In this study, in the selection of materials for the elements of a small plant, those with high resistance to corrosion are selected and the material properties of coatings for corrosion prevention are evaluated. In addition, corrosion characteristics and material analysis were performed on the welded part, and the hardness characteristics of the welded part, heat-affected part, and the base metal were evaluated. In the case of the post-weld-heat-treated(PWHT) specimen, the corrosion resistance of STS 316 was lower than that of the specimen without the PWHT due to the formation of intergranular carbide. As a result of evaluating the distribution of the hardness of the weld before and after the PWHT, the hardness of the specimen after the PWHT increased by about 20 Hv. As a result of the corrosion test on the welded specimen, the weight loss tended to increase as the time increased. In the case of the PWHT specimen, the corrosion resistance tended to be significantly lower than that of the specimen without PWHT due to the formation of intergranular carbide.

Welding is the most commonly used method to produce bogie and carbody of Electrical Multiple Units(EMU), because it increases the strength and lowers the weight of EMU. Since bogies are constantly exposed to repeated reacting load during acceleration and deceleration, it is also true that crack normally occurs at welding parts. In this study, we have investigated the fatigue strength of SS400 on welded parts in order to find efficiency of treatment after welding by shot peening and Post-Weld heat treatment(PWHT) with butt welded specimens. The results of fatigue test indicate that the measurement of base material specimen is 236MPa, welded specimen is 132MPa and the specimen of PWHT is 107MPa approximately. We concluded that the measurement of welded specimen and PWHT is approximately 44 and 54 percents lower than the base material specimen, respectively. Another finding is that the peened specimen is approximately 23 and 61 percents higher than the base material specimen in terms of the fatigue in strength of specimens.
The contents of this paper include the evaluation of corrosion characteristics and the behaviour of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) for the weldment and post weld heat treatment (PWHT) specimen and parent of HT -60 steel using a slow strain rate test (SSRT) in synthetic seawater. Corrosion characteristics were obtained from the polarization curves by potentiostat, and SCC phenomena were evaluated through the parameters such as reduction of area and time to failure by comparing the experimental results in corrosive environment with those obtained in air. Corrosion rate of the weldment was the fastest, followed by parent and PWHT specimen. SCC phenomena between the weldment of HT-60 steel and synthetic seawater were shown. Besides, SCC was dependent upon the pulling speed greatly. Maximum severity of SCC was obtained at a speed of $10^{-6}mm/min$, whereas SCC could not be seen almost at $10^{-4}mm/min$. The resistance to SCC for PWHT specimen was improved considerably compared that of the weldment at $10^{-6}mm/min$. In case of SCC failure, it was verified from SEM examination that brittle mode and lots of pits could be seen at the fractured region near the surface of the specimen.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the AE characteristics for the basemetal, PWHT (post-weld heat treatment) and weldment specimens of SA-516 steel during fracture testing. Four-point bending and AE tests were conducted simultaneously. AE signals were emitted in the process of plastic deformation. AE signal strength and amplitude of the weldment was the strongest, followed by PWHT specimen and basemetal. More AE signals were emitted from the weldment samples because of the oxides, and discontinuous mechanical properties. AE signal strength and amplitude for the basemetal or PWHT specimen decreased remarkably compared to the weldment because of lower strength. Pre-cracked specimens emitted even lower event counts than the corresponding blunt notched specimens. Dimple fracture from void coalescence mechanism is associated with low-level AE signal strength for the basemetal or PWHT. Tearing mode and dimple formation were shown on the fracture surfaces of the weldment, but only a small fraction produced detectable AE.
The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of residual stress on fatigue crack growth behavior. For this purpose, submerged arc welding was performed on SM50A steel plate and post weld heta treatment (PWHT) was followed. Residual stress distribution on the weld plate was determined by a hole drilling method and a series of .DELTA.P-const. and .DELTA.K-decreasing fatigue test were performed on the three different regions, i.e. weld metal, HAZ and base metla. Following conclusins were achieved. 1. In "as welded" specimens, tensile residual stresses were produced in the center portion of the specimen while compressive residual stresses were produced near the edges. In PWHT specimens, however, most of the residual stresses were disappeared. 2. The fatigue crack growth behavior in low .DELTA.K region was considerably affected by the presence of residual stress in both "as welded" and PWHT specimens. 3. Because of the relaxation of residual stresses in PWHT condition, the values of m increased from 2.62-2.78 (in the "as welded" condition) to 3.57-3.91 (in the "PWHT" condition)3.91 (in the "PWHT" condition)condition)
The study is to investigate the influence on the fatigue crack growth behaviors for the welded configuration in pressure vessel stiffener. In order to perform this goal, the automatic welded specimens were prepared. The material is ASTM A516 grade 60 steel used in pressure vessel mainly. In skip welding of pad-on-plate, continuous fillet welding and PWHT specimen, fatigue crack is generally initiated at the starting and end old toe zone, and ruptured at the starting old toe zone. The fatigue life of pad-on-plate of the continuous fillet welding specimen is larger than that of pad-on-plate skip fillet welding specimen about 85% under low load, about 20% under high load and less than that of two-pad continuous fillet welding specimen about 85%. In da/dN-$\Delta$K curve under low load, skip fillet welding specimen of pad-on-plate showed retardation on the initial crack, and the fatigue crack growth rate at the low region of $\Delta$K greater specimen E($3.8 {\times} 10^{-6}mm/cycle$). And the fatigue life of welding specimen was smaller than that of PWHT specimen.

