TEST OF A LOW COST VEHICLE-BORNE 360 DEGREE PANORAMA IMAGE SYSTEM

  • Recently many areas require wide field of view images. Such as surveillance, virtual reality, navigation and 3D scene reconstruction. Conventional camera systems have a limited filed of view and provide partial information about the scene. however, omni directional vision system can overcome these disadvantages. Acquiring 360 degree panorama images requires expensive omni camera lens. In this study, 360 degree panorama image was tested using a low cost optical reflector which captures 360 degree panoramic views with single shot. This 360 degree panorama image system can be used with detailed positional information from GPS/INS. Through this study result, we show 360 degree panorama image is very effective tool for mobile monitoring system.

중첩 영역 추정을 통한 파노라마 영상 생성 (Overlap Estimation for Panoramic Image Generation)

  • 파노라마 영상은 카메라 시야각의 제한을 극복할 수 있으므로 로봇 비전, 스테레오 카메라, 보안 감시 등의 분야에서 효율적으로 연구되고 있다. 파노라마 영상은 사람의 시야각 이상의 넓은 화각을 가진 영상을 구현할 수 있으며 시야각의 현장감을 중심으로 실제로 현장에 있는 듯한 실감 공간을 제공하는 기술이다. 영상에서 기하학적 변화에 강인한 특징점 및 대응점을 검출하고 호모그래피 행렬을 추정하는데 있어서 모든 대응점을 사용하면 연산량이 많아지고 정확한 호모그래피 행렬을 추정하기 어렵다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 전처리 과정에서 입력 영상들의 히스토그램을 비교 분석하여 유사도가 높은 중첩되는 영역을 추정하며 특징점을 검출하기 위해 SURF 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 또한 영상을 입력하는 순서를 해결하여 순서에 제약 없이 영상을 입력하여 파노라마를 생성할 수 있도록 하였다.

측두하악관절의 panoramic double TMJ 방사선사진상에서 하악과두와 인접구조의 관계 (Relationship between the condyle and adjacent structures in double temporomandibular joint view using panorama)

  • Purpose: To investigate the ability of double TMJ view by multifunctional panorama to view the bony components and the space of the temporomandibular joint. Materials and Methods: Ten dry skulls fitted with resin shims over the articular surface of the condyle were used to reproduce the temporomandibular joint space. Fine metal wires were attached to the three portions of contours of the condylar head and the articular eminence. With 10 dry skulls and 20 cases having TMJ dysfunction, double TMJ views by multifunctional panorama (Planmeca 2002 Proline CC) and transcranial views were taken, analyzed from the anatomical view point, and compared statistically in view of the widths of the posterior joint space and the condylar head. Results: In double TMJ view, the supero-anterior part of the condyle represented the lateral 1/3, the most superior part represented center portion, and the posterior part medial l/3 of the condyle. In maximum mouth opening, no other structures were superimposed with the condyle in double TMJ view. In double TMJ view, petrous bone was moderately superimposed with the superior part of the condyle and the posterior increment of angle exposure made wider the images of the articular eminence and the condyle. The tendency of reduction in the posterior joint space appeared in the side of TMJ dysfunction compared with the normal side. The posterior joint spaces in double TMJ view were statistically wider (p<0.05) than those in transcranial view. The correlation coefficient was 0.5179 between the widths of the posterior joint spaces in two radiographic views. Conclusions: Double TMJ view can be substituted for transcranial view in evaluating the TMJ dysfunction.

