In order to use glued built up timber beam as a structural member for post and beam construction, it must be possible to manufacture long-span lumber. In this study, the researchers conducted a performance evaluation for longitudinal bonding of lumber (cross-section $89{\times}120mm$) made from larch. The specimens were prepared in six different forms using the longitudinal bonding method. The bonding strength of these specimens was tested through tensile strength tests and bending strength tests. The tensile strength test result of the longitudinally bonded parts was better than that of the double lap specimens. And, the tensile strength value of the scarf specimen was better than that of the hooked scarf specimen. The tensile strength of the GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) rod insertion bonding specimen was 3.6 MPa, which was the highest. As for the bending strength test result of the longitudinally bonded part, the average MOR (modulus of rupture) of the specimen where a GFRP rod was inserted and bonded measured 29 MPa, while the specimens of other bonded parts showed a MOR no more than 11 MPa. Toughness destruction was observed in specimens where a GFRP rod was insertion-bonded. The rest of the specimens showed brittle destruction. The average MOR strength of the Rod + Lap specimen was 30.5 MPa, which was the highest among all longitudinally bonded specimens. The bending strength of the Rod + Lap specimens showed an effective strength that was 66% of that of the control group which were not longitudinally bonded.

We experienced a case of nephropathy in chronic lead poisoning. The patient was 43-year-old male who has been working in secondary lead smelting plant for 14 years. On admission, blood pressure was 160/90 mmHg and the others were non-specific. In past history, he received chelating agent administration for lead poisoning irregularly and medicated for gout, and the blood lead concentration was $180.0{\mu}g/dl$ on 2 months before admission. Smoking habit has been 1 pack per day for 15 years and drinking habit has been 1 bottle of Soju per day but less flow. In liver function test, AST/ALT were 27/28 IU/l and $\gamma-GT$ was 456 IU/l. In blood test, Hb : 11.5 g/dl, Hct : 34.0% and basophilic stipplings were found in peripheral blood smear. Chest PA was normal and abdominal ultrasonographic finding was non-specific except fatty liver. In the test of lead exposure indices, $PbB:83.0{\mu}g/dl,\;PbU:28.3{\mu}g/l$, and blood ZPP was $300.0{\mu}g/dl$. And in renal function test, BUN : 31.4 mg/dl, blood creatinine : 2.7mg/dl, blood uric acid. 9.1 mg/dl, urinary albumin : 100.0 mg/g creatinine, urinary $\alpha_1-microglobulin$ : 120.5 mg/g creatinine, urinary $\beta_2-microglobulin$ : $183.8{\mu}g/g$ creatinine, and 24 hours urinary creatinine clearance was 31.9 ml/min. The ultrasonoguided renal biopsy showed the global sclerosis of glomerulus, moderate atrophy and loss of tubule, and interstitial fibrosis in light microscopy. There were diffuse losses of brush border of proximal tubule in electronmicroscopy.

