  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection and screening method for transient stability. The variation of modal synchronizing torque coefficient(MSTC) is computed using eigen-sensitivity analysis of the electromechanical oscillation modes in small signal stability model and contingencies are ranked in decreasing order of the sensitivities of the MSTC(SMSTC). The relevant clusters are identified using the eigenvector or participating factor. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system. Ranking obtained by the SMSTC is consistent with the time simulation results by PSS/E.

  • The Single Machine Equivalent(SIME) is a hybrid method resulting from the coupling of a time-domain program with the equal-area criterion. This paper presents the efficient filtering algorithm using improved SIME for Transient Stability Assessment. The main feature of the method is cascading contingency filtering. First contingency filtering is conducted by using the first-swing stability of equivalent One Machine Infinite Bus(OMIB) system. This stability is evaluated by checking its time trajectory. Selected cases through the first step are assessed on the second step using SIME under the detailed model of power systems. The efficiency of the algorithm is tested on PSS/E test system.

  • This paper reports an expert system for coordination of protective relays in the high voltage transmission system. The proposed system consists of five modules and has adopted the frame and production rule representations achieving the efficient data storage and knowledgebases. It has an interface to the fault program PSS/E and has reduced the data retrival time by implementing the local database containg only the minimum information for the process. Different relay parameters and output formats of the setting results can be easily incorporated owing to the rule-based structure. Graphics-based output helps understanding of the process and enhances the practical power.

  • AESOPS computer program is designed to find those eigenvalues of a linear dynamic system model which most strongly characterize oscillations between generator rotors. The low frequency oscillation actually occurred in October, 1986 in Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) System. 28 oscillation modes are identified through computer runs and two of them are calculated unstable in the case of the start of a pumped-storage unit. This program is considered to complement the conventional PSS/E stability program for the stability study of KEPCO system.

  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection, screening and ranking method for on-line transient security assessment. Transient stability of a particular generator is influenced most by fault near it. Fault at the transmission lines adjacent to the generators are selected as contingency. Two screening methods are developed using the sensitivity of modal synchronizing torque coefficient and computing an approximate critical clearing time(CCT) without time simulation. The first method, which considers only synchronizing power, may mislead in some cases since it does not consider the acceleration power. The approximate CCT method, which consider both the acceleration and deceleration power, worked well. Finally the Single Machine Equivalent(SIME) method is implemented using IPLAN of PSS/E for detailed stability analysis.

  • 본 논문은 2003년 한전 실계통(154kV 강진 S/S)에 적용예정인 80MVA UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)시스템의 동적특성을 EMTDC/PSCAD를 이용하여 분석한 결과이다. UPFC는 FACTS 기기중 전압, 임피던스, 위상각등 전력전송 제어를 위한 송전선로의 모든 파라미터를 동시에 독립적으로 제어 할 수 있는 FACTS기기[1]로서, 미국 Inez S/S, Marcy S/S에 이어 강진 S/S에 80MVA 용량의 UPFC가 실계통 적용될 예정이다. 본 논문은 과도현상 해석 프로그램인 PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용하여 80MVA UPFC 제어기와 적용 대상 계통인 강진 S/S 인근 계통을 모델링하고 상정사고에 대한 UPFC 제어효과 분석에 대하여 기술하였다. 적용된 EMTDC UPFC모델은 실제 80MVA UPFC 기기에 채용된 전력회로, 제어기, 보호시스템과 동일하게 모델링하였으며 적용 대상계통은 PSS/E 해석결과와 동일하도록 강진 S/S인근 계통을 축약 등가화한 계통모델을 사용하였다.

  • This Paper presents a part of system study results for UPFC Pilot Plant application in Korea. The system study includes short circuit rate of Kangjin S/S which is site of UPFC Pilot Plant, ${\Delta}V/{\Delta}Q$ characteristics in STATCOM mode, P and Q flow control boundary of UPFC Pilot Plant. The system study is simulated by PSS/E Ver. 26.

  • This paper presents the results of power flow of North-South Korea system with interconnected cases which were proposed by various present studies. PSS/E and PowerWorld Simulator were used to analyze the inter connected system with several interconnected lines alternatives. The results would be very useful to select the best alternative for interconnection with considering several evaluation terms.

  • The STATCOM(Static Compensator) resulted from the FACTS technology can generate or absorb reactive power rapidly so as to increase the transient stability and voltage stability. In this paper, effects of application of the STATCOM to the power system are analyzed from a viewpoint of improving voltage stability. The voltage stability is analyzed by use of repeated power flow method. The IPLAN, which is a high level language used with PSS/E program, is employed for evaluating the voltage stability.

  • Transmission line data are very important for studying loadflow. Short circuit data(positive sequence, zero sequence) of 345kV and 154kV line were calulated and compared with KEPCO's line characteristics data. This Paper presents method of verification and complement of line data in PSS/E loadflow data using TMLC (Transmission Line Characteritics) program.
