Projection-based Performance Measurement Methodology of Session Initiation Protocol for the Next Generation Convergence Network (차세대 네트워크를 위한 프로젝션 기법 기반 SIP 성능 측정 방법론)

  • Performance of processing protocols is one most important goal in a network or systems constituting the network. Measurement of performance, thus, is an essential element to not only establish the network but also develop systems. A projection in vector mathematics is the transformation of points and lines in one plane onto another plane by connecting corresponding points on the two planes with parallel lines. This is a method, as an application of vector mathematics, which is widely used in engineering as well to consider elements dedicated to the measurement object. This paper proposes a sound methodology for measuring the performance of the SIP protocol, which is based on the projection. The SIP protocol is a typical standard protocol for call-processing in the internet telephony of Next Generation Convergence Network. Owing to use the projected protocol which excludes unnecessary operation paths, the methodology can be effective in implementation and resource utilization. This paper also presents a process based on the proposed methodology to measure the performance of a SIP proxy server.

The implementation of interface between industrial PC and PLC for multi-camera vision systems (멀티카메라 비전시스템을 위한 산업용 PC와 PLC간 제어 방법 개발)

  • One of the most common applications of machine vision is quality inspections in automated production. In this study, a welding inspection system that is controlled by a PC and a PLC equipped with a multi-camera setup was developed. The system was designed to measure the primary dimensions, such as the length and width of the welding areas. The TCP/IP protocols and multi-threading techniques were used for parallel control of the optical components and physical distribution. A coaxial light was used to maintain uniform lighting conditions and enhance the image quality of the weld areas. The core image processing system was established through a combination of various algorithms from the OpenCV library. The proposed vision inspection system was fully validated for an actual weld production line and was shown to satisfy the functional and performance requirements.

  • For the reduction of electric energy consumption and its efficient use at homes or buildings, a new work item proposal for new architecture and functional requirements of Energy Saving System (ESS) was proposed to IEC TC 100 and accepted as a new project, IEC PT 62654 in 2009. Recently, the final ballot for publication passed without negative votes and IEC TS 62654 was finally published in August 2012. For the verification of this standard, Prototype of ESS system composed of an ESS server, ESS clients, and portable ESS terminal were especially implemented in parallel with the standardization. Electric Power Control and Management (EPCM) protocol for the communication between ESS server and clients was also implemented, which supports self-configuration of ESS network, power consumption monitoring, remote power control, and additional functions for intelligent energy saving services.

Examining Categorical Transition and Query Reformulation Patterns in Image Search Process (이미지 검색 과정에 나타난 질의 전환 및 재구성 패턴에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate image search query reformulation patterns in relation to image attribute categories. A total of 592 sessions and 2,445 queries from the Excite Web search engine log data were analyzed by utilizing Batley's visual information types and two facets and seven sub-facets of query reformulation patterns. The results of this study are organized with two folds: query reformulation and categorical transition. As the most dominant categories of queries are specific and general/nameable, this tendency stays over various search stages. From the perspective of reformulation patterns, while the Parallel movement is the most dominant, there are slight differences depending on initial or preceding query categories. In examining categorical transitions, it was found that 60-80% of search queries were reformulated within the same categories of image attributes. These findings may be applied to practice and implementation of image retrieval systems in terms of assisting users' query term selection and effective thesauri development.

Design & Implementation of Flight Software Satellite Simulator based on Parallel Processing (병렬처리 기반의 위성 탑재소프트웨어 시뮬레이터 설계 및 개발)

  • The software-based satellite simulator has been developed from the start of the project to resolve the restriction and limitation of using hardware-based software development platform. It enables the development of flight software to be performed continuously since initial phase. The satellite simulator emulates the on-board computer, I/O modules, electronics and payloads, and it can be easily adapted and changed on hardware configuration change. It supports the debugging and test facilities for software engineers to develop flight software. Also the flight software can be loaded without any modification and can be executed as faster than real-time. This paper presents the architecture and design of software-based GEO satellite simulator which has hot-standby redundancy mechanism, and flight software development and test under this environment.

