The water vapor weighted vertically mean temperature(Tm) models, which were developed by the consideration of seasonal characteristics over the Korea, was used in the retrieval of precipitable water vapor (PWV) from GPS data which were observed at four GPS permanent stations. Since the weighted mean temperature relates to the water vapor pressure and temperature profile at a site, the accuracy of water vapor information which were estimated from GPS tropospheric wet delay is proportional to the accuracy of the weighted mean temperature. The adaption of Korean seasonal weighted mean temperature model, as an alternative to other formulae which are suggested from other nation, provides an improvement in the accuracy of the GPS PWV estimation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the seasonally appropriate weighted mean temperature model, which is used to convert actual zenith wet delay (ZWD) to the PWV, can be more reduced the relative biases of PWV estimated from GPS signal delays in the troposphere than other annual model, so that it would be useful for GPS PWV estimation with high accuracy.

A Raman LIDAR system has been designed and constructed for quantitative measurement of water vapor mixing ratio. The comparison with commercial microwave radiometer and global navigation satellite system(GNSS) was performed for the precipitable water vapor(PWV) profile and total PWV. The result shows that the total GNSS-PWV and LIDAR-PWV have good correlation with each other. But, there is small difference between the two methods because of maximum measurement height in LIDAR and the GNSS method. There are some significant differences between Raman and MWR when the water vapor concentration changes quickly near the boundary layer or at the edge of a cloud. Finally we have decided that MWR cannot detect spatial changes but LIDAR can measure spatial changes.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine arterial stiffness levels as measured by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and to identify the association between arterial stiffness and inflammatory markers, in healthy adults over 50 years old. Methods: The study population consisted of 4617 persons over the age of 50 years who participated in the baseline survey of the Dong-gu Study, which was conducted in 2007 and 2008. Arterial stiffness was measured using baPWV. A multiple regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between conventional cardiovascular risk factors and inflammatory markers, including white blood cell (WBC) counts, high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT). Results: After adjustment for conventional cardiovascular risk factors including sex, age, smoking status, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, fasting glucose, hypertension or diabetic medication, total cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, and alanine aminotransferase, baPWV was significantly associated with WBC counts (${\beta}$=0.158, p<0.0001), hs-CRP (${\beta}$=0.244, p=0.026), and GGT (${\beta}$=0.003, p<0.0001). Conclusion: This study shows that arterial stiffness correlates with inflammatory markers. Arterial stiffness may be used as a composite risk factor to identify persons with higher risk for cardiovascular disease. Additionally, arterial stiffness may be a marker for future cardiovascular disease and a target for prevention.

The objective of this study is to improve an accuracy of PWV estimates using GPS in Korea. We determined a weighted mean temperature equation by a linear regression method based on 6 radiosonde meteorological observations, for a total 17,129 profiles, from 2003 to 2005. Weighted mean temperature, Tm, is a key parameter in the retrieval of atmospheric PWV from ground-based GPS measurements of zenith path delay. The accuracy of the GPS-derived PWV is proportional to the accuracy of Tm. And we applied the reduction of air Pressure to GPS station altitude. The reduction value of air pressure from mean sea level to GPS stations altitude is adopted a reverse sea level correction.
The mean temperature is one of the key parameters in computing Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) from Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements and is usually derived as a function of surface temperature through the use of a mean temperature equation (MTE). In this study, two new types of MTEs were developed as functions solely of the observation time so that the mean temperature can be obtained without surface temperature measurements. To validate the new models, we created one-year time series of GPS-derived PWV using the new MTEs and compared them with the radiosonde-observed PWV. The bias and root-mean-square error were on the other of ~1 mm and ~2 mm, respectively.
The investigation concerned an effect of the ground charcoal powder and organic acids on the digestibilities of protein and energy or the contents of uric acid, ammonia, creatine and urea in excreta of 113 week-old White Leghorn strain layers. Birds were fed basal (control) diet composed of mainly corn-soybean meal during a week of previous feeding and subsequent experimental diets during 12 weeks of experimental feeding . The experimental diets were the control diet(CON). diet(CPD) substituted 0.5% of the ground charcoal powder with the defatted rice bran of the CON, diet(PWV) added 0.1mM(based on the acetic acid) wood vinegar in the CPD and diet(PFA) added 0.1mM (based on the acetic acid) fermented acetic acid in the CPD. Birds fed CPD excreted significantly(P<0.05) more fecal nitrogen(FN) and lower urinary nitrogen (UN) than those of birds fed CON. Digestibility of protein was lower significantly (P< 0.05) in CPB-fed bird than in bird fed CON. while birds fed CON. PWV and PFA showed similar values. Also urinary nitrogen per nitrogen intake (UN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (UN/AN) was significantly (P<0.05) lower in birds fed CPD compared with those in birds fed CON. And birds fed PWV tended to increase UN/NI and UN/AN, while PFA-fed birds excreted significantly (P<0.05) higher UN/Nl and UN/Ah than those of birds fed CPD diet. The uric acid nitrogen (UAN) per nitrogen intake (UAN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (UAN/AN) were lower significantly(P<0.05) in CPD-fed birds and were tended to decrease in birds fed PWV compared with those in birds fed CON and PFA The ammoniacal nitrogen(AMN) per nitrogen intake (AMN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (AMN/NI) was tended to increase in birds fed experimental diets and was increased significantly(P<0.05) in birds fed PFA compared with those of birds fed CON. The excretion of creatine and urea nitrogen per nitrogen intake or absorbed nitrogen was shown similar values among birds fed experimental diets Digestibility of energy (DE/GE) was not shown any significant effect of experimental diet and were in the range of 80~84%. But metabolizability (ME/GE or MEn/GE) was increased in birds fed CPD and PWV and was decreased in birds fed PFA compared with those in birds fed CON. Although birds fed PWV showed significantly(P<0.05) higher ME/GE than bird fed PFA, the MEn/GE were higher significantly (P<0.05) in birds fed CON and CPD compared with that in birds fed PFA. Fecal energy affects 10~23% in the change of metabolizability though significant effect of fecal energy on the metabolizability were not found. But the effect of urinary energy on the metabolizability of diet was lowered as 2.3~3, 0% and the effect of experimental diets on the metabolizability of diets was due to change of urinary energy which also was originated from the change of uric acid energy.

