  • This paper considers the technology spillover effects on industries by analyzing patents. Registered patents in the United States from Korea in 1990 and 1995 are compared by quantity of registrations as well as patent analysis indices, namely, cites per patent, technology cycle time and science linkage. Several regression models between these indices as predictor variables and the value added of an industry as a dependent variable were investigated. The results show that the value added of an industry positively correlates to the number of patent registrations and cites per patent.

  • Objectives : This paper aims to examine the overall form of the 『Yosandangsinjipeuibangkeumnangjibo』 (『Yosandang』). Methods : The table of contents, organization of the body, citations in the 『Yosandang』 were examined, then compared to the organization of 『Donguibogam』 (『Bogam』) and 『Jejungsinpyeon』 (『Jejung』). Results & Conclusions : Based on the organization of the body, it could be determined that Byun Gwangwon referenced 『Bogam』 and 『Jejung』. However, it was found that 『Yosandang』 strived to be more faithful to the 『Bogam』 than the 『Jejung』 while it also tried to minimize the complicatedness of 『Bogam』. Its organization was unique in that it created new chapters and added contents. Also, through examination of the citations, it could be assumed that those in the 『Yosandang』 were secondary citations of the 『Bogam』 and 『Jejung』. Despite these features, it also cited the 『Zhengzhizhunsheng』 and showed efforts to include new knowledge with citation labels such as '新增[newly added]' '自述[original writing]' and 'Yosan(樂山)'. Discussion : The findings of the comparison and examination process of the organization and citations of the book revealed that the uniqueness of the organization of 『Yosandang』 is most obvious in the pediatrics chapter. This indicates that the author's intention was to deal with pediatric diseases professionally.

  • One of the characteristics of academic writing is the inclusion of citations and references. As the development of reference styles used for international scholarly communication has mostly been led by Western academic societies, the reference styles developed in Western nations do not reflect the characteristics of Korean names. As a result, it is hard to distinguish Korean authors through citations based on Western reference styles, which in turn decreases the retrieval efficiency of relevant authors and ultimately the efficiency of scholarly communication. This paper intends to analyze author name disambiguation of Korean authors indicated according to Western reference styles. It aims to suggest the necessity for enhancing name disambiguation of Korean authors and revision of reference styles. Its ultimate goal is to increase the efficiency of scholarly communication through the improvement of name disambiguation of Korean authors. For this purpose, this study collected and analyzed name data of Korean researchers and compared name disambiguation of authors by reference style. Based on research results, this study confirmed a necessity for revising reference styles to improve name disambiguation of authors and suggested a necessity for research into the improvement of plans for revision.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show how conceptual data modeling can enhance current information retrieval (IR) systems. The conceptual database design provides for: 1) data mining capability to discover new knowledge based on the relationships between entities, and 2) integrating current separate databases into one IR system (e.g., integrating ISI Citation, a thesaurus, and bibliographic databases into one retrieval system) . Further, as new user requirements are unfolded, modifications of IR systems based on conceptual data modeling will be much easier to make than they were in the current IR systems because conceptual modeling facilitates flexible modifications. The enhanced Entity-Relationship (ER) model was employed in this study to develop conceptual schemas of IR data.

  • In this paper, three types of operational and industrial absorbers used at research reactors, including Ag-In-Cd alloy, $B_4C$, and Hf are selected for sensitivity analyses. Their integral effects on the main neutronic core parameters important to safety issues are investigated. These parameters are core excess reactivity, shutdown margin, total reactivity worth of control rods, thermal neutron flux, power density distribution, and Power Peaking Factor (PPF). The IAEA 10 MW benchmark core is selected as the case study to verify calculations. A two-dimensional, three-group diffusion model is selected for core calculations. The well-known WIMS-D4 and CITATION reactor codes are used to carry out these calculations. It is found that the largest shutdown margin is gained using the $B_4C$; also the lowest PPF is gained using the Ag-In-Cd alloy. The maximum point power densities belong to the inside fuel regions surrounding the central flux trap (irradiation position), surrounded by control fuel elements, and the peripheral fuel elements beside the graphite reflectors. The greatest and least fluctuation of the point power densities are gained by using $B_4C$ and Ag-In-Cd alloy, respectively.

  • Technology used by human beings has developed drastically over the years. Although people enjoy affluent lives as a result of this development, the depletion of resources has brought about a variety of environmental problems such as emission of fine dust, treatment of waste water, and global warming. Although studies on environmental pollution are being conducted continuously, there are a limited number of studies that analyze research trends from quantitative and qualitative perspectives. In order to examine the current research landscape, we employed Scopus to combine research interest in environmental science with bibliographic analysis. Among 74,089 papers published in 57 journals of environmental science, 3,212 papers were published by Korean authors and citations per publications and Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) of those papers were 7.3 and 1.0, respectively. By assessing the bibliometric indicators in the field of environmental science, this study provides insight into research trends and related data to aid researchers in developing research strategies.

  • Every researcher wants their research to gain more recognition, and this desire is achieved by publishing their article in a journal with higher impact. It is very important to get researchers interested in the Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society (JKNS). Therefore, the first goal was to promote the publication of papers in our journal. To do this, a table of contents was sent out, and the citation ranking was announced every 2 months. Several efforts have been made to publish good papers. Foreign speakers, who were invited to a conference hosted by the Korean Neurosurgical Society were contacted and politely requested to write a paper addressing their recent research. Domestic and international researchers highly renowned in their fields were also contacted to submit their novel works to our journal. The journal impact factor of our journal has continued to rise for the last 3 years and reached 1.376 in 2019. It can be said that the JKNS is now competitive with other international neurosurgery journals. These achievements were not due to the efforts of the editorial boards alone. This was because our society members have submitted very good papers, and because many of our members have cited the papers published in our journal. We believe that this will continue in the future. The next step of evolution of the JKNS has begun, and this is the beginning of another great development.

  • This excerpt delineates a quantitative measure of relationship between a research title and its respective abstract extracted from different journal articles documented through a Korean Citation Index (KCI) database published through various journals. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based similarity metric that does not assume normality on dataset, realizes the imbalanced dataset problem, and zero-variance problem that affects most of the rule-based algorithms. The advantage of using this algorithm is that, it eliminates the limitations experienced by Pearson correlation coefficient (r) and additionally, it solves imbalanced dataset problem. A total of 107 journal articles collected from the database were used to develop a corpus with authors, year of publication, title, and an abstract per each. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm achieved high correlation coefficient values compared to others which are cosine similarity, euclidean, and pearson correlation coefficients by scoring a maximum correlation of 1, whereas others had obtained non-a-number value to some experiments. With these results, we found that an effective title must have high correlation coefficient with the respective abstract.
