  • This paper analyzes transmissiondelays of a message and a packet in a time-varying and packet-based radio link. The paper assumes that thearrivals of messages have a Bernoulli process and the lengths of the messages a exponential distribution. To reflect the feature of the time-varying radio link, we use a two-state Markov model. From the model the mean transmission delay of and the mean queue length of the packet are analyzed in terms of the packet distribution function, the packet transmission service time, and the PER of the radio link. And the mean message transmission delay time and the mean queue length are derived using the performance indices of the packet. Numerical results show that the message arrival rate and the message length have some bounds to keep the transmission of the message steady and to improve the performance indices of the message. It can be known that the PER of the state influences on the performance indices more than the sojourn time of the state.

  • The throughput of conventional ARQ protocols can be improved by dynamically adapting the packet length. This protocol transmits packets with the length to maximize the transmission efficiency, based on the dynamic estimation of time-varying channel condition. A very simple adaptive scheme is presented. The results of a simulation show that the scheme performs well.

  • To operate the automatic devices of manufacturing process more effectively and to solve the needs of the resource sharing, network technology is applied to the control devices located in common manufacturing zone and operated by connecting them. In this paper, functional standard of the network layers are set as physical and data link layer of IEEE 802.2, 802.4, and VMD application layer and ISO-CIM reference model. Then, they are divided as minimized architecture, designed as group objects which perform group management and service objects which organizes and operates the group. For the stability in this network, this paper measures the variation of data packet length and node number and analyzes the variated value of the waiting time for the network operation. For the method of the analysis, non-exhausted service method are selected, and the arrival rates of the each data packet to the nodes that are assumed to form a Poission distribution. Then, queue model is set as M/G/1, and the analysis equation for waiting time is found. For the evalution of the performance, the length of the data packet varies from 10 bytes to 100 bytes in the operation of the group management network, the variation of the wating time is less than 10 msec. Since the waiting time in this case is less than 10 msec, response time is fast enough. Furthermore, to evaluate the real time processing of the group management network, it shows if the number of nodes is less than 40, and the average arrival time is less than 40 packet/sec, it can perform stable operation even taking the overhead such as software delay time, indicated packet service, and transmissin safety margin.

  • In this paper, an integrated voice/data packet network with window flow control is modeled by a colsed multichain queueing system, and its performance is analyzed by the mean value analysis method. Particularly, for the analysis of a packet network having various kinds of messages with different priority classes, we introduce an approach based on the mean value analysis and the concept of effective capacity. By the mathematical analysis and computer simulation, we obtain the following network statistics in the steady state: Mean buffer occupancy at each node, utilization of link throughput of a virtual channel, and mean delay time of each message. Our iterative analysis method can predict the link data status in most cases within about 10 percent of accurady, and the statistics of voice messages and external data within 5 percent as compared to simulation results.

  • In this paper, we investigate the packet delay distribution of a dynamic bandwidth allocation(DBA) scheme in an Ethernet passive optical network(EPON). We focus on the gated-exhaustive vacation system. We assume that input packets arrive at an optical network unit(ONU) according to general interarrival distribution. We use a discrete time queueing model in order to find the packet delay distribution of the gated-exhaustive system with the primary transmission queue and the secondary input queue. We give some numerical examples to investigate the mean packet delays of the proposed queueing model to analyze the DBA scheme in an EPON.

  • In this paper, a Variation of Blast with Go-Back-N(V-BGBN) protocol is proposed, which differs from Blast with Go-Back-N(BGBN) and Blast with Full Retransmission on Error(BFRE) protocols in the retransmission strategy of packets. Performances of these three protocols under correlated packet errors are analyzed. Throughput efficiency of an arbitrary packet is obtained under the assumption that the round trip delay and the packet length are respectively constant. Recursive formula and difference equations are used as analytical tools. Correlation of packet errors is modelled by a two state Markov chain. The throughput efficiencies under these protocols are compared. V-BGBN protocol is shown to be superior to other two protocols in high speed network.

  • In this paper, an analytical model of the message delay in the DQDB (Distributed Queue Dual Bus) network is investigated. The DQDB network has been adopted as a subnetwork for the IEEE 802 MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) standard. The DQDB network consists of two high speed undirectional buses and a series of stations attached to both of the buses. Massages arriving at each station consists of severla packets according to its size. This system is approximated into " $B^{[x]}$/G/1 with exceptional first service queueing " by defining the concept of service time on a packet. The service time for a packet is defined as the time from the instant the packet arrives at the transmission buffer until the time the packet is fully transmitted. By using the BASTA property and the average work in the system, the mean message delay time is obtained.age work in the system, the mean message delay time is obtained.d.

  • This paper studied performance of the AAL2 for variable rate real time services in ATM network with discrete-time simulation model. In this simulation, input parameters are packet fill delay for AAL2 PDU generation, guard time for ATM cell generation, burstness and number of channels. Though variation of the above mentioned parameters, we obtained end-to end delay variations and throughput, analyzed performance effect of the each parameter for voice packet service.

  • MPLS LER is located at the boundary of MPLS domain as an ingress or an egress router and plays a role in connecting with the existing Internet. Among the components of the MPLS LER, forwarding engine(FE) is a key device which assigns a label to an IP packet by analyzing the destination address of its header in order to enter the MPLS domain, or restructures the cells from MPLS domain into IP packet by reversely processing. In this paper, we investigate the design of FE by analyzing the traffic performance of its components and estimate the IP packet processing capacity of a FE using queueing model and simulation. It is found that the maximum IP packet processing capacity of the Forwarding Engine is about 150,000 packets/sec.
