  • In the paper, we have demonstrated an azobenzene-coated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) for monitoring ultraviolet light (UV) intensity in remote measurement. The elasticity of the coated azobenzene polymer is changed by the UV light, which induces a center wavelength change corresponding to the change of the FBG's grating period. The wavelength shift resulting from both UV light and other light with the wavelength out of the UV range was about 0.18 nm. In order to improve the accuracy of the measurement, the center wavelength shift caused by radiant heat of the light source was sufficiently removed by using a thermal filter. The amount of the center wavelength shift was consequently reduced to 0.06 nm, compared to the result without the thermal filter. Also, the FBGs coated by using azobenzene polymer were produced by two different methods; thermal casting and UV curing. Considering temperature dependence, UV curing is more suitable than thermal casting in UV sensor application of the azobenzene-coated FBG. In addition, we have confirmed the wavelength dependence of the optical sensor by means of four different band pass filters. Thus, we found out that the center wavelength shift per unit intensity is 0.029 [arb. unit] as a maximum value at 370 nm wavelength region and that the absorption spectrum of the azobenzene polymer was very consistent with the wavelength dependence of the azobenzene-coated FBG.

  • The present paper reports the effect of precursor alumina particle size on pore structure and single gas permeation properties of tubular ${\alpha}$-alumina supports, prepared by a combined process of slip casting and sintering. Pore diameter of as-prepared ${\alpha}$-alumina support was highly dependent on precursor ${\alpha}$-alumina particle size. Although, increase in the precursor particle size increases the pore diameter, but the porosity of ${\alpha}$-alumina support mainly control by sintering temperature. Sintering studies reveal that as sintering temperature increased porosity of support decreased. Single gas permeance results indicate that permence is proportional to the square of pore diameter and linearly to porosity. These dependencies revealed that gas permeation trough as-prepared ${\alpha}$-alumina support was governed by viscous flow mechanism. The present announces that precursor ${\alpha}$-alumina particle size and sintering temperature are key parameters to control gas permeantion properties of ${\alpha}$-alumina supports.

  • This paper intends to analyze the movement characteristics of the suspended solid(SS) generated in a riprap work which is the most widespread process in harbor construction. The generation and movement behaviors of SS are investigated when 1) basic ripraps (0.001~0.03㎥) are cast for breakwater construction, 2) ripraps are loaded on carrier for riprap casting in the sea-wall construction of dredged material pocket, and 3) ripraps for inner filling are cast. The result of the present study shows that the SS generation is considerable when basic ripraps are cast for breakwater construction and the SS diffusion reaches up to 500m in high tide period. When ripraps are loaded on carrier, the SS is generated by the ripraps running down into sea from carrier, thereby showing a high concentration of SS in the vicinity of carrier. In the surface layer, SS distribution is confined in the vicinity of the carrier due to the prompt sinking of the SS. However the SS in the bottom layer is diffused approximately up to loom and then the SS concentration reaches to the background one. In the riprap (less than 0.03㎥) casting for inner filling using pork crane, SS is diffused approximately up to 300m in the surface layer and more than 300m in the bottom layer. It is quite interesting that the movement of the SS generated in harbor construction is mainly controlled by wind drift in the surface layer and tidal current in the bottom layer, and also the diffusion range of SS in the bottom layer is much larger than that in the surface layer.

  • This paper evaluates the effect of hot weather conditions on the fresh concrete characteristics of 80-MPa high-strength concrete. The slump flow, packing ability, setting time, hydration heat, and compressive strength were evaluated under exterior temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, and $40^{\circ}C$. The slump flow, arrival speed of 500 mm, and their changes with the elapsed time were found to bring the occurrence of rapid slump loss forward by about 30 minutes when increasing the temperature by $10^{\circ}C$ from $20^{\circ}C$. The initial and final setting times of the concrete at $20^{\circ}C$ were 7 hours and 12 hours, which were reduced by 1 hour and 3 hours at $30^{\circ}C$ and by 2 hours and 5 hours at $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. The hydration heat characteristics at $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ were similar in terms of the highest temperature of the concrete casting depth and the time when the maximum temperature occurred. However, at $40^{\circ}C$, the maximum temperature occurred about 4 hours earlier, and the highest temperature per the concrete casting depth increased by about $12^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is concluded that the characteristics can vary according to the exterior temperature. Thus, quality assurance should consider workability, temperature cracks due to hydration heat, the properties of strength development, and other characteristics.

  • This paper described on a basic study to organize fishing vessel control system in order to control efficiently fishing vessel in Korean offshore. It was digitalized ARPA image on the fishing processing of a fleet of purse seiner in conducting fishing operation at Cheju offshore in Korea as a digital camera and then simulated by used VTMS. Futhermore, it was investigated on the application of FVTMS which can control efficiently fishing vessels in fishing ground. The results obtained were as follows ; (1) It was taken 16 minutes and 35 minutes to casting and hauling net in fishing processing respectively. The length of rope pulled by scout boat was 200m, tactical diameter in casting net was 340.8m, turning speed was 6kts as well. (2) The processing of casting and hauling net was moved to SW, NE as results of simulation when the current direction and speed set into NE, 2kts and SW, 2kts respectively. Such as these results suggest that can predict to control the fishing vessel previously with information of fishing ground, fishery and ship's maneuvering, etc. (3) The control range of VTMS radar used in simulation was about 16 miles. Although converting from a radar of the control vessel to another one, it was continuously acquired for the vector and the target data. The optimum control position could be determined by measuring and analyzing to distance and direction between the control vessel and the fleet of fishing vessel. (4) The FVTMS(fishing vessel traffic management services) model was suggested that fishing vessels received fishing conditions and safety navigation information can operate safely and efficiently.