  • For VOD systems, it is important to provide QoS to more users under the limited resources. To analyze QoS issues in real environment, we implement clustered VOD server and embedded client system based on the Linux open source platform. The parallel processing of MPEG data, load balancing for nodes and VCR like functions are implemented in the server side. To provide more user friendly interface, the general TV is used for a VOD client's terminal and the embedded board is used supporting for VCR functions. In this paper, we measure the performance of the implemented VOD system under the various user requirement features and evaluate the sources of performance limitations. From these analyses, we propose the dynamic admission control method based on the availability memory and network bandwidth. The proposed method enhances the utilization of the system resource for the more QoS media streams.

  • Generally, a performance management consists of the iterative process of performance monitoring, performance analysis, and performance tuning. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of performance monitor and performance tuner which can be used on the top of SPAX, also known as TICOM IV. SPAX has a hierarchical structure. All nodes, each of which has a local memory, are connected to the interconnection network and constructed to form clusters. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new performance monitor reflecting the underlying hierarchical structure of SPAX, to implement performance monitoring more effectively. Implemented performance monitor can monitor the state of nodes, clusters, and total system of SPAX at realtime. And, implemented performance tuner can change the value of variables related to the performance of SPAX. System manager can perform an effective performance management by using the proposed performance management tools.

Interactive Visualization Technique for Adaptive Mesh Refinement Data Using Hierarchical Data Structures and Graphics Hardware (계층적 자료구조와 그래픽스 하드웨어를 이용한 적응적 메쉬 세분화 데이타의 대화식 가시화)

  • Adaptive mesh refinement(AMR) is one of the popular computational simulation techniques used in various scientific and engineering fields. Although AMR data is organized in a hierarchical multi-resolution data structure, traditional volume visualization algorithms such as ray-casting and splatting cannot handle the form without converting it to a sophisticated data structure. In this paper, we present a hierarchical multi-resolution splatting technique using k-d trees and octrees for AMR data that is suitable for implementation on the latest consumer PC graphics hardware. We describe a graphical user interface to set transfer function and viewing / rendering parameters interactively. Experimental results obtained on a general purpose PC equipped with an nVIDIA GeForce3 card are presented to demonstrate that the proposed techniques can interactively render AMR data(over 20 frames per second). Our scheme can easily be applied to parallel rendering of time-varying AMR data.

Implementation of Real-time Data Stream Processing for Predictive Maintenance of Offshore Plants (해양플랜트의 예지보전을 위한 실시간 데이터 스트림 처리 구현)

  • In recent years, Big Data has been a topic of great interest for the production and operation work of offshore plants as well as for enterprise resource planning. The ability to predict future equipment performance based on historical results can be useful to shuttling assets to more productive areas. Specifically, a centrifugal compressor is one of the major piece of equipment in offshore plants. This machinery is very dangerous because it can explode due to failure, so it is necessary to monitor its performance in real time. In this paper, we present stream data processing architecture that can be used to compute the performance of the centrifugal compressor. Our system consists of two major components: a virtual tag stream generator and a real-time data stream manager. In order to provide scalability for our system, we exploit a parallel programming approach to use multi-core CPUs to process the massive amount of stream data. In addition, we provide experimental evidence that demonstrates improvements in the stream data processing for the centrifugal compressor.

WDM/TDM-Based Channel Allocation Methodology in Optical Network-on-Chip (광학 네트워크-온-칩에서 WDM/TDM 기반 채널 할당 기법)

  • An optical network-on-chip(ONoC) architecture is emerging as a new paradigm for solving on-chip communication bottleneck. Recent studies on ONoC have been focusing on supporting the parallel transmission and avoiding path collisions using wavelength division multiplexing(WDM). However, since the maximum number of wavelengths, which a single waveguide can accommodate is limited by crosstalk and insertion loss. Therefore previous WDM studies based on incrementing the number of different wavelengths according to the number of nodes would be infeasible due to the implementation complexity. To solve such problems, we combined time division multiplexing(TDM) and wavelength-routed ONoC, along with an optimized channel allocation algorithm, which can minimize the number of extra wavelength channels and latency caused by combining TDM scheme.