Background: Pleural abnormality is the the most common respiratory change caused by asbestos dust inhalation and also develop other asbestos related disease after cessation of asbestos exposure. So we conducted epidemiologic study to investigate if the pleural abnormality is associated with pulmonary function change and what factors are influenced on pulmonary function impairment. Methods: Two hundred and twenty two asbestos workers from 9 industries using asbestos in Korea were selected to measure the concentration of sectional asbestos fiber. Ouestionnaire, chest X-ray, PFT were also performed. All the data were analyzed by student t-test and chi-square test using SAS. Regressional analysis was performed to evaluate important factors, for example smoking, exposure concentration, period and the existence of pleural thickening, affecting to the change of pulmonary function. Results: 1) All nine industries except two, airborn asbestos fiber concentration was less than an average permissible concentration. PFT was performed on 222 workers and the percentage of male was 88.3%, their mean age was $41{\pm}9$ years old, and the duration of asbestos exposure was $10.6{\pm}7.8$ yrs. 2) The chest X-ray showed normal(89.19%), pulmonary Tb(inactive)(2.7%), pleral thickening (7.66%), suspected reticulonodular shadow(0.9%). 3) The mean values of height, smoking status, concentration of asbestos fiberwere not different between the subjects with pleural thickening and others, but age, cumulative pack-years, the duration of asbestos exposure were higher in subjects with pleural thickening. 4) All the PFT indices were lower in the subjects with pleural thickening than in the subjects without pleural thickening. 5) Simple regression analysis showed there was a significant correlation between $FEF_{75}$ which is sensitive in small airway obstruction and cumulative smoking pack-years, the duration of asbestos exposure and the concentration of asbestos fiber. 6) Multiple regression analysis showed all the pulmonary function indices were decreased as the increase of cumulative smoking pack-years and especially in the indices those are sensitive in small airway obstruction. Pleural thickening was associated with reduction in FVC, $FEV_1$, PEFR and $FEF_{25}$. Conclusion: The more concentration of asbestos fiber and the more duration of asbestos exposure, the greater reduction in $FEF_{50}$, $FEF_{75}$. Therefore PFT was important in the evaluation of early detection for small airway obstruction. Furthermore pleural thickening without asbesto-related parenchymal lung disease is associated with reduction in pulmonary function.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the practice exercising and cycling on the gait abilities of dementia elderly patients. Forty forty elderly patients with dementia were participants. Participants were divided into three groups as A, B, and C, Group A was a standard group which had been treated with electric treatment, hot pack, and exercise. The second group B had been treated with cycling added to the treatments of group A. Finally, treatments of group C were arranged by subtraction of exercise from those of group A. The test was a 'timed up and go test' used for measuring the rates of the gait ability through four months. The gait ability of each group was measured after each month. The results of this study are as following: 1. After first month, the averages of changes in gait ability of group C, A and B were -1.69, -1.67, and -1.13 seconds respectively. That means that dementia control was achieved significantly in group A and B (p<0.05)whereas it was not in group C. 2. The averages after two months were -4.00 seconds for group C, -2.60 seconds for group A, and -1.56 seconds for B, respectively. All groups acquired significant effects in treating dementia (p<0.05). 3. After three months, -6.38, -3.00 and -2.31 seconds were average values of group C, A and B respectively. Same as results after two months, there were significant effects in all groups (p<0.05). 4. After four months, the averages of changes in gait ability of three groups were -8.00. -3.93 and -3.00 seconds for group C, A and B respectively. In the all patients treated analysis, treatments showed significant results (p<0.05). 5. Compared with each other through four months. three groups testing the timed up and go test showed more efficient in maintaining gait ability, in order of group B. A, and C

The objective of this study is to find out the effect of yeast on hair loss treatment and the role of hair follicle stem cell activator, which is important in hair growth. The authors have recently produced a substance, which has no disgusting odor, does not precipitates and does not easily corrupt, to use instead of yeast acquired from raw rice wine(Makgeolli). The substance is named Yeast Constituent Extract(YCE). In this research, the Produced YCE was applied on the hair loss area of 10 Androgenic alopecia patients, twice every day for 6 months, in order to test the effect of hair loss treatment and the role of stem cell activator. As a result, all of the patients showed a significant growth of hair after 3 months of test, and showed much more growing, thickening and strengthening of hair after 6 months. As a result of measuring the number of hair strings in the same scalp region of the patients after 6 months, it is found that the density of hair has increased, indicating that the hair loss treatment was effective. Also the hair follicle stem cell was isolated from the patients and the contents of growth factors (IGF, VEGF, FGF, HGF) derived from hair follicle stem cell were measured with ELISA. As result, the amount is found to be about 10 times greater than before the test. The hair follicle stem cell contains many growth factors that affect growth of hair, so it takes a highly important role in hair loss treatment. The YCE that the authors have produced was found to be effective in increasing the contents of growth factors that are derived from hair follicle stem cell. Thus it can be inferred that the YCE plays a role as a stem cell activator that activates the hair follicle stem cells. In conclusion, the YCE is considered to be highly effective for hair loss treatment and to have a role as a stem cell activator.

