Deve lopment of Simulator System for Microgrids with Renewable Energy Sources

  • This paper deals with the design and testing of a simulator system for microgrids with distributed generations. This system is composed of a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) and a power amplifier. The RTDS parts are operated for real time simulation for the microgrid model and the distributed generation source model. The power amplifiers are operated fur amplification of the RTDS's simulated output signal, which is a node voltage of the microgrid and distributed generation source. In this paper, we represent an RTDS system design, specification and test results of a power amplifier and simulation results of a PV (Photovoltaic) system and wind turbine system. The proposed system is applicable for development and performance testing of a PCS (Power Conversion System) for renewable energy sources.

  • 국내에서 태양광 발전설비 설계 시 설계 단계에서의 태양광발전소의 발전량 예측은 국내 현장임에도 불구하고 PVsyst, PVWatts 등 해외 발전량 예측 프로그램과 해외 기상 자료를 이용하여 발전량을 예측하는 경우가 대부분을 차지하고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 기상정보를 활용한 발전량 예측 비교 연구를 위하여 현재 운영중인 2개 지역의 국내 태양광발전소를 대상지로 선정하였다. 발전량 예측 프로그램인 PVsyst를 활용하여 Meteonorm 7.1과 NASA-SSE의 해외 기상정보를 이용한 발전량 예측값과 국내 기상청 (Korea Meteorology Administration) 기상정보를 활용한 발전량 예측 정확성을 비교하였다. 추가적으로, 기상자료 비교 분석을 통한 발전량 예측 개선 방안을 연구하고, 최종적으로 실제 발전량과의 비교 분석을 통해 기후요소가 고려된 태양광 발전량 예측 수정 모델을 제시하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 단상 3.3kW PV-BESS 시스템과 능동전력디커플링 회로를 연계한 스마트 모빌리티 충전시스템을 제안한다. 일반적인 계통 연계 시스템에서 문제가 되는 2차 리플 전력을 능동전력디커플링 회로를 적용하여 제거함으로써 스마트 모빌리티에 안정적인 전력을 공급하고 스마트 모빌리티 충전 시스템의 전력밀도를 높이고 수명을 늘릴 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 시스템은 MATLAB/Simulink 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

수소기반 신재생에너지 복합발전 시스템의 지역별 운영성과 분석 - HOMER를 활용한 사례 연구 (Performance Analysis of Hydrogen Based Hybrid System Using HOMER - a Case Study in South Korea)

  • This study focuses on the performance of hydrogen energy based hybrid system in terms of system reliability of electricity generation. With this aim to evaluate the off-grid system of photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine, electrolyzer, fuelcell, $H_2$ tank and storage batteries, 14 different sites in South Korea are simulated using HOMER. Performance analysis includes simulation on the different sites, verification of operational behaviors on regional and seasonal basis, and comparison among a control group. The result shows that the generation performance of hydrogen powered fuelcell is greatly affected by geographical change rather than seasonal effect. In addition, as the latitude of the hybrid systems location decrease, renewable power output and penetration ratio (%) increase under constant electrical load. Therefore, the hydrogen based hybrid system creates the stability of electricity generation, which best suits in the southern part of South Korea.

  • 본 논문에서는 전력품질개선기능을 갖는 계통연계형 태양광 발전시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 전류제어형 전압원인버터 하나만을 사용하여 단위역률, 고조파저감 그리고 무효전력보상을 동시에 수행한다. 제안된 시스템의 동작모드는 2개의 모드로 구분할 수 있다. 야간모드에서는 PQC를 통해 부하에서 발생하는 무효전력을 보상한다. 주간모드에서는 고조파 저감 및 역률개선을 위한 PQC를 수행하면서 동시에 태양광의 최대전력을 발전하는 MPPT를 수행한다. 본 연구에서 제안한 시스템의 유용성을 확인하기 위해 시뮬레이션과 실험을 수행하였다.

Examination of excess electricity generation patterns in South Korea under the renewable initiative for 2030

  • According to the Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan announced in 2017 by the South Korean government, the electricity share of renewable energy will be expanded to 20% of the total electricity generation by 2030. Given the intermittency of electricity generation from renewable energy, realization of such a plan presents challenges to managing South Korea's isolated national electric grid and implies potentially large excess electricity generation in certain situations. The purpose of this study is: 1) to develop a model to accurately simulate the effects of excess electricity generation from renewables which would arise during the transition, and 2) to propose strategies to manage excess electricity generation through effective utilization of domestic electricity generating capabilities. Our results show that in periods of greater PV and wind power, namely the spring and fall seasons, the frequency of excess electricity generation increases, while electricity demand decreases. This being the case, flexible operation of coal and nuclear power plants along with LNG and pumped-storage hydroelectricity can be used to counterbalance the excess electricity generation from renewables. In addition, nuclear energy plays an important role in reducing CO2 emissions and electricity costs unlike the fossil fuel-based generation sources outlined in the 8th Basic Plan.