  • For realistic rendering volume to calculate the light effects as well as the shade is essential. In order to produce the high quality of the resulting image, it is necessary to represent a global illumination, and it should be considered an indirect effect of the direct impact and scattering of light. It requires a lot of resources in order to perform this operation and, in particular, is very expensive when large amounts of data to be rendered as a volume data is consumed. In this paper, we generate a scatterer template according to the physical laws for each material. Considering that each object having material property stores photons of the template based on the Lambert illumination model. When the volume rendering in this paper, using the photon is stored in the template, based on the voxel to be sampled within the examination volume occluded, and it represents the global illumination of the scattering. Because the materials produced by the template requires a less resource only if comprised of a complex material, a simple operation can be expressed within the scattering volume at a low cost through.

  • In this paper, a trade-off design and fabrication of IPMC(Ionic Polymer Metal Composites) as an actuator for a flapping device have been described. Experiments for the internal solvent loss of IPMCs have been conducted for various combinations of cation and solvent in order to find out the best combination of cation and solvent for minimal solvent loss and higher actuation force. From the experiments, it was found that IPMCs with heavy water as their solvent could operate longer. Relations between length/thickness and tip force of IPMCs were also quantitatively identified for the actuator design from the tip force measurement of 200, 400, 640, and $800{\mu}m$ thick IPMCs. All IPMCs thicker than $200{\mu}m$ were processed by casting $Nafion^{TM}$ solution. The shorter and thicker IPMCs tended to generate higher actuation force but lower actuation displacement. To improve surface conductivity and to minimize solvent evaporation due to electrically heated electrodes, gold was sputtered on both surfaces of the cast IPMCs by the Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD) process. For amplification of a short IPMC's small actuation displacement to a large flapping motion, a rack-and-pinion type hinge was used in the flapping device. An insect wing was attached to the IPMC flapping mechanism for its flapping test. In this test, the wing flapping device using the $800{\mu}m$ thick IPMC. could create around $10^{\circ}{\sim}85^{\circ}$ flapping angles and $0.5{\sim}15Hz$ flapping frequencies by applying $3{\sim|}4V$.

  • A new kind of partially precast or prefabricated castellated steel reinforced concrete beam, which is abbreviated here as CPSRC beam, was presented and introduced in this paper. This kind of CPSRC beam is composed of a precast outer-part and a cast-in-place inner-part. The precast outer-part is composed of an encased castellated steel shape, reinforcement bars and high performance concrete. The cast-in-place inner-part is made of common strength concrete, and is casted with the floor slabs simultaneously. In order to investigate the shear performance of the CPSRC beam, experiments of six CPSRC T-beam specimens, together with experiments of one cast-in-place SRC control T-beam specimen were conducted. All the specimens were subjected to sagging bending moment (or positive moment). In the tests, the influence of casting different strength of concrete in the cross section on the shear performance of the PPSRC beam was firstly emphasized, and the effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio on that were also especially taken into account too. During the tests, the shear force-deflection curves were recorded, while the strains of concrete, the steel shapes as well as the reinforcement stirrups at the shear zone of the specimens were also measured, and the crack propagation pattern together with the failure pattern was as well observed in detail. Based on the test results, the shear failure mechanism was clearly revealed, and the effect of the concrete strength and shear span-to-depth ratios were investigated. The shear capacity of such kind of CPSRC was furthermore discussed, and the influences of the holes on the steel shape on the shear performance were particularly analyzed.

  • This paper describes a study on the effects of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}$ addition on the microstructure, porosity, and mechanical properties namely hardness and tensile properties of AA332 composite. Each composite respectively contains 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% reinforcement particles developed by a stir-casting. The molten composite was stirred at 600 rpm and melted at $900^{\circ}C{\pm}5^{\circ}C$. The $Mg_2Si$ particles were wrapped in an aluminum foil to keep them from burning when melting. The findings revealed that the microstructure of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}/AA332$ consists of ${\alpha}$-Al, binary eutectic ($Al+Mg_2Si$), $Mg_2Si$ particles, and intermetallic compound. The intermetallic compound was identified as Fe-rich and Cu-rich, formed as polygonal or blocky, Chinese script, needle-like, and polyhendrons or "skeleton like". The porosity of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}/AA332$ composite increased from 8-10% and the density decreased from 9-12% from as-cast. Mechanical properties such as hardness increased for over 42% from as-cast and the highest UTS, elongation, and maximum Q.I were achieved in the sample of 10% $Mg_2Si$. The study concludes that combined with AA332, the amount of 10 wt% of$Mg_2Si$ is a suitable reinforcement quantity with the combination ofAA332.

  • Linear interpolation is a basic sampling method for volume visualization. This method generates good images but sometimes it is inferior to our high expectation because it is encouraged to produce high quality images in the medical applications. In this paper, B spline based tri-cubic interpolation is used for the re-sampling step. The conventional B spline is an approximation method which does not cross control points so that we moved the control points and the curve crosses the original control points. In the rendering step, the empty space leaping is applicable to increase rendering speed. We have to calculate the maximum and minimum values for each block to detect empty space. The convex hull property of B spline enables the values of control points to be used as the maximum and minimum values. As a result, tri-cubic interpolated volume rendering is possible in interactive speed.
