Traditional live video streaming systems support the limited field of view (FOV) of image to the remote users. A server system based on the pan/tilt camera provides a user with wide view by changing the view direction of the camera mechanically. But, when many clients try to access to the server, this system can not offer their own view to every user simultaneously, and moreover it has the delay by camera motion. In order to offer wide views to several users, we propose new streaming system using the panorama image that has wide view. Our system is a kind of implementation of software pan/tilt camera. The server acquires panorama video and sends a part of the video to clients. Then, each client can control their own view. We need the effective way to reduce the average transmission data size and server burden to the compression because generally the full size of panorama video is too big to be served by the real-time streaming. To solve this problem, we propose an strip-based video compression and adaptive transmission of the compressed multiple strip videos. Experimental results show that our system can be adapted quickly to the change of view and the number of clients. Furthermore, proposed method effectively reduce the transmission data.
Immersive media videos, such as panorama and 360-degree videos, must provide a sense of realism as if the user visited the space in the video, so they should be able to represent the reality of the real world. However, in panorama and 360-degree videos, objects appear to overlap or disappear due to parallax between cameras, and such parallax distortion may interfere with immersion of the user's content. Accordingly, although many video stitching algorithms have been proposed to overcome parallax distortion, parallax distortion still occurs due to the low performance of the Object detection module and limitations of the Seam generation method. Therefore, this paper analyzes the limitations of the existing video stitching technology and proposes a method for detecting and correcting parallax distortion of video stitching using the LDPM (Local Differential Pixel Mean) image evaluation method that overcomes the limitations of the video stitching technique.

This paper proposes a new method to construct a panorama image from video sequences captured by the video camcoder revolving on the center axis of the tripod. The proposed method is consisted of two algorithms; frame selection and image mosaics. In order to select frames to construct the panorama image, we employ the interpolation search using the information in overlapped areas. This method can search suitable frames quickly. We construct an image mosaic using the projective transform induced from four pairs of quasi-features. The conventional methods select feature points by using only texture information, but the presented method in this paper uses the position of each feature point as well. We make an experiment on the proposed method with real video sequences. The results show that the proposed method is better than the conventional one in terms of image quality.

As the popularization and development of 3D display makes common users easy to experience a solid 3D virtual reality, the demand for virtual reality contents are increasing. In this paper, we propose 3D panorama system using vanishing point locationbased depth map generation method. 3D panorama using depthmap stitching gives an effect that makes users feel staying at real place and looking around nearby circumstances. Also, 3D panorama gives free sight point for both nearby object and remote one and provides solid 3D video.
Panoramic image creation has been extensively studied. Existing methods use customized hardware, or apply post-processing methods to seamlessly stitch images. These result in an increase in either cost or complexity. In addition, images can only be stitched under certain conditions such as existence of characteristic points of the images. This paper proposes a low cost and easy-to-use system that produces realtime panoramic video. We use an off-the-shelf embedded platform to capture multiple images, and these are then transmitted to a server in a compressed format to be merged into a single panoramic video. Finally, we analyze the performance of the implemented system by measuring time to successfully create the panoramic image.
Panorama image is a single image obtained by combining images taken at several viewpoints through matching of corresponding points. Existing panoramic image generation methods that find the corresponding points are extracting local invariant feature points in each image to create descriptors and using descriptor matching algorithm. In the case of video sequence, frames may be a lot, so therefore it may costs significant amount of time to generate a panoramic image by the existing method and it may has done unnecessary calculations. In this paper, we propose a method to quickly create a single panoramic image from a video sequence. By assuming that there is no significant changes between frames of the video such as in locally, we use the FAST algorithm that has good repeatability and high-speed calculation to extract feature points and the Lucas-Kanade algorithm as each feature point to track for find the corresponding points in surrounding neighborhood instead of existing descriptor matching algorithms. When homographies are calculated for all images, homography is changed around the center image of video sequence to warp images and obtain a planar panoramic image. Finally, the spherical panoramic image is obtained by performing inverse transformation of the spherical coordinate system. The proposed method was confirmed through the experiments generating panorama image efficiently and more faster than the existing methods.
Techniques related to 360 VR service have been developed to improve the quality of the stitched image and video, where illumination compensation scheme is one of the important tools. Among the conventional illumination compensation algorithms, Gain-based compensation and Block Gain-based compensation algorithms have shown the outstanding performances in the process of making panorama picture. However, those are ineffective in the 360 VR service, because the disparity between illuminations of the multiple pictures in 360 VR is much more than that in making the panorama picture. In addition, the number of the pictures to be stitched in 360 VR system is more than that in the conventional panorama image system. Thus, we propose a preprocessing tool to enhance the illumination compensation algorithm so that the method reduces the degradation in the stitched picture of 360 VR systems. The proposed algorithm consists of 'color compensation' and 'illumination compensation'. The simulation results show that the proposed technique improve the conventional techniques without additional complexity.

Since a display device such as TV or signage is getting larger, the types of media is getting changed into wider view one such as UHD, panoramic and jigsaw-like media. Especially, panoramic and jigsaw-like media is realized by stitching video clips, which are captured by different camera or devices. In order to stich those video clips, it is required to find out 2D Adjacency Matrix, which tells spatial relationships among those video clips. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), which is used as a compression transform method, can convert the each frame of video source from the spatial domain (2D) into frequency domain. Based on the aforementioned compressed features, 2D adjacency Matrix of images could be found that we can efficiently make the spatial map of the images by using DCT. This paper proposes a new method of generating 2D adjacency matrix by using DCT for producing a panoramic and jigsaw-like media through various individual video clips.
In the near future, traditional narrow and fixed viewpoint video services will be replaced by high-quality panorama video services. This paper proposes a visual-attention-aware progressive region of interest (RoI) trick mode streaming service (VA-PRTS) that prioritizes video data to transmit according to the visual attention and transmits prioritized video data progressively. VA-PRTS enables the receiver to speed up the time to display without degrading the perceptual quality. For the proposed VA-PRTS, this paper defines a cutoff visual attention metric algorithm to determine the quality of the encoded video slice based on the capability of visual attention and the progressive streaming method based on the priority of RoI video data. Compared to conventional methods, VA-PRTS increases the bitrate saving by over 57% and decreases the interactive delay by over 66%, while maintaining a level of perceptual video quality. The experiment results show that the proposed VA-PRTS improves the quality of the viewer experience for interactive panoramic video streaming services. The development results show that the VA-PRTS has highly practical real-field feasibility.