A Study on Determining an Appropriate Power Trading Contracts to Promote Renewable Energy Systems

  • The renewable energy systems have been in the spotlight as an alternative for environmental issues. Therefore, the governmental policies are being implemented to spread of promote power generation system using renewable energy in various countries around the world. In addition, Korea has also developed a policy called the power trading contract which can profit from electricity produced from renewable power generation system through Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Korea Power Exchange (KPX). As a result, the power trading contracts can trade power after self-consuming in-house by using small-scale renewable power system for residential customers as well as electricity retailers. The power trading contracts applicable as a small-scale power system have a 'Net metering (NM)' and a 'Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)', and these two types of power trading contracts trade surplus power, but payment method of each power trading is different. The microgrid proposed in this paper is based on grid connected microgrid using Photovoltaic (PV) system and Energy Storage System (ESS), that supplied power to residential demand, we evaluate the operation cost of microgrid by power demand in each power trading contracts and propose the appropriate power trading contracts according to electricity demand.

Single-Inductor, Multiple-Input-Single-Output Converter Based Energy Mixer for Power Packet Distribution System

  • Power packet (PP) distribution system distributes power to different loads that share the same distribution cable in a packetized form. When compared with conventional power systems, a PP distribution system (PPDS) can reduce standby power, eliminate Point-of-Load (PoL) power conversion, and intelligently control the load demand from the source side. Due to the absence of PoL conversion, when multiple power sources at different voltage levels and conditioning requirements jointly send power to various loads at different voltage ratings, the generated voltage has an irregular shape. A large filter at each of the load sides is required to reduce such a large voltage ripple. In this paper, a single-inductor, multiple-input-single-output converter structure based multiple-energy-source mixer is proposed. It combines PP generation, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of renewable energy sources (RESs) and filtering at the source side. To demonstrate the possible renewable energy integration, a PV panel is used as a power source together with other constant voltage sources. The PV power is approximately tracked using the constant voltage method and it is used for each of the PP generations. The proposed PP distribution system is experimentally verified and it is shown that a conventional PI controller is sufficient for stable system operation.

최적 일체형 태양광 발전용 전력변환장치 PCS 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of PCS Using a Solar Cells Generation of Optimal Integrated)

  • 본 논문에서는 PV 시스템에서 사용되는 회로들을 쉽게 해석할 수 있도록 모델링하였다. 시뮬레이션 툴은 직관적인 전기회로 시뮬레이션이 가능한 PSPICE를 이용하였다. 모델링한 라이브러리를 이용하여 태양전지의 사용에서 간과하기 쉬운 온도와 공간방사의 영향에 대해서도 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 이와 더불어 태양광 발전 시스템의 완전한 동작을 위해 DC-DC 벅-부스트 컨버터와 MPPT 제어 시스템에 대한 완전한 동작 시스템에 대해 모델링하고 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 양호한 동작을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 시뮬레이션의 동작을 입증하기 위하여 시뮬레이션에서와 동일한 조건의 실제 시스템을 구성하여 실험을 수행 하였으며 실험의 결과와 시뮬레이션의 결과가 동일한 동작을 수행하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 단상 3[kW] 계통연계형 태양광 전력변환기를 제안하였다.

태양광발전 단기예측모델 개발 (The Development of the Short-Term Predict Model for Solar Power Generation)

  • In this paper, Korea Institute of Energy Research, building integrated renewable energy monitoring system that utilizes solar power generation forecast data forecast model is proposed. Renewable energy integration of real-time monitoring system based on monitoring data were building a database and the database of the weather conditions and to study the correlation structure was tailoring. The weather forecast cloud cover data, generation data, and solar radiation data, a data mining and time series analysis using the method developed models to forecast solar power. The development of solar power in order to forecast model of weather forecast data it is important to secure. To this end, in three hours, including a three-day forecast today Meteorological data were used from the KMA(korea Meteorological Administration) site offers. In order to verify the accuracy of the predicted solar circle for each prediction and the actual environment can be applied to generation and were analyzed.
