  • The use of I-Core sandwich panel has increased in cruise ship deck structure since it can provide similar bending strength with conventional stiffened plate while keeping lighter weight and lower web height. However, due to its thin plate thickness, i.e. about 4~6 mm at most, it is assembled by high power $CO_2$ laser welding to minimize the welding deformation. This research proposes a volumetric heat source model for T-joint of the I-Core sandwich panel and a method to use shell element model for a thermal elasto-plastic analysis to predict welding deformation. This paper, Part I, focuses on the heat source model. A circular cone type heat source model is newly suggested in heat transfer analysis to realize similar melting zone with that observed in experiment. An additional suggestion is made to consider negative defocus, which is commonly applied in T-joint laser welding since it can provide deeper penetration than zero defocus. The proposed heat source is also verified through 3D thermal elasto-plastic analysis to compare welding deformation with experimental results. A parametric study for different welding speeds, defocus values, and welding powers is performed to investigate the effect on the melting zone and welding deformation. In Part II, focuses on the proposed method to employ shell element model to predict welding deformation in thermal elasto-plastic analysis instead of solid element model.

  • Photovoltaic System is increasing install capacity based on environmental-friendly characteristics. It have been actively studied to improve the efficiency. In order to design highly efficient system, it is important to understand the output characteristics of solar panels. The single diode model can represent the physical characteristics of solar panel. But it needs complex process such as mutli-step measurement and numerical analysis to get the exact parameters. In this paper, The method for extracting characteristic parameters of the single diode model based on the I-V characteristic curves in the panel manufacturer's data-sheet is presented. To verify the proposed method, solar cell model constructed in simulink. Simulink model output compared with output graph in datasheet.

  • This paper analyzes Korean residential tenure choice for house which is the most important in Korean households' assets. Data used in the analysis is the data of Korean Labor and Income Panel Study for the period from 1998 to 2006 and with 2341 households. In this paper, a household chooses a housing tenure mode, either by renting or by owing house. We use a mixed-logit panel model as an estimation model to take into consideration household's heteroscedasticity of preference in tenure choice. It turns out that the heteroscedasticity is significant in households' tenure choice behavior, implying that Korean housing policy emphasizing supply side should consider the demand side.

  • The panel shear and bearing strengths determining the seismic resistance of reinforced concrete column-to-steel beam connections are predicted by various methods for four previously tested exterior beam-column joints. The analytical approach to model the joint deformation is also examined. Several analyses incorporating the deformations of panel shear and bearing in the joint are demonstrated using a analyses incorporating the deformations of panel shear and bearing in the joint are demonstrated using a fairly simple connection model in the commercial packages such as Drain2dx and IDARC. The strength prediction results indicated that the ASCE method with the modifcation of the comprssion strut contribution is th most accurate. It is also considered that the analytical model presented including the joint deformation can be used for the overall analysis

  • In this article, the buckling responses of functionally graded curved (spherical, cylindrical, hyperbolic and elliptical) shell panels under elevated temperature load are investigated numerically using finite element steps. The effective material properties of the functionally graded shell panel are evaluated using Voigt's micromechanical model through the power-law distribution with and without temperature dependent properties. The mathematical model is developed using the higher-order shear deformation theory in conjunction with Green-Lagrange type nonlinear strain to consider large geometrical distortion under thermal load. The efficacy of the proposed model has been checked and the effects of various geometrical and material parameters on the buckling load are analysed in details.

  • Purpose - This paper aims to find and analyze factors that determine the flows of bilateral foreign direct investment in intra-ASEAN. It specifically focuses on the dimension of macro-economic, natural resources, human resources, and the quality of governance. Research design, data, and methodology - Data were collected from 64 bilateral relations between ASEAN nations from 2002 to 2013. Panel gravity model was utilized to find factors that determine the flows of bilateral foreign direct investment. Results - Significant factors were identified that determine the flows of bilateral foreign direct investment: GDP home country, GDP host country, real interest rate, distance, and total natural resources rent. Unexpectedly, natural resources have a negative effect. Conclusions - In a situation of increasing the flow of FDI among the countries of ASEAN, the government should control the interest rates and maintain good relations with nearby countries. The negative effect of total natural resource rents implies that ASEAN countries should not depend on their natural resources to attract foreign investments.

  • In this Paper, we propose a lighting system for the stable detection of check defects of the CRT panel through the analysis of the lighting interaction between the lighting unit and the CRT panel. The check defect is very difficult to detect reliably because of its high sensitivity according to the direction of incident light. At first, we model the physical shape of check defects using SEM image. And then we apply physics based illumination model to investigate the optical characteristics of the check defect. Finally, we propose a lighting system for the stable detection of check defect. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed lighting system for check inspection.

  • It was recognized by some researchers that the disturbance variance in a censored regression model is frequently underestimated by the maximum likelihood method. This underestimation has implications for the estimation of marginal effects and asymptotic standard errors. For instance, the actual coverage probability of the confidence interval based on a maximum likelihood estimate can be significantly smaller than the nominal confidence level; consequently, a Bayesian estimation is considered to overcome this difficulty. The behaviors of the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators of disturbance variance are examined in a fixed effects panel regression model with a limited dependent variable, which is known to have the incidental parameter problem. Behavior under random effect assumption is also investigated.

  • Estimating the effects of price increase on a company's sales is important task faced by managers. If consumer has prior information on price increase or expects it, there would be stockpiling and subsequent drops in sales. In addition, consumer can suppress demand in the short run. These factors make the sales dynamic and unstable. In this paper we develop a time series model to evaluate the sales patterns with stockpiling and short-term suppression of demand and also propose a forecasting procedure. For estimation, we use panel data and extend the model to Bayesian hierarchical structure. By borrowing strength across cross-sectional units, this estimation scheme gives more robust and reasonable result than one from the individual estimation. Furthermore, the proposed scheme yields improved predictive power in the forecasting of hold-out sample periods.
