  • In this study, 3-D underwater object restoration using ultrasonic sensor fabricated with porous PZT-Polymer 3-3 type composite are presented Using the acquired underwater object data $16{\times}16$ pixels, Modified SCL neural networks using the $16{\times}16$ low resolution image was used for underwater object restoration of $32{\times}32$ high resolution image.

Characteristics of piezoelectric ceramic-polymer composites by fabrication methods (제조방법에 따른 압전 세라믹-고분자 복합소재 특성)

  • The PZT(KP12) powder was synthesized by sintering at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs and wet milling for 24 hrs. The PZT composite mixed with PVdF was fabricated into bulk, sheet, and plate type and the characteristics of three types were estimated. The bulk type which has PZT volume percent of 70 showed the best piezoelectric constant. Dielectric constant increased exponentially as an increase of PZT volume percent. The figure of merit of bulk and plate type was better than pure PZT over PZT volume percent of 50.

  • Nondestructive damage sensitivity on single-basalt fiber/epoxy composites was evaluated by micromechanical technique and acoustic emission (AE). Piezoelectric lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) copolymer were used as AE sensor, respectively. In single-fiber composite, the damage sensing with different sensor types were compared to each other. Piezoelectric PVDF polymer sensor was embedded in and attached on the composite, whereas PZT sensor was only attached on the surface of specimen. In case of embedded polymer sensors, responding sensitivity was higher than that of the attached case. It can be due to full constraint inside specimen to transfer elastic wave coming from micro-deformation. For both the attached and the embedded cases, the sensitivity of P(VDF-TrFE) sensor was almost same as that of conventional PVDF sensor.

A Study on Pyroelectric Characteristics of PZT/Polymer Composite Material (PZT/Polymer 복합재료의 초전 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In the present investigation, ceramic PZT and Polymer were prepared. The former is Pb[(Sn1/2Sb1/2)0.1 Ti0.27Zr0.63]O3 including Pb(Sn1/2Sb1/2)O3 with good pyroelectric effect, and the latter PVA(Poly Vinyl Alcohol) with good plasticity. Then, they were fabricated to be flat by using 0-3 connectivity which is rather easily fabricated and capable of making thin film, extending surface area among the connectivities. Such were applied to the sample as variation of intensity of poling field, poling temperature, volume fraction between ceramic and polymer. Then dielectric constant, pyroelectric current, pyroelectric coefficient and the figure of merit were measured. And then their effects on pyroelectric characteristics were observed.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric ceramics PZT powder was synthesized by Wet-Dry combination method. The flexible 1-3-0 type composites were fabricated with piezoceramic PZT and Eccogel polymer matrix embedded 3rd phase. This paper represents the acoustic properties with various 3rd phase wt.%. The acoustic impedance of 1-3-0 type composites was lower than that of single phase PZT ceramics. The pulse-echo response of transducer fabricated with 1-3-0 type composites was better than solid PZT transducer.

  • Composition with O-3 connectivity were fabricated from PZT and phenolic resin powders. These composites were investigated for dielectric and pizoelectric properties with PZT-polymer interface porosity variation. The interface porosity dependence of dielectric and piezoelectric properties was especially discussed by porosity factors. The interface porosity dependence of piezoelectric constant was larger than that of dielectric constant. It was considered that the interface pore plays the role of a stress buffer. Thus the local stress applied on PZT particles in the composite was remarkably diminish.

  • Dielectric and conductive frequency spectra in 0.01 Hz-13 MHz range have been measured for the composite consisting of PZT inclusions dispersed in $LiCIO_{4}$-doped polyerhylene oxide(Li_PEO) matrix with various volume fractions. The dielectric and conductive spectra of the composites revealed the relaxations related with electrode polarization and interfacial polarization. The observed spectra were reproduced using the empirical dielectric function and we could obtain various parameters related to the above two kinds of polarizations and dicussed about the parameters.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric ceramics PZT powders were synthesized by Wet-Dry combination method. And the flexible 1-3-0 type composites were favricated with piezoceramic PZT and Eccogel polymer matrix embedded 3rd phase. Dielectric constant of 1-3-0 type composites was lower than that of single phase PZT ceramics. Thickness mode coupling factor $k_t$ which was comparable with single phase PZT ceramics, and Mechanical Quality factor $Q_m$ were about 0.65 and 6 respectively. These composites are considered as a good candidates for broad-band type transducer applications. The acoustic impedance for 1-3-0 type composites was lower than that of single phase PZT ceramics. Therefore, these composites would be better used for hydrophone applications.

  • Electro-mechanical coupling performance ($k_t$) of a 1-3 type Piezo-composite was analyzed numerically using FEM. The calculated physical properties of the PZT ceramics were compared with the experimental data and the accuracy of the numerical method was verified. Also the $k_t$ of the composite was analyzed with the vol% and the material properties of the constitutional parts, and the aspect ratio of the PZT rod. As the simulated results, the $k_t$ increased rapidly when the vol% of the PZT ceramics increased up to 30 vol% and saturated the constant value in the above region. And the composite using the soft matrix polymer than the hard one have the superior $k_t$ characteristics. The $k_t$ was greatly influenced by the aspect ratio of the PZT rod up to 30 vol% of PZT ceramics. To improve the $k_t$ characteristics, it is useful that the composite consist of the relatively flexible polymers and the PZT material having the excellent piezoelectric characteristics.
