  • The Pyeongan Supergroup can be divided into seven lithostratigraphic units (Moscovian to Early Triassic?) in the Samcheok coalfield and four lithostratigraphic units (Bashkirian to Artinskian) in the Yeongwol coalfield of South Korea. On the basis of fusulinid biostratigrapic data in the Yeongwol coalfield, the boundary between the Carboniferous and Permian strata of the Pyeongan Supergroup has been considered as unconformity since the Kasimovian and Gzhelian strata are missing. Protriticites and Triticites, which are the cosmopolitan index fusulinids indicating the Kasimovian and Gzhelian age, are not found from the uppermost part of the Geumcheon and Pangyo Formations. Recently some fusulinids such as Xenostaffella koreaensis, Hanostaffella magna, and Fusulina danyangensis found from the uppermost part of the Geumcheon and Pangyo Formations are recognized as the early Kasimovian-type fusulinids, although the upper Kasimovian- to Gzhelian-type fusulinids are still missing.

  • The waterhammer occur when the pumps are started or stopped for the operation or tripped due to the power failure, and the hydraulic transients take place as a result of the sudden change in velocity. Several times, the field tests of the waterhammer were carried out for Pangyo booster pumping station. Pangyo pumping station was installed with the booster pumps of 6 sets and the in-line pumps of 2 sets. The in-line pumps are additionally needed to the surge suppression device so that the pumping station acquire the safety and reliability for the pressure surge.

  • As an innovation cluster has become an important policy tool for attaining regional and national competitiveness, many nations and regions are making great efforts to foster innovation clusters. In the case of Korea also, many innovation clusters have been established and some of them are recently receiving a lot of attention due to their performance. In fact, there have been lots of investment by the central and regional governments. However, there have been no in-depth analyses on Korean successful innovation clusters. This study investigates some of the success factors of a Korean representative innovation cluster, Pangyo Techo Valley. We find out that the Pangyo Techno Valley has four groups of success factors: innovative environment, consistent policy support by regional government, knowledge networks, and good feed-back system of innovation. Our findings would have some theoretical and practical implications for innovation cluster research and policy practice.

  • Since greenhouse gas emissions increase continuously, the authorities have needed climate change countermeasure for adapting the acceleration of climate change damages. According to "Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth", Korean local governments should have established the implementation plan of climate change adaptation. These guidelines which is the implementation plan of climate change adaptation should be established countermeasure in 7 fields such as Health, Digester/Catastrophe, Agriculture, Forest, Ecosystem, Water Management and Marine/Fisheries. Basically the Korean local governments expose vulnerable financial condition, therefore the authorities might be assessed the vulnerability by local regions and fields, in order to establish an efficient implementation plan of climate change adaptation. Based on this concepts, this research used 3 methods which are LCCGIS, questionnaire survey analysis and analysis of existing data for the multiphasic vulnerable assessment. This study was verified the correlation among 7 elements of climate change vulnerability by 3 analysis methods, in order to respond climate change vulnerability in rural areas, Seocheon-gun. If the regions were evaluated as a vulnerable area by two or more evaluation methods in the results of 3 methods' comparison and evaluation, those areas were selected by vulnerable area. As a result, the vulnerable area of heavy rain and flood was Janghang-eup and Maseo-myeon, the vulnerable area of typhoon was Janghang-eup, Masan-myeon and Seo-myeon. 3 regions (i.e. Janghang-eup, Biin-myeon, Seo-myeon) were vulnerable to coastal flooding, moreover Masan-myeon, Pangyo-myeon and Biin-myeon exposed to vulnerability of landslide. In addition, Pangyo-myeon, Biin-myeon and Masan-myeon was evaluated vulnerable to forest fire, as well as the 3 sites; Masan-myeon, Masan-myeon and Pangyo-myeon was identified vulnerable to ecosystem. Lastly, 3 regions (i.e. Janghang-eup, Masan-myeon and Masan-myeon) showed vulnerable to flood control, additionally Janghang-eup and Seo-myeon was vulnerable to water supply. However, all region was evaluated vulnerable to water quality separately. In a nutshell this paper aims at deriving regions which expose climate change vulnerabilities by multiphasic vulnerable assessment of climate change, and comparing-evaluating the assessments.

  • This study is an empirical analysis that makes a survey on the evaluation of innovation cluster. For this purpose, we explore a case of innovation cluster, the Pangyo Techno Valley. This survey applies a research frame and evaluation contents that the innovation performance which is the institutional, physical, and social configurations of innovation clusters. In particular, this empirical analysis identifies the configuration factors which are the rational influence factors of individual subjects, in order to foster innovation clusters from the case study of the Pangyo Techno Valley. We can suggest that innovation policy from the results of innovation performance by applied configuration factors for evaluation of innovation cluster in order to enhance and facilitate for innovation cluster. Also, this study can provide lessons for regional policy implementation and new cluster policy agenda in Korea.