The purpose of this study was to find out the potential of the Mosidae(Adenophora remtriflora) leaf, one of the natural ingredients, for the cosmetics by measuring their antioxidant functions and skin improving effects. The result of the phytonutrient of the Mosidae leaf test shows, that the heat extract of Mosidae leaf DPPH has 9% higher ability than Ethanol extract.(p<0.05), but significant a difference was not found between the hydroxyl Radical of Mosidae leaf heat extract (65.22%) and Ethanol extract(63.50%). Mosidae leaf heat extract(40.82mg/mL) has much lower polyphenol compound than Ethanol extract(47.90mg/mL)(p<0.05). A clinical test of Mosidae leaf powder pack was performed for a group of 16 middle aged women(age between 35-60) from October 20 to November 17, 2011. Control group was used on the right cheek, and test group was used on left cheek for comparison. The procedure was twice a week for 4 weeks to identify and grade level of moisture, roughness, pore size and spot. After 4 weeks of testing, there were significant improvements in moisture enhancement and spot(p<0.05), subtle change in roughness and the size of the pores. Therefore, we confirmed skin improvement effect of Mosidae leaf as new cosmetic material.

Comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising and promotion were introduced through tobacco control legislation in Viet Nam, but it has been established that violations of the bans are very common. This study was conducted to explore the trend in violations of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in Viet Nam in the past six years and to explore any differences in the violation situations before and after the Law on Tobacco Control came into effect on 1st May 2013. Quantitative data were collected through observation of violations of the bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in 10 provinces throughout Viet Nam in four survey rounds (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2015). Variation in violation prevalence over time was examined by chi-square test using a Bonferini method. Binary logistic regression was employed to identify the factors that may have influences on different types of violation. A level of significance of p<0.05 was used for all tests in this article. The most common form of violation was the display of more than one pack/one carton of a cigarette brand. Violation of bans on tobacco advertising increased while violations on promotion ban and on displaying tobacco decreased through time. Some factors associated with the tobacco advertising and promotion bans included surveyed years, types of points of sale, regions and areas where the points of sale were located. The enforcement of the bans did not improve even after the issuance and the enactment of the Law on Tobacco Control. This suggests that the monitoring and enforcement of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale should be strengthened. Penalties should be strictly applied for violators as indicated in the current tobacco control legislation.
One-way degassing valves usually designed for coffee packaging are recently applied to the various food packaging such as fermented health functional food or home meal replacement (HMR) packaging. The optimized degassing pressure by food product is important factor for keeping effective freshness and improving preservation of the food, therefore the development of degassing valves specified with various open pressure is needed. In this study, the mechanical characteristics of the degassing valve with ring type rubber disk were analyzed and a mathematical model was developed to predict the open pressure of the valve. The model was verified with test results derived from several available valves, and it may be useful in designing and developing a new valve.
Lithium-ion cells have become the go-to energy source across all applications; however, dendritic growth remains an issue to tackle. While there have been various research conducted and possible solutions offered, there is yet to be one that efficiently rules out the problem without, however, introducing another. This paper seeks to present a fast charging method and system to which lithium-ion batteries are charged while maintaining their lifetime. In the proposed method, various lithium cells are charged under multiple profiles. The parameters of charge profiles that inflict damage to the cell's electrodes are obtained and used as thresholds. Thus, during charging, voltage, current, and temperature are actively controlled under these thresholds. In this way, dendrite formation suppressed charging is achieved, and battery life is maintained. The fast-charging system designed, comprises of a 1.5kW charger, an inbuilt 600W battery pack, and an intelligent BMS with cell balancing technology. The system was also designed to respond to the aging of the battery to provide adequate threshold values. Among other tests conducted by KCTL, the cycle test result showed a capacity drop of only 0.68% after 500 cycles, thereby proving the life maintaining capability of the proposed method and system.
Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare disorder that's characterized by accumulation of surfactant components in the alveolar space. Idiopathic PAP is recognized as an autoimmune disease that's due to impaired alveolar macrophage function and this caused by autoantibodies against granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). We report here a case of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis that was deemed interstitial lung disease at the initial diagnosis. A 61-year-old man presented with intermittent blood tinged sputum and dyspnea on exertion. The man was a painter for 30 years and he had a 10 pack-years smoking history. Chest computerized tomography (CT) revealed multifocal ground-glass opacity with interstitial thickening at both lungs. His pulmonary function tests and methacholine test revealed non specific results. He was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease on the basis of the chest CT finding and occupational history. However, seven months later, his symptoms progressed. Follow-up chest CT was performed. Wedge resection via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (the anterior basal segment of the left lower lobe) was done. Microscopic examination showed large groups of alveoli with excessive amounts of surfactant and a complex mixture of protein and lipid (fat) molecules. Finally, he was diagnosed as having pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
