  • Alumina powder is one of the widely used materials for industry, but there is a problem that the strength of the product changes depending on the powder packing state. To solve the above problem, previous studies have been conducted to increase the particle packing efficiency, but most of the existing studies analyzed the packing characteristics of millimeter-scale particles, so the physical properties are different from those of the micrometer scale. It is difficult to apply to the micrometer scale. In this paper, a three-step experiment was performed using a statistical method to increase packing using micrometer-scale alumina powder. First, a size combination with high packing and a mixing ratio were selected using the mixture test design method, and an appropriate excitation frequency was selected by analyzing the height change according to the frequency change in the vibration test apparatus. Finally, an alumina powder packing experiment was performed based on the experimental results mentioned above. As a result, it was confirmed that the maximum height variation was 42% higher than the maximum value of the 155 measurements performed when selecting the packing size combination. It is thought that this study will serve as basic data for processing and packing research using fine powder.

  • We developed nano-porous $TiO_2-SiO_2$ composites (commercial name : PTI, porous titania insulator) with low thermal conductivity as thermal insulating material as well as function of photocatalyst. The objectives of this paper are, firstly, to evaluate of the thermal conductivity of the PTI powder in the temperature range from -160 to $250^{\circ}C$, secondly to evaluate of thermal conductivities of insulation materials that is applied PTI powder. The structure of the PTI powder that has the pores size of 20-30 nm and the particle diameter of 2-10 nm. The PTI had a high surface area of $400m^2/g$ and a mean pore size of $45{\AA}$, which was fairly uniform. The thermal conductivity was measured by GHP(guarded hot plate) method and HFM(heat flux method). The PTI structure is a three-dimensional network nano-structures composed by a pearl-necklace that involved a precious stone in the center of the necklace. The thermal conductivities of PTI-PX powder by the GHP and HFM were 0.0366 W/m.K, 0.0314 W/m.K at $20^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is similar to values that are proportional to the square of the absolute temperature of the thermal conductivity of static air. The thermal conductivities of insulating sheets coated with PTI powder were similar results with that of the PTI powder.

  • In metal cutting at the tool-chip interface, friction generates considerable amount of heat. Thus, the knowledge of wear properties of cutting tool material in high temperature has been as one of important factors in need of clarification. The authors presented the wear properties of 5%Co-5%V-1%Nb high speed steel, fabricated by powder metallurgy, in room temperature in previous articles. The objective of this paper is to clarify the effects of temperature on its wear properties. Wear tests in sliding conditions under various temperatures have been conducted using the pin-on-disc type wear test machine. The results indicate that the wear properties of 5%Co-5%V-1%Nb high speed steel in high temperature as well as in room temperature are excellent. It may be deduced that the oxide layer formed on worn surface at high temperature is stable enough to prevent wear due to the high temperature strength of its matrix.

  • Laser cladding is a technique for forming beads by melt-sintering with a laser while directly feeding metal powder onto the base material through nozzles. This technique, which is applied in laser surface treatment technology, is useful for repairing broken or worn parts by allowing selective formation of the surface layer of the base metal material. In this paper, laser cladding process was performed on STS316L powder using high power continuous wave laser with IR wavelength and the cladding characteristics according to process conditions were experimentally analyzed.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been the subject of intensive studies for applications in the fields of nano technologies in recent years due to their superior mechanical, electric, optical and electronic properties. Because of their exceptionally small diameters (${\appros}\;several\;nm$) as well as their high Young's modulus (${\appros}1\;TPa$), tensile strength (${\appros}\;200\;GPa$) and high elongation (10-30%) in addition to a high chemical stability, CNTs are attractive reinforcement materials for light weight and high strength metal matrix composites. Although extensive researches have been performed on the electrical, mechanical and functional properties of CNTs, there are not many successful results on the mechanical properties of CNT dispersed nanocomposites. In this paper, we applied equal channel angular pressing for consolidation of CNT/Cu powder mixtures. We also investigated the hardness and microstructures of CNT/Cu nanocomposites used experimental for metal matrix composites.

  • This paper investigates the properties of high fluidity concrete incorporating lime stone powder and fly ash. Lime stone powder(LSP) and fly ash(FA) contents are varied with. According to test results, as LSP and FA contents increase, fluidity, air content and placeability shows a declining tendency. For the temperature history, both LSP and FA have favorable effects on reducing hydration heat, moreover, LSP reduces hydration heat more than FA. LSP shows undesirable strength loss as its content increases. FA also decreases the strength at early age, but it enhances later age strength. Accordingly LSP is expected to improve the quality at fresh concrete and reduce hydration heat, while it causes strength loss.

  • Medical technologies are gaining in importance because of scientific and technical progress in medicine and the increasing average lifetime of people. This has opened up a huge market for medical devices, where complex-shaped metallic parts made from biocompatible materials are in great demand. Today many of these components are already being manufactured by powder metallurgy technologies. This includes mass production of standard products and also customized components. In this paper some aspects related to metal injection molding of Ti and its alloys as well as modifications of microstructure and surface finish were discussed. The process chain of additive manufacturing (AM) was described and the current state of the art of AM processes like Selective Laser Melting and electron beam melting for medical applications was presented.

  • This article presents the result of laboratory study conducted on expansive soil specimens treated with lignin, rice husk powder (RHP) and rice husk ash (RHA). The amount of lignin produced from paper industry and RHP were varied from 0 to 20% and RHA from 0 to 10% by weight. The treated specimens were subjected to unconfined compressive strength (UCS),swelling test and Atterberg limit tests. The effect of additives on UCS and atterberg limit test results were reported. It was observed that the additives and curing duration had a significant effect on the strength value of treated specimens. Generally (except the sample treated with 20% RHP for 3-day) with increasing additive and curing duration the UCS value increases. A RHP content of 15% was found to be the optimum with regard to 3-day cure UCS.

  • Tube Process (TP) is a process to produce permanent magnets using a deformable tube for densification of magnet powder. This process claims that it can accomplish both densification and anisotropication in one step forming. This process is distinguished from other processes since it uses a deformable copper tube for densification of magnet powder. In this paper, simulation has been carried out for tile Tube Process in a closed die considering the compressibility of powdered material, arbitrary curved shape and deformable body contact between Nd-Fe-B magnet powder and a copper tube. Results show that the finite element analysis of the Tube Process plays an important role in the stage of preform design.
