DDPWM Based Control of Matrix Converters

  • In this paper, pulse-width modulation (PWM) control strategy of various topologies of matrix converters is presented, which is based on direct duty ratio PWM (DDPWM). Because the DDPWM method has the characteristics of the inherent per-phase modular structure, it can be effectively applied to single-phase, two-phase and three-phase four-leg matrix converters as well as the common three-phase to three-phase matrix converter. Also, this paper treats command generation method in each matrix converter. The feasibility and validity of the proposed method are verified by experimental results.

  • This paper presents the novel control and analysis of GTO-CSC. The control method is based on the linearization of an optimal modulation strategy so that the turn-on-periods of the GTO switches can be computed in real-time for any specified modulation index. These PWM patterns allow to produce minimal ac line current low order harmonics of ac line current and low switchings. Finally, the computer simulation results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • Many new electronic products are required to have a near unity power factor and a distortion free input current waveform. In this paper, a high performance single phase PWM AC/DC converter with input power factor correction is proposed. This proposed control strategy has many advantages which include one semiconduction switch, simplified control circuit, high performance features and continuous input current. The experimental results are included to verify the validity of this approach.

  • In this paper, we present an exoskeletal haptic device named SKK Hand Master. This device is directly driven linkages actuated with small ultrasonic motors. By adopting ultrasonic motors that have advantageous features useful for cybernetic actuators, a compact haptic device containing whole driving packages can be established without additional power transmissions such as tendons. Methods for measuring joint postures and joint torques are developed and a new control strategy called PWM/PS is proposed to overcome intrinsic disadvantages such as hysteresis. Issues regarding design and construction of the device are addressed and several results of experiments for the evaluations of performance are included.

  • A new three-phase soft-switching active front-end inverter is presented. The topology consists of a quasi-resonant PWM boost converter with an additional resonant branch, which provides low loss at high frequency operation. This leads to a high conversion efficiency and a remarkable reduction in the size of the input inductor. To synchronise the PWM pattern with the resonance cycle, a modified space vector modulation with asymmetrical PWM pattern is used. A high power factor can be achieved for both power flow directions. Due to a new control strategy the converter features a low content of harmonics in the line currents even for distorted line voltages.

  • In this paper, a DC smoothing filterless soft switching pulse modulated high frequency AC power conversion circuit connected to utility. frequency AC power source is proposed for consumer induction heating hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The operating principle of DC link filterless utility frequency AC-high frequency AC (HF AC) power conversion circuit defined as high frequency cycloinverter is described, which can operate under a principle of ZVS/AVT and power regulation based on alternate asymmetrical PWM in synchronization with the utility frequency single phase AC positive or negative half wave voltage. The dual mode modulation control scheme based on high frequency PWM and commercial frequency AC voltage PDM for the proposed high frequency cycloinverter are discussed to enlarge its soft switching commutation operating range for wide HF AC power regulation. This high frequency cycloinverter is developed for high frequency IH Dual Packs Heater (DPH) type boiler used in consumer and industrial fluid pipeline systems. Based on the experiment and simulation results, this high frequency cycloinverter is proved to be suitable for the consumer use IH-DPH boiler and hot water producers. The cycloinverter power regulation and power conversion efficiency characteristics are evaluated and discussed.

Single Phase Utility Frequency AC-High Frequency AC Matrix Converter Using One-Chip Reverse Blocking IGBTs based Bidirectional Switches

  • This paper presents a novel type soft switching PWM power frequency AC-AC converter using bidirectional active switches or single phase utility frequency AC-high frequency AC matrix converter. This converter can directly convert utility frequency AC (UFAC, 50Hz/60Hz) power to high frequency AC (HFAC) power ranging more than 20kHz up to 100kHz. A novel soft switching PWM prototype of high frequency multi-resonant PWM controlled UFAC-HFAC matrix converter using antiparallel one-chip reverse blocking IGBTs manufactured by IXYS corp. is based on the soft switching resonance with asymmetrical duty cycle PWM strategy. This single phase UFAC-HFAC matrix converter has some remarkable features as electrolytic capacitor DC busline linkless topology, unity power factor correction and sine-wave line current shaping, simple configuration with minimum circuit components, high efficiency and downsizing. This series load resonant UFAC-HFAC matrix converter, incorporating bidirectional active power switches is developed and implemented for high efficiency consumer induction heated food cooking appliances in home uses and business-uses. Its operating performances as soft switching operating ranges and high frequency effective power regulation characteristics are illustrated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results.

  • The multi-level approach seems to be best suited to high power, high voltage ac drives with low torque ripple and fast dynamic response. If high control performance is required, space vector control becomes desirable, and the task becomes time critical. In this paper, a simplified space vector PWM method for the control of a three level inverter is proposed. As the PWM is simple in structure, it is easy to implement and the fluctuation of the neutral point potential of DC link can be supressed effectively. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed PWM strategy can be applied to high power, high voltage inverter systems. And its application to multi-level inverter is easily done on the same principle.

  • 유도 전동기의 일정자속 벡터제어에서 유도전동기의 속도를 별도의 속도검출장치가 없이, 전동기의 속도를 1차측 전압과 전류 및 전동기정수에 의하여 추정하는 방법을 제시하고 전류추종형 PWM인 버터에 의하여 구동 시스템을 구성하였다. 모든 연산 및 제어회로를 마이크로프로세서에 의하여 보다 간단하게 실현시켜 유도전동기의 가변속 구동특성을 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션과 실험에 의하여 조사하였다. 속도검출장치를 이용한 경우와 연산회로에 의하여 계산된 경우의 입력 전류파형상의 차이를 조사한 결과 미소한 리플성분을 제외하고는 잘 일치하였으며, 기동 및 가감속시의 속도추종특성도 시뮬레이션의 결과와 함게 양호하게 얻어졌다.

  • Ozone gas is one of the strongest oxidizing and bleaching agents which leave no residues harmful to the global environment. In recent years, the ozone generator has been widely utilized, However, it has been known that a broader application of ozone is hindered primarily because of its low efficiency of generation. Thus, it is more indispensable to improve actual system efficiency of the silent discharge type ozonizer using high frequency inverter. This paper presents a multi level resonant ozone power regulation by association of high frequency transformers and full bridge invert. And proposed resonant inverter system can generate continuous output voltage. can control linearly quantity of ozone gas. This invert that add PWM forms within square forms of output voltage about one level range. The power regulation characteristics and operating performances of silent discharge (SD)type ozone generating tube load driven by this load proposed inverter using FET modules are illustrated from a practical point of view, which can operate under stable conditions of basic level and PWM hybrid control strategy implemented DSP(2406). The effectoveness of propsed invert type ozonizer is proved by experiment results.
