Wide-Input Range Dual Mode PWM / Linear Buck Converter with High robustness ESD Protection Circuit

  • This paper proposes a high-efficiency, dual-mode PWM / linear buck converter with a wide-input range. The proposed converter was designed with a mode selector that can change the operation between PWM / linear mode by sensing a load current. The proposed converter operates in a linear mode during a light load and in PWM mode during a heavy load condition in order to ensure high efficiency. In addition, the mode selector uses a bit counter and a transmission gate designed to protect from a malfunction due to noise or a time-delay. Also, in conditions between $-40^{\circ}C$ and $140^{\circ}C$, the converter has variations in temperature of $0.5mV/^{\circ}C$ in the PWM mode and of $0.24mV/^{\circ}C$ in the linear mode. Also, to prevent malfunction and breakdown of the IC due to static electricity, the reliability of IC was improved by embedding a self-produced 8 kV-class(Chip level) ESD protection circuit of a P-substrate Triggered SCR type with high robustness characteristics.

  • This paper proposes new driving methods for designing a driver independent of the current property of organic light emitting diodes (OLED) displays. The proposed methods are the Look-Up Table (LUT) and the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The LUT is used to handle the amount of the current for driving the OLED display panel and the PWM is applied to represent the gray scale on the OLED display panel. Segment and common drivers were implemented using delay circuits to prevent short-circuit current and a DC-DC converter was designed to supply the drivers with a power source. In particular, tile proposed methods are used for the manufacturing of 1.8" 128$\times$128 dot passive matrix OLED display panel. The designed circuit was fabricated using 0.6w, 2-poly, 3-metal, CMOS process and applied to the Personal Communication System (PCS) phone successfully.ully.

  • This paper presents a step-down converter IC for automotive applications. This device was designed for a 40 V/1 A high-power output for voltage reference of automotive IC. It provides 250kHz PWM (pulse width modulation) and PFM(pulse frequency modulation) according to load conditions. This device was simulated spectre of IC-design-tools and fabricated Dong-bu Hitec 0.35um BD350BA process.

  • This paper proposes a PWM circuit using CMOS OTAs. The features of the proposed PWM circuit are IC oriented circuits, simple configuration, and bias current controlled output. In order to verily the validity of the proposed circuit, it is simulated by H-SPICE program. Futhermore, the proposed circuit is integrated on chip using 0.35 $\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology.

  • 본 논문에는 Flyback컨버터의 PWM방식과 조명용 LED 구동장치의 디밍에 의한 조명제어를 제안한다. 제안된 LED 구동회로는 Flyback 컨버터를 이용하여 교류 입력 전원을 직류 출력전원으로 변환되는 과정을 이해한다. 포터커플러의 역할과 그 Feedback원리 그리고 PWM방식으로 IC를 직접 제어하여 버스트 디밍을 구현하고 LED의 밝기 밝기 조절 및 불필요한 전력낭비를 예방하는데 목적을 두었다.

  • This paper describes a current mode PWM DC-DC converter IC for battery charger and supply power converter for portable electronic devices. The maximum supply voltage of IC is 40[V] and 2.8[V]~330[V] DC input power is converted to higher or programmed DC voltage according to external resistor ratio or wire winding ratio of transformer. The maximum supply output current is 3[A] over and voltage error of output node is within 3[%]. The whole circuit needed current mode PWM DC-DC converter circuit is designed. The package dimensions and number of external parts are minimized in order to get a smaller hardware size. The power consumption is smaller then 1[mW] at stand by period with supply voltage of 3.6[V] and maximum energy conversion efficiency is about 86[%]. This device has been designed in a 0.6[um] double poly, double metal 40[V] CMOS process and whole chip size is 2100*2000 [um2].

  • A PWM Circuit using CMOS OTA is proposed. It features that the oscillation frequency is independent of supply voltage and temperature, and is linearly controlled by the bias current of OTA. The H-SPICE simulation results are given and they show good performance of the proposed circuit. The layout results using 0.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology for IC implementation are also given.

  • This paper presents three PWM modulators using CMOS OTAs. They consist of a ramp integrator and current-tunable Schmitt triggers. Prototype circuits built using discrete components exhibited that their duty cycles are linearly controllable. The proposed modulators can be easily fabricated in a monolithic IC, because they have a simple structure.

  • 기존의 위상천이 풀 브리지 DC/DC 컨버터의 경우 변압기의 누설 인덕턴스와 2차 측 정류 다이오드의 기생 출력 커패시턴스 사이의 공진으로 인하여 정류 다이오드 양단에 큰 공진 전압이 발생하며, 이는 소자의 신뢰성 저하 및 시스템의 전력 변환 효율을 감소시킨다. 반면 LLC 공진형 컨버터는 2차 측에서 발생되는 공진 에너지가 출력 커패시터로 흡수되지만 경 부하시에 높은 스위칭 주파수로 인하여 효율이 저감되며, 출력 전압을 제어하기 위해 추가적인 부하저항이 요구된다. 따라서 최근에는 LLC 공진형 컨버터로 동작시키면서도 PWM 제어를 통해 출력전압을 제어하는 방법이 연구되고 있으나, 새로운 게이트 구동 방식을 위해 DSP 제어를 사용하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 산업에서 많이 사용되고 있는 아날로그 IC를 통해 동일한 동작 및 성능을 구현시킬 수 있는 방법에 대하여 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 방식의 타당성을 검증하기 위하여 이론적으로 분석하며, 6.6kW급 시작품을 제작하여 제안방식의 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • This paper describes a design of digital PWM controller for automotive brake solenoid valve which is used in ABS/ESC SoC. The PWM controller which consists of 12 channels supports both direct control and PI control. Six channels in direct control mode make consistent PWM signals according to duty ratio setting, and the others in PI control mode make PWM signals with constant current depending on current setting. The PWM controller also has functions including solenoid valve open detection, Dither and PWM phase shift. The PWM controller having 44,779 gates is fabricated using a 0.18um CMOS process, and test results show that all the functions are correct.
