Using both EVA and POE encapsulants, we fabricated polycrystalline Si PV modules and performed a set of reliability tests of PID, DH, TC, and Complex prior to outdoor installation. The power output with temperatures and insolation as well as I-V characteristics had been monitored under outdoor environments for 18 months. In the entire period, the total power of 3,576 kWh from POE PV modules was observed larger than 3,449 kWh from EVA PV modules by 3.5%. All the PV modules showed a 5.6~9.2% drop in the conversion efficiency. As for the solar power generation, the PV modules performed through PID, TC test revealed distinct difference in between EVA and POE for which the POE PV module produced more power by +11.4% and +6.6%, respectively, as measured in the 18th month. In addition, POE was proved to protect better the solar cells under PID influence.

The installation of PV system to the power distribution system is being increased as one of solutions for environmental pollution and energy crisis. However, the efficiency of PV system is getting decreased because of the aging phenomenon and several operation obstacles. Therefore, The technology development of aging diagnosis of PV modules are required in order to improve operation performance of PV modules. This paper proposes evaluation algorithm for aging state in PV modules by using the electrical characteristics of PV modules and environmental factors. And also, this paper presents a operation evaluation system of PV modules based on the proposed aging diagnosis algorithm of PV modules. From the simulation results of proposed evaluation system, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm is a useful tool for aging diagnosis of PV systems.
The efficiency of solar cell was about 4[%] in initial stage of photovoltaic industry, but it has quite a lot of efficiency through technology advances. Today, the efficiency of c-Si solar cells is about 17 to 19[%] and the efficiency of PV modules is about 14 to 15 [%]. We called that electrical losses occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules are CTM loss(Cell To Module loss), the CTM loss typically has a value of about3~5[%]. The more efficiency of solar cell increase, differences are larger because the efficiency decrease owing to physical or technical problems occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules. In this study, the power loss factors occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules are analyzed and it is proposed that how to reduce losses of the PV module. The types of power loss factor are (1)losses of front glass and encapsulant(generally EVA sheet), (2)losses by sorting miss, (3)losses by interconnection, (4)losses by the field aging of PV modules. In further study, experimental and evaluation will be conducted to make demonstrate for proposed solutions.

The economic feasibility of a photovoltaic (PV) system is greatly influenced by the initial investment cost for system installation. Also, electricity generation by PV system is highly important. The profits competitiveness of PV system will be maximized through intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M). Here, we developed a microconverter which can maximize electricity generation from PV modules by tracking the maximum power point of PV modules, and help efficient O&M. Also, the microconverter mitigates current mismatch caused by shading, hence maximize power generation. The microconverters were installed PV modules and demonstrated through the field tests. Power outputs such as voltage, string current were measured with variuos weather environments and partial shadings. We found that PV modules with the microconvertors shows 12.05% higher power generation compared to the reference PV modules.

In this study, major problems, such as licensing problems due to civil complaints, deterioration of facility period, and damage of modules, are exposed to many problems in domestic businesses. Particularly, the photovoltaic (PV) modules applied to early PV systems have been repaired and replaced over the past two decades, and a new module-based aging detection method is needed to expand the maintenance market and stabilize and repair power supplies. PV modules in a PV system use a string that is configured in series to generate high voltage. However, even if only one module of the solar modules connected in series ages, the power generation efficiency of the aged string is reduced. Therefore, we propose a topology that can measure the instantaneous PV characteristic curve to determine the aging module in the solar string and the aging judgment algorithm using the measured PV characteristic curve.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels are generally treated as the most dependable components of PV systems; therefore, investigations are necessary to understand and emphasize the degradation of PV cells. In almost all specific deprivation models, humidity and temperature are the two major factors that are responsible for PV module degradation. However, even if the degradation mode of a PV module is determined, it is challenging to research them in practice. Long-term response experiments should thus be conducted to investigate the influences of the incidence, rates of change, and different degradation methods of PV modules on energy production; such models can help avoid lengthy experiments to investigate the degradation of PV panels under actual working conditions. From the review, it was found that the degradation rate of PV modules in climates where the annual average ambient temperature remained low was -1.05% to -1.16% per year, and the degree of deterioration of PV modules in climates with high average annual ambient temperatures was -1.35% to -1.46% per year; however, PV manufacturers currently claim degradation rates of up to -0.5% per year.
A flyback inverter using voltage sensorless maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) AC modules is presented. PV AC modules for a power rating from 150 W to 300 W are generally required for their small size and low price because of the installation on the back side of PV modules. In the conventional MPPT technique for PV AC modules, sensors for detecting PV voltage and PV current are required to calculate the PV output power. However, system size and cost increase when the voltage sensor and current sensor are used because of the addition of the auxiliary circuit for the sensors. The proposed method uses only the current sensor to track the MPP point. Therefore, the proposed control method overcomes drawbacks of the conventional control method. Theoretical analysis, simulation, and experiment are performed to verify the proposed control method.
In this paper, we evaluated the effect of a silica-based Anti-Reflection(AR) coating for PV modules. The coating technique can be easily applied to large-scale PV modules at room temperature with improvements of the optical properties that is qualified by the optical transmission measurements on the coated cover glass of the modules. The power improvement of the large-scale PV modules shows the increasing about 2.4% at standard condition of the coating technique on average. To improve the AR coating effect of the PV modules, we have characterized the individual PV modules by the measurements of DC power output, modified performance ratio(PRm) and the regression. The results show that the significant improvements of the AR coating effect are 6.4%, 5.5% and 4.5% of increasing of the performances by using the measurements of DC power output, modified performance ratio(PRm) and the regression, respectively.
Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is a photovoltaic (PV) technology which can be incorporated into the roofs walls of both commercial and domestic buildings to provide a source of electricity. BIPV systems can operate as a multi-functional building components, which generates electricity and serves as part of building envelope. It can be regarded as a new architectural elements, adding to the building's aesthetics. Applying PV modules on roof has an advantage over wall applications as they seem to receive more solar radiation on PV modules. There are various types of PV applications on building roofs: attached, on-top and integrated. This paper describes the classification and characteristics of PV applications on roofs.
Building-Integrated Photovoltaic System(BIPV) has a muti-functional to generate electrical power and be able to be exterior materials for building. When PV modules are applied as envelope materials for building, the PV modules are considered on characteristics of the thermal effect and performance of PV module to optimize BIPV system synthetically. The purpose of this study is analysis of the changes of temperature and performance on PV modules. after installing four PV modules that have different ventilation type of PV module backside. Measurement results on this experiment is that the ventilation of PV module backside can control elevated module temperature and improve the performance of PV module. So, the technology development on the ventilation of PV module is suggested introducing effective BIPV system.
