Plasma Transferred arc(PTA) hard facing process has been developed to obtain an overlay weld metal having excellent wear resistance. The effect of Ti, TiSi$_{2}$ and TiC powders addition on the surface of Aluminum alloy 5083 has been investigated with PTA process. This paper describes the result of test the performance of the overlay weld metal. The result can be summarized as follows 1. Intermetallic compound is formed on surface of base metal in Ti or TiSi$_{2}$ powder but the reaction with surface of base metal is little seen in TiC powder. 2. In formation of composite layer on aluminum alloy surface by plasma transferred arc welding process, high melting ceramics like TiC powder is excellent. 3. The multipass welding process is available for formation of high density of powder. But the more number of pass, the less effect of powder, it is considered, and limits of number of pass. 4. By increasing area fraction of TiC powder on Al alloy surface, in especially TiC powder the hardness increase more than 40% area fraction and 88% shows about Hv 700.
It is reported that a lot of sludge powder is produced during the process of manufacturing crushed fine aggregate in mines. However, there is a limitation on the its use that most of them are disposed and wasted, which cause environmental pollution. Therefore, in this paper, tests are carried out in order to recycle sludge powder as filler for cement mortar products. Kinds of aggregates and mix proportion of mortar are varied under various contents of sludge powder. According to test results, it is found that cement mortar products using sludge powder as substitution of fine aggregate about 10% have better qualities than those without sludge powder.
Stone powder sludge is a by-product of the manufacturing process of crushed sand. Most of it is dumped with soil in landfills, and the disposal of stone powder sludge causes a major environmental problem. This paper investigates the applicability of stone powder sludge in fly ashbased geopolymer. For this, stone powder sludge was used to replace fly ash at a replacement ratio of 50% and 100% by weight. The compressive strength of the samples was measured and scanning electron microscopy/ energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were performed. The test results indicated that the optimum level of the alkali activator ratio ($Na_2SiO_3$/NaOH) for fly ash-based geopolymer using stone powder sludge was 1.5. The strength development is closely related to the NaOH solution concentration. In addition, the compressive strength of the sample cured at $25^{\circ}C$ was significantly improved between 7 days and 28 days, even though the strength of the sample showed the lowest value at 7 days. Microscopy results indicated that a higher proportion of unreacted fly ash spheres remained in the sample with 5M NaOH, and some pores on the surface of the sample were observed.
To develope the utilities of the chestnut bur, which is wasted after harvesting chestnut in farmhouses, the feasibilities of adhesion(urea resin) extenders of the powder for plywood were examined. These experiments were implemented on experimental scale at Forestry Research Institute(Seoul) and on a plywood mill scale at Eugon Industrial Co LTD(Inchon) for more reliable data. In this paper, it was proved that the chestnut bur powder caused to rise the glue viscosity but the chaff powder to down reversely. The most effective mixing ratio were wheat flour 5kg, chaff powder: 5kg and chestnut bur powder. 5kg per 100kg of urea resin. At this condition, the viscosity were most appropriate (1,320 2,230 cps) for glue spreading operations, and the dry shear strengthes were most adequate(10.7-13.2kg/$cm^2$), wood failure ratio 82-88%). The chestnut bur powder, can be utilized for plywood adhesion extenders without any change of present process lines in plywwod mills.

This paper provides a new method for hybrid machining, particularly suited to micro fabrication applications such as micro point, micro line, micro structure, micro partition and so on. Developed micro fabrication process by electrical discharge machining (EDM) and electrical discharge deposition (EDD) with metal powder (Ti, Fe) has been studied to build TiC or FeC structure. Titanium powder or iron powder is supplied from working fluid (kerosene or de-ionized water with powder) and adheres on a workpiece by the heat and electric power caused by the electrical discharge. The use of a tool electrode is expected to keep powder concentration high in the gap between a workpiece and a tool electrode and to accrete powder material on the workpiece. The deposition is tried under various electrical conditions (workpiece. tool electrode, working fluid, discharge current, voltage and powder etc.). On the other hand. using electrical discharge machining (EDM) with the same tool electrode, it can be used as a removal process (cutting) by electro erosion at the same time. Therefore. this new method can do a hybrid machining to build up and down a structure with the workpiece.
PTFE is generally utilized as the form of composites with adding various fillers. The purpose of this paper lies on clarifying the friction and wear properties of the PTFE coating layer on steel. Especially, the effects of PTFE powder size for coating and surface roughness of the counter material on the properties are investigated. Sliding friction and wear tests are conducted at several sliding speeds by employing two types of PTFE coating layer using different powder sizes. One type of coating layer is composed of uniform fine powder, whereas the other type is made up of mixture powder of different sizes. As results, it is found that PTFE coating layer are effective to improve the wear resistance and to reduce the friction coefficient. It is clear that PTFE coating layers are abrasively removed by asperities of the counter material during sliding contact. However, PTFE coating layer with uniform fine powder shows somewhat better wear resistance than that with mixture powder of different sizes in low sliding speed region. It can be seen that the wear of the coating layer are drastically reduced because wear fragment from counter material are transferred to the coating layer. On the other hand, friction coefficient is shown not to be directly related with PTFE powder size in coating layer.

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the different NaOH pretreatment concentrations (0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00%) on enzymatic saccharification (with cellulase, and ${\beta}$-glucosidase) and fermentation (by Saccharomyces cerevisiaeKCCM 11304) for bioethanol production from rice straw and rice husk. Pretreatment of rice straw and rice husk were conducted under both natural and powder state to observe the potentiality of the biomass condition (natural and powder state). In this study, glucose and ethanol production were increased with the increase of NaOH percentage for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). For rice straw, the highest amount of glucose was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.81 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.63 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). Similarly, for rice husk, the highest amount of glucose was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.47 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.46 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). However, 0.75% NaOH pretreatment resulted in glucose yield near about 1.00% NaOH pretreatment for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). On the other hand, for rice straw, the highest amount of ethanol was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.36 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.31 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). In addition, for rice husk, the highest amount of ethanol was also obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.24 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.23 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). Moreover, 0.75% NaOH pretreatment resulted in ethanol yield near about 1.00% NaOH pretreatment for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). It was confirmed that higher amount of NaOH use is cost effective. Moreover, higher amount of glucose and ethanol was observed when powder was prepared after pretreatment. So 0.75% NaOH pretreatment in a natural state is supposed to be suitable for enzymatic saccharification and fermentation for bioethanol production.

This paper reports the relation of concrete setting characteristic and lateral pressure in mass concrete wall such as side wall of LNG underground storage tank. In order to estimate the lateral pressure, initial setting time of low heat cement concrete with type of mineral admixture was measured for three concrete mixtures(W/P=41.6%) containing limestone powder, fly ash, and slag powder. As a result, the lateral pressure of the concrete containing limestone powder was the smallest than those of other concretes as well as the initial setting time.

Recently warm compaction techniques are focused on and commercialization of one high-density compaction process in the P/M industry. Another development is a new SEGLESS using a developed lubricant that reduces ejection force at room temperature compaction. It is possible to achieve high-density by reducing lubricant amount. In this paper we confirmed that green density was $7.35g/cm^3$ at 686MPa of compaction pressure when the new SEGLESS was applied to relatively lower temperature warm compaction process, such as $80^{\circ}C$.