The susceptibility of SCC for the weldment and PWHT specimens of HT-60 steel was evaluated using a slow strain rate method under applied potential by means of the potentiostat in synthetic seawater. In case of the parent, anodic polarization voltage was inappropriate in elongating the time to failure(TTF). -0.8V corresponding to cathodic protection range is most effective in improving the SCC resistance against corrosive environment. In case of the weldment, the values of reduction of area(ROA) and TTF at -0.68V corresponding to cathodic polarization value were 45.2% and 715,809sec which were the largest and longest life among other applied potentials. Those were vise versa at -1.1V. In case of the PWHT specimens, TTF and ROA at -0.68V was longest and largest like the weldment. Besides, PWHT is effective in prolonging the time to failure of the welded off-shore structure due to softening of effect. Regardless of the weldment and PWHT specimen, as corrosion rate gets higher, TTF becomes shorter and deformation behaviour for the weldment and PWHT specimen at -1.1V was shown to be irregular. Finally, it was found that specimens showed brittle fracture at -1.1V, but more ductile fracture accompanying the micro-cracks at applied potential of -0.68V.

This Study is to investigate the influence of weld residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behaviors in pressure ves-sel reinforcement. In order to perform this study, the automatically welded specimens are prepared. The material is ASTM A516 grade 60 steel used in pressure vessel mainly. For pad-on-plate of skip welding continuous welding and PWHT specimen, fatigue crack initiation is generally initiat-ed at weld starting and end toe zone, and ruptured at weld starting toe zone, Fatigue life if pad-on-plate continuous speci-men is increased more than that of pad-on-plate skip fillet welding specimene about 85% under low load, about 20% under high load, and decreased than that of two-pad continuous welding specimen about 85%. In da/dN-$\Delta$ Κ curve under low load, pad-on-plate skip fillet welding specimen showed retardation on the initial crack, and the fatigue crack growth rate at the low region of $\Delta$Κ greater specimene E(3.8{\times}10^{-6}$mm/cycle). And the fatigue life of welding specimen was smaller than that of PWHT specimen.
Generally, as the welded region of weld structures has the incomplete bead and welded deposit which are able to behave like the surface cracks occasinally, there is a high possibility that the fatigue fracture of the weld structures is due to the surface cracks on the wlded region. This study was done to investigate the effects of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the fatigue behaviors of the surface crack of the heat affected zone (HAZ) for the multi-pass welds under the repetitive pure bending moment. The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1. The crack grows to the depth direction initially as the number of cylces increase, the amount of crack length is increased for the surface dir3ction and cive versa for the depth direction. 2. The fatigue life is increased in a order of as weld, PWHT specimens and parent. 3. As the number of cycles increase, the crack length is increased to th surface direction. The increase of the depth length is blunted at the center of specimen thickness. 4. The fatigue crack growth of PWHT specimens to the surface direction is dependent upon the holding time and applied stress during PWHT. In order words, the crack growth rate decreases with the holding time and increases with the applied stress during PWHT. 5. As the crack grows, the aspect formed in the course of crack propagation approaches to semicircle for parent and ellipse with the largest semidiameter for PWHT ($1/4hr, 15kgf/mm^2$) 6. At depth direction, it is difficult to apply to the paris' equation because of the scattered data between the crack growth rate and the stress intensity factor range.

The corrosion behaviors of laser-welded super duplex stainless steel tubes with post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) conditions(950, 1000, 1050, 1100 ℃ for 5 and 30 min) were evaluated by electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization and critical pitting temperature measurements. This study showed that the critical metallurgical factors affecting the degradation of corrosion resistance of a steel tube in as-welded condition were the unbalanced phase fraction(ferrite:austenite = 94:4), Cr2N precipitation, and phase transformation from the austenite phase to ɛ-martensite(via stress-induced phase transformation). The improvement in the corrosion resistance of the welded specimen depends greatly on the PWHT conditions. The specimens after PWHT conducted below 1000 ℃ showed inferior corrosion resistance, caused by precipitation of the sigma phase enriched with Cr and Mo. At 1100 ℃ for a longer duration in PWHT, the ferrite phase grows, and its fraction increases, leading to an unbalanced phase fraction in the microstructure. As a result, pitting can be initiated primarily at the interface between the ferrite/austenite phase, particularly in base metal.
