The present study investigated various thermodynamic parameters, microstructures and electrochemical behaviors of TiMoVCrZr and Ti-rich TiMoVCrZr high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared by vacuum arc remelting. The microstructures of the alloys were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and potentiodynamic polarization tests. The determined thermodynamic values of the Ω-parameter and the atomic size difference (δ) for the HEAs were determined to be in the range of Ω ≥ 1.1, and δ ≤ 6.6% with valance electron configuration (VEC) ≤ 5.0, suggesting the HEAs were effective at forming solid solutions. XRD patterns of the equiatomic Ti20Mo20V20Cr20Zr20 HEA revealed four phases consisting of the body centered cubic1 (BCC1), BCC2, hexagonal close-packed (HCP), and intermetallic compound Cr2Zr phases. Three phases were observed in the XRD patterns of Ti-rich Ti40Mo15V15Cr15Zr15 (BCC, HCP, and Cr2Zr) and a single BCC phase was observed in Ti-rich Ti60Mo10V10Cr10Zr10 HEAs. The backscattered-electron (BSE) images on the equiatomic Ti20Mo20V20Cr20Zr20 HEA revealed BCC and HCP phases with Cr2Zr precipitates, suggesting precipitation from the HCP solid solution during the cooling. The micro-segregation of Ti-rich Ti60Mo10V10C10Zr10 HEAs appeared to decrease remarkably. The alloying elements in the HEAs were locally present and no phase changes occurred even after additional HIP treatment. The lowest current density obtained in the polarization potential test of Ti-rich Ti40Mo15V15Cr15Zr15 HEA was 7.12×10-4 mA/cm2 was obtained. The studied TiMoVCrZr HEAs showed improved corrosion characteristics as compared to currently available joint replacement material such as ASTM F75 alloy.

  • In this study, FEM analysis was performed with the goal of optimal design of corrugated CFRP panels reinforcing H-shaped beams with slender plate webs. The buckling reinforcement performance of corrugated CFRP panels according to various specifications was evaluated, and in particular, a new reinforcement method was proposed by analyzing the effect of the ratio of vertical reinforcement according to the net height of the abdomen of the H-type beam on the location of the first elastic buckling mode. To minimize the amount of CFRP used, the attachment angle was set to 45 degrees. Furthermore, parameter analysis was performed according to changes in the specifications of the corrugated CFRP panel, and the buckling reinforcement performance of the corrugated CFRP panel was evaluated through the ductility factor. In addition, we attempted to use the material efficiently by simultaneously considering the maximum load and ductility factor along with the volume of the corrugated CFRP panels. It was confirmed that the model with two or three-layer CFRP laminate have a high ductility factor and efficient use of materials, and that the buckling reinforcement performance is predominantly affected by the length and height of the corrugated CFRP panel rather than the width.

  • Purpose : To examine whether changes of oxygenation index (OI) by postnatal age were different by the number of surfactant administration, and different between subgroups of survival and death. Methods : From January 2005 to June 2006, preterm infants (n=84) diagnosed as respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and treated with surfactant and ventilator were included. They were divided into two groups: Group I (n=54) was infants received surfactant, one time and Group II (n=30) was infants received surfactant, two times. We also categorized group I & II infants into two subgroups in each group: survival group and death group. We calculated OI at birth, 24 hr, 48 hr and 72 hr after birth. Results : Gestational age ($30.1{\pm}2.6wk\;vs\;28.4{\pm}3.4wk$) and birth weight ($1,478{\pm}442g\;vs\;1,199{\pm}495g$) were different between group I and group II. In preterm infants with RDS, the changes of OI by postnatal age were different between groups (P=0.001) and different with time change (P<0.001). In group I, the OI of survival subgroup showed decreasing by postnatal age compared with death subgroup, but was not significantly different between subgroups. In group II, the change of OI was not different between survival and death. Conclusion : These findings suggest that OI helps to predict the respiratory condition in preterm infants with RDS.