도시환경과 건물 재생을 위한 파노라마 이미지 공간구성 방법 (A Study on the Panoramic Perception for Restoring of Urban Environment and Architecture)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between panoramic perception and space organization for restoration of urban environment and architecture. Panorama is a collective visual catalogue composed by series of perspective images. It is a product from continuous movements of viewer by defamilarizing real image and structuring order between city and building. Through understanding the panoramic image, the viewer is able to achieve the total image of the city. For example, achieving visual perception of the city by employing the panoramic view from different historical backgrounds and cultures, Berlin developed its urban characteristic by rebuilding panoramic view as an aesthetic device. First, this paper mention theory of panorama as an aesthetic device for shaping the city from the building. Second, this paper analyze the relationships between characteristics of panorama and historical contexts for why those panoramic views are valuable by mentioning the Altes Museum, the Berlin National Gallery, Museum of Modern Literature, and Folkwang Museum of panoramic view. In conclusion, this paper argues that visual perception such as panoramic view is the valuable device for organizing the image of the city's own identity. Constructing vision of each city influences not only shaping the city but also mapping the mental views of the building. Also, historical conditions and open spaces are one of the inherent elements combined with panoramic view for establishing urban identity. In search for good place making, it is important to understand the role of the historical context and fabric plan in shaping how a resident sees - literally, sees- their city with buildings. Berlin serve as excellent counter example in how the valuable place making panoramic mental views of urbanities take shape.

산간지역과 주거지에 입지하는 르 코르비지에 건축의 의도된 경관특징 연구 (A Study on Designed Landscape Characteristics of Le Corbuiser's Architecture in Mountain and Residential Area)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand what Le Corbuiser has intended on a panoramic landscape view through his modern architectural design. This paper is willing to improve that he considered both natural and local landscape scenery, when he designed architecture with drawing images. He designed various ways to see outside scenery and community culture through ribbon windows, piloti, architectural promenade, picture frame, and rooftop garden as the angle of view inside the building, 'designed landscape panorama' from his architecture. Therefore the contents of the study include the analysis of the local landscapes shown through his architecture by photograph, drawing of a real scenery, and his sketches with biology to find what he has intended. The following conclusions have three points. First, Le Corbuiser has a basic idea to bear a natural and local scenery from his architecture through five points of new architecture. Second, pilotis, ribbon windows, and roof garden with picture frame and architectural promenade are pathways of his architecture to see 'designed landscape panorama'. Third, it comes from his early architecture like Villa Savoye in 1920s to Couvent de Sainte Marie de la Tourette in 1950s, but Ronchamp church converts his idea on previous thoughts.

파노라마 동영상 스트리밍을 위한 적응적 스트립 압축 기법 (Adaptive Strip Compression for Panorama Video Streaming)

  • 일반적인 동영상 스트리밍 시스템은 좁은 시각영역을 갖는 동영상을 원격의 사용자에게 제공한다. 서버 측에 팬/틸트(pan/tilt) 카메라를 부착한 시스템은 클라이언트가 카메라의 방향을 조작할 수 있도록 함으로써 보다 넓은 시각영역을 제공할 수 있다. 하지만, 하드웨어 팬/틸트 카메라를 이용한 스트리밍 시스템은 다수의 사용자가 동시에 접속할 경우, 모든 사용자에게 각자가 원하는 시점에서의 영상을 제공할 수 없으며, 카메라 이동에 의한 지연이 발생한다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 소프트웨어 팬/틸트 카메라를 구현하였으며, 이를 이용한 새로운 파노라마 동영상 스트리밍 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 넓은 시각영역을 가지는 파노라마 영상을 획득한 후, 각 사용자에게 원하는 부분영상을 제공함으로써 다수의 사용자에게 자유로운 시점 이동을 제공해 준다. 이때, 방대한 양의 파노라마 동영상을 원격의 사용자에게 전송하기 위해서는 효율적인 압축 방법이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 전체 영상을 좁은 스트립 영상들로 분할하고, 클라이언트 측에서 원하는 시각영역에 해당하는 스트립 영상들만을 독립적으로 압축하는 적응성 스트립 압축 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 적응성 스트립 압축 기법을 사용하여 파노라마 동영상을 압축, 전송함으로써 사용자의 시각영역 변화 및 새로운 사용자의 접속에 빠르게 대응할 수 있으며 클라이언트 전송 시 데이터 양을 효과적으로 감소시킬 수 있다.