This study investigated the performances of precipitable water vapor (PWV) retrieval from the sets of ground global positioning system (GPS) signals, each of which had different length of observing-session duration, for the purpose of obtaining as short session duration as possible that is required at the least for appropriate retrieval of the PWV for meteorological usage. The shorter duration is highly desirable to make the most use of the GPS instrument on board the mobile observation vehicle making measurements place by place. First, using Bernese 5.0 software the PWV retrieval was conducted with the data sets of GPS signals archived continuously in 30 seconds interval during 2-month period of January and February, 2012 at Bukgangneung site. Each of the PWVs produced independently using different session durations was compared to that of radio-sonde launched at the same GPS location, a Bukgangneung site. Second, the same procedure was done using the data sets obtained from the mobile observation vehicle that was operating at Boseong area in Jeonnam province during Changma observation campaign in 2013, and the results were compared to that at Bukgangneung site. The results showed that as the observing-session duration increased the retrieval errors decreased with the dramatic change happening between 3 and 4 hours of the duration. On average, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the retrieved PWV was around 1 mm for the durations of greater than 4 hours. The results at both the Bukgangneung (fixed site) and Boseong (mobile vehicle) seemed to be fairly comparable with each other. From this study it is believed that at least 4 hours of observing-session duration is needed for the retrieval of PWV from the ground GPS for meteorological usage using Bernese 5.0 software.
Precipitable water vapor (PWV) derived from a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model were compared to observations derived from ground-based Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers. The model data compared were from the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model short-range forecasts on nested grids. The numerical experimets were performed by selecting the cloud microphysics schemes and for the comparisons, the Changma period of 2008 was selected. The observational data were derived from GPS measurements at 9-sites in South Korea over a 1-month period, in the middle of June-July 2008. In general, the WRF model demonstrated considerable skill in reproducing the temporal and spatial evolution of the PWV as depicted by the GPS estimations. The correlation between forecasts and GPS estimates of PWV depreciated slowly with increasing forecast times. Comparing simulations with a resolution of 18 km and 6 km showed no obvious PWV dependence on resolution. Besides, GPS and the model PWV data were found to be in quite good agreement with data derived from radiosondes. These results indicated that the GPS-derived PWV data, with high temporal and spatial resolution, are very useful for meteorological applications.

ZHD (Zenith Hydrostatic Delay) model is important parameter in estimating of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor) along with weighted mean temperature. The ZWD (Zenith Wet Delay) is tend to accumulate the ZHD error, so that biases from ZHD will be affected on the precision of GNSS PWV. In this paper, we compared the accuracy of GNSS PWV with radiosonde PWV using three ZHD models, such as Saastamoinen, Hopfield, and Black. Also, we adopted the KWMT (Korean Weighted Mean Temperature) model and the mean temperature which was observed by radiosonde on the retrieval processing of GNSS PWV. To this end, GNSS observation data during one year were processed to produce PWVs from a total of 5 GNSS permanent stations in Korea, and the GNSS PWVs were compared with radiosonde PWVs for the evaluating of biases. The PWV biases using mean temperature estimated by the KWMT model are smaller than radiosonde mean temperature. Also, we could confirm the result that the Saastamoinen ZHD which is most used in the GNSS meteorology is not valid in South Korea, because it cannot be exclude the possibility of biases by latitude or height of GNSS station.
Background: Pulsatility of cerebral arteries and aortic stiffness have been associated with white matter hyperintensities (WMH). We explored which is better correlated with the severity of WMH in a population with acute lacunar infarct. Methods: We included patients with acute small subcortical infarcts who underwent transcranial Doppler (TCD) and brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). Exclusion criteria were any stenosis or occlusion on major cerebral arteries on magnetic resonance angiography; poor temporal insonation windows; ankle brachial index < 0.9; and atrial fibrillation. We assessed the performance of the pulsatility index of bilateral middle cerebral arteries (PI-MCA) and baPWV for predicting moderate-to-severe WMH, defined as an Age Related White Matter Changes score > 5, and then sought to find independent predictors using binary logistic regression analysis. Results: Eighty-three patients (56 males, mean age $61.5{\pm}11.4$) participated in the study. Uni-variate analysis showed old age and high PI-MCA were significantly correlated with moderate-to-severe WMH. However, baPWV was not associated with the severity of WMH. Multivariate analysis revealed old age (odds ratio per 1-year increase, 1.068; p = 0.044) and upper tertile of PI-MCA (odds ratio, 5.138; p = 0.049) were independently associated with moderate-to-severe WMH. Receiver-operating characteristics showed PI-MCA differentiated those with and without moderate-to-severe WMH with an area under the curve of 0.719. Conclusions: PI-MCA derived from TCD was better correlated with the severity of WMH than baPWV in a population with lacunar infarction. Pulsatility of cerebral arteries may better predict cerebral small vessel disease than the aortic stiffness index.
