  • Smartphone have become the very important devices in our daily life and provide various roles on impairment and communications of developmental disabilities, acquired neurogenic disorders and autisms. Due to the growth of the technology, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) also meets needs and wants, including user customization, configurable layouts and registration of new core vocabulary for individual users. This paper describes the research conducted to design the smartphone-based AAC system. This AAC comprises of a form of communication types such as picture communication boards and sophisticated computer and mobile based devices that can speak in the phrases and sentences for their users. We deployed our AAC system on various sports situations using smartphone systems and also provided user customization method for AAC user's disability levels.

  • Visible light identification (VLID) is a user identification system for a door lock application using smartphone that adopts visible light communication (VLC) technology with the objective of high security, small form factor, and cost effectiveness. The user is verified by the identification application program of a smartphone via fingerprint recognition or password entry. If the authentication succeeds, the corresponding encoded visible light signals are transmitted by a light emitting diode (LED) camera flash. Then, only a small size and low cost photodiode as an outdoor interface converts the light signal to the digital data along with a comparator, and runs the authentication process, and releases the lock. VLID can utilize powerful state-of-the-art hardware and software of smartphones. Furthermore, the door lock system is allowed to be easily upgraded with advanced technologies without its modification and replacement. It can be upgraded by just update the software of smartphone application or replacing the smartphone with the latest one. Additionally, wireless connection between a smartphone and a smart home hub is established automatically via Bluetooth for updating the password and controlling the home devices. In this paper, we demonstrate a prototype VLID door lock system that is built up with LEGO blocks, a photodiode, a comparator circuit, Bluetooth module, and FPGA board.

  • This paper focuses on developing a smartphone-based mobile office system for a logistics company in Korea using HTML5. Mobile office is smart working environment of working out of a company office using mobile devices such as smartphones and portable computers which are connected to the company servers via WiFi or 3G/4G. Recently many companies are introducing mobile office information systems with the smartphone wave, but they are having difficulties in maintaining and updating their systems due to the transformative mobile application platform. Therefore, we need a platform-independent implementation tools for the mobile office application and HTML5 is one of the solution tools. In this paper, we develop mobile and web applications applicable to all kinds of mobile devices such as iOS, android and windows mobile etc using HTML5. The proposed mobile office system consists of groupware, marketing management, reporting module and transportation management system.

  • Although various home services are developed as increasing the number of home devices with wire and wireless connection, privacy infringement and private information leakage are occurred by unauthorized remote connection. It is almost caused by without of device authentication and protection of transmission data. In this paper, the devices' secret value are stored in a safe memory of a smartphone. A smartphone processes device authentication. In order to prevent leakage of a device's password, a shadow password multiplied a password by the private key is stored in a device. It is proposed mutual authentication between a smartphone and a device, and session key agreement for devices using recovered passwords on SRP. The proposed protocol is resistant to eavesdropping, a reply attack, impersonation attack.

  • Recently, smartphone has being most popular mobile device in mobile market, not around the world, but in domestic. In Korea, there are about 710 million people are using smartphone in 2010, and it is expected that about 1 billion people will use smartphone in next year. However, with exponential growth of smartphone, several security issues come to the fore. Because, the smartphone store various private information to provide user customized services, smartphone security can be regarded most critical issues than security of other devices. However, leak of awareness for security may cause many security accidents in present. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze security features of smartphone and propose a protection profile based on Common Criteria v3.1. Our work can be distributed for developer and user of smartphone to estimate security of smartphone.

  • The paper describes implementation of smartphone edition based on embedded Linux, which is composed of smartphone middleware and basic applications. Existing smartphone platforms entails loyalty expenses and has difficulties on customization due to the closed policy of their source codes. Although GPE - based on embedded Linux has solved the loyalty issues, other problems are remained unsolved. Since GPE has been designed for relatively large PDA-level devices, applications are generally inoperable under the condition of small LCD size and input methods without touch-screen; the condition is typical limitations of the smartphones. In the implemented smartphone edition of the paper no loyalty is required, because the smartphone edition is based on embedded Linux. It also supports keypad-only operating functionality such as moving between folders or running applications with operations. Besides, it provides more user-friendly environment to use the smartphone editionscreen interfaces and indicatorsto those of the regular cellular phones.

  • With the development of ICT(Information and Communication Technology), the number of smart devices is rapidly increasing. LBS(Location Based Service) applications that provide user's location based service are used in various fields. There is also a growing demand for indoor precision positioning technology to provide seamless services. In this paper, we propose an indoor positioning system that estimates the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm determines whether the received signal is LOS(Line-of-Sight) or NLOS(Non-Line of-Sight) in order to decrease multipath effect by the indoor environment. The proposed positioning algorithm is very simple and requires only the AP(Access Point) coordinates. In addition, it requires only two APs for estimating the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm is a practically applicable technology without any additional hardware and kernel modification in the smartphone. In the experiment results, the reliability of the positioning system was found to be within 0.83 m.

  • A smartphone is one of the best candidate devices on which context based services can be provided because a smartphone has considerably powerful computing ability and large memory capacity and it is a personal belonging. One of the most important factors of context is the moving status of the smartphone. For example, if the smartphone is not moving and the user is in an exhibition room then we can conclude that the user is watching an exhibit. This paper proposes an algorithm of determining the moving status of a smartphone for the first time. Our test results showed that the proposed algorithm is 100% correct.
