  • The reaction of ${\alpha}$-Benzilmonoxime with palladium(II) produces a green complex in triton X-100 micellar media. Palladium has been determined using zero and first derivative spectrophotometric methods. The absorbances of Pd(II)- ${\alpha}$--benzilmonoxime complex at 441.8 and 677.0 nm in 0.10 M perchloric acid solution were monitored and linear working ranges of 0.3-12.0 and 0.7-20 ${\mu}$g mL$^{-1}$ with detection limits of 0.07 and 0.10 ${\mu}$g $mL^-1$ were obtained, respectively. Also, recoveries in the range of 92.8 to 100.1% and relative standard deviations in the range of 0.4 to 7.1% were obtained. First derivative spectrophotometry has also been applied for palladium determination under the optimum condition. The linear dynamic range of 0.2-24.0 ${\mu}$g $mL^{-1}$ palladium with relative standard deviations of 0.6-6.9% and recoveries in the range of 94.9-102.5% has been obtained by first derivative spectrophotometry. The method shows high selectivity because of the high concentration of acid used, which prevents formation of complexes of ${\alpha}$--benzilmonoxime with the other cations. The palladium complex formed was stable at least one day. The method was successfully applied to the determination of palladium in some synthetic palladium alloys and palladium-charcoal powder.

  • Nanosized palladium particles were synthesized using palladium(II) chloride, trisodium citrate dihydrate, and sodium borohydride under stirring condition. Nanosized palladium-graphene composites were prepared from palladium nanoparticles, and graphene was enclosed with polyallylamine under stirring condition for 1 h followed by ultrasonication for 3 h. Nanosized palladium-graphene composites were heated in an electric furnace at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 h and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. UV-vis spectrophotometry was used to evaluate the nanosized palladium-graphene composites as a catalyst in the photocatalytic degradation of various organic dyes such as methylene blue, methyl orange, rhodamine B, and brilliant green under ultraviolet light at 254 nm.

  • This study was conducted as a preliminary study for the recycling of palladium and palladium oxide. In this study, thermodynamic equations for the formation of palladium oxide (PdO) are established. Palladium chloride is dissolved into hydrochloric acid to generate a palladium chloride solution. Nanosized palladium oxide powder with an average particle size below 30 nm were generated from this raw material solution by means of a spray pyrolysis process. The palladium oxide particles were composed of a single solid crystal. The results of XRD analysis showed that only a PdO phase of the generated powder was formed. And, the specific surface area of the generated palladium powder was approximately $32m^2/g$.

  • Deposition potential, deposition time, square wave frequency, rotation speed of the rotating disc electrode, and palladium concentration were studied on a Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) in 0.01M HCl for the determination of palladium in High Level Nuclear Waste (HLNW) by anodic stripping voltammetry. Experimental conditions were optimized for the determination of palladium at two different, $10^{-8}$ and $10^{-7}M$, levels. Error and standard deviation of this method were under 1% for all palladium standard solutions. The developed technique was successfully applied as a subsidiary method for the determination of palladium in simulated high level nuclear waste with very good precision and high accuracy (under 1 % error and standard deviation).

  • The cross-coupling reaction of organo tin reagents with a variety of organic halides, catalyzed by palladium, provides a novel method for generating a carbon-carbon bond. We used this method for the antibacterial agents, and synthesis of new quinolone derivatives which have carbon-carbon bond at C-7 position of general quinolone moieties. Aryl tin, quinolone moieties, and palladium catalyst were refluxed in DMF to afford new quinolone derivatives. This palladium catalyzed coupling reactions have capacity for further synthetic elaboration.

  • This study is related to the reactivity of dioxygen bridged palladium complexes having amine ligands. New dloxygen bridged palladium complexes were prepared using superoxide ion(${O_2}^-$) as an oxygen source. The reactions of dioxygen palladium complexes prepared in the study were examined in order to clarify the nature of the coordinated dioxygen. Treatments of a solution of the dioxygen bridged palladium complexes in benzene by water, methanol, acetic acid gave hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$) and hydroxy, methoxy, acetoxy-bridged palladium complexes, respectively. The dioxygen bridged palladium complexes reacted with substitution phenols of salicylaldehyde, 8-hydroxyquinoline and active mothylenes of acetylacetone, dimethyl malonate to afford mononuclear complexes of palladium and hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, she dioxygen bridged palladium complexes changed to acetonyl bridged palladium complex and hydrogen peroxide reacting with acetone. The results suggest that dioxygen is coordinated as peroxo (${O_2}^{2-}$) in the complexes and behaves as a strong base.

  • The multi-scale analysis is more proper and precise for composite materials because of considering the individual microscopic structure and properties of each material for composite materials. The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of using palladium particles in carbon/fiber composites by multi-scale analysis. The palladium is a material for itself to detect leaking hydrogen by using the property of adsorbing hydrogen. The macroscopic model material properties used in this study are homogeneous material properties from microstructure. Homogenized material properties that are calculated from periodic boundary conditions in the microscopic representative volume element model of each macroscopic analysis model. In this study, three macroscopic models were used : carbon fiber/epoxy, carbon fiber/palladium, palladium/epoxy. As a result, adding palladium to carbon/epoxy composite is not a problem in terms of strength.

  • The conducting behavior of dendritic carbosilanes including palladium ions (Pd$^{2+}$) has been measured. The palladium ion containing dendrimers were prepared by the addition of palladium dichloride to double-layered dendritic carbosilanes, which consist of phenylethynyl groups (-C≡CPh) on the outmost periphery as well as phenylethenyl and propyleneoxy groups (-CH=CPh- and (CH$_2$)$_3$O-) in the inner shell. By measuring conductivities, palladium ion containing dendrimers revealed an increasing tendency according to the increasing number of double bonds in the inner shells of dendritic carbosilanes.s.

  • A palladium can adsorb hydrogen and detect leaking hydrogen through changes in color and electrical resistance. This study is to evaluate the structural behavior of carbon fiber adding palladium composite materials used in the hydrogen storage vessel. A multi-scale analysis technique was used to analyze accurately the behavior of each material in relation to the microscopic composition. The multi-scale analysis is more proper and precise for composite materials because of considering the individual microscopic structure and properties of each material for composite materials. Also the crack evaluation was performed by XFEM analysis to confirm the reinforcement performance of aluminum as a liner of the hydrogen vessel. The results show that the addition of the palladium material increased the macroscopic stress, but microscopically the carbon fiber stress was reduced. It means the performance improvement of the palladium added carbon fiber/Al composite.

  • The reactions of (E)-1-hexenylboronic acid (1) or (E)-${\beta}$-phenylethenylboronic acid (2) with various olefins in acetonitrile at room temperature in the presence of lithium palladium chloride and triethylamine gave the corresponding (E, E)-conjugated dienes stereospecifically in good yields. (E)-${\beta}$-Phenylethenylboronic acid (2) was more reactive than (E)-1-hexenylboronic acid (1) in these vinylations. And these vinylations were also carried out catalytically when 10 mol % of lithium palladium chloride and cupric chloride, as the reoxidant of palladium, or 10 mol % of palladium acetate and mercuric acetate were added instead of stoichiometric amount of lithium palladium chloride.