An Efficient Hardware Architecture of Coordinate Transformation for Panorama Unrolling of Catadioptric Omnidirectional Images

  • In this paper, we present an efficient hardware architecture of unrolling image mapper of catadioptric omnidirectional imaging systems. The catadioptric omnidirectional imaging systems generate images of 360 degrees of view and need to be transformed into panorama images in rectangular coordinate. In most application, it has to perform the panorama unrolling in real-time and at low-cost, especially for high-resolution images. The proposed hardware architecture adopts a software/hardware cooperative structure and employs several optimization schemes using look-up-table(LUT) of coordinate conversion. To avoid the on-line division operation caused by the coordinate transformation algorithm, the proposed architecture has the LUT which has pre-computed division factors. And then, the amount of memory used by the LUT is reduced to 1/4 by using symmetrical characteristic compared with the conventional architecture. Experimental results show that the proposed hardware architecture achieves an effective real-time performance and lower implementation cost, and it can be applied to other kinds of catadioptric omnidirectional imaging systems.

어안 렌즈를 이용한 전방향 감시 및 움직임 검출 (Omni-directional Surveillance and Motion Detection using a Fish-Eye Lens)

  • 일반적인 카메라의 시야는 사람에 비하여 매우 좁기 때문에 큰 물체를 한 화면으로 얻기 힘들며, 그 움직임도 넓게 감시하기에 어려움 점이 많다. 이에 본 논문에서는 어안 렌즈(Fish-Eye Lens)를 사용하여 넓은 시야의 영상을 획득하고 전방향 감시를 위한 투시(perspective) 영상과 파노라마(panorama) 영상을 복원하는 방법을 제시한다. 영상 변환 과정에서 어안 렌즈의 특성으로 인한 해상도 차이를 보완하기 위하여 여러 가지 영상 보간법을 적용하고 결과를 비교하였다. 그리고 ME(Moving Edge) 방법으로 움직임을 검출하여 다중 물체를 추적할 수 있도록 하였다.

파노라마촬영장치의 선형단층상에 의한 하악골의 협설단면 평가 (An assessment on cross-sectional view of the mandible by linear tomogram of panorama)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the precision of measurements of distances and angle in the cross-sectional views of linear tomogram of panorama and to assess the technique for visualizing the mandibular canal. Methods: Ten dry mandibles were radiographically examined with 3 continuous cross-sectional views of linear tomogram of panorama and 4 continuous computed tomograms. The distance between the superior border of canal and alveolar crest and the bucco-lingual width of alveolar bone at the level of the superior border of canal and the angle between the two lines above were measured. Measurements were performed by radiologist and implantologist group and compared with measurements on computed radiograms of the same areas. Results: The measurements differences for the distance of alveolar bone height between in panorama and in CT showed 0.9 mm±0.6 mm by radiologists and 1.3mm±0.8mm by implantologists. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups' measurements. The differences in measurements for the distance of alveolar bone width between in panorama and in CT showed 0.5mm±0.8mm by radiologists and 2.5mm±1.4 mm by implantologists. There was significant difference (P<0.05) between two groups' measurements. The average bucco-lingual inclination of alveolar bone above mandibular canal was average 95.8° in CT. The difference of measurements between two groups was average 1±0.9°. Three cross-sectional views of panorama could show that the mandibular canal crosses antero-lingually and slopes inferiorly from the posterior segment of the mandible. Conclusions: The measurements in the linear tomogram of panorama by radiologists gave the accurate values of the distances and the angle compared with the values in computed tomograms.

가상환경을 위한 파노라마 생성에 관한 연구 (Panoramic Image Generation for the Virtual Environment)

  • 본 논문에서는 환경 탐색을 위한 영상 기반 환경을 자동으로 생성하기 위한 새로운 모자이크 기법을 제안 한다. 제안된 방법은 영상의 투영 변환 행렬을 이용하여 한 영상 위에 다른 영상을 합성 한다. 특징 모델을 기반한 정합을 이용하여 영상을 모자이크를 구현하고 구맵핑을 통해 시각에 따라 변형되어 몰입감을 주는 영상 기반 환경을 생성한다, 특히, 취득한 영상간의 카메라 회전 성분에 강건한 기준 특징 벡터 필터링 방법을 제안하며 실험을 통해 그 유용성을 검증한다.
