  • In this paper, we present morphology-based step region extraction and regularized iterative point-spread-function (PSF) estimation methods. The proposed PSF estimation method uses canny edge detector to extract the edge of the input image. We extract feasible vertical and horizontal edges using morphology analysis, such as the hit-or-miss transform. Given extracted edges we estimate the optimal step-response using flattening and normalization processes. The PSF is finally characterized by solving the equation which relates the optimal step response and the 2D isotropic PSF. We shows the restored image by the estimated PSF. The proposed algorithm can be applied a fully digital auto-focusing system without using mechanical focusing parts.

  • The study was undertaken to investigate the effects of ZnCl$_2$ in polysulfone(PSf)/N-methylpyrrolidone(NMP) on the structure and performance of its membrane. The effects of additives on the performances of membranes have been studied. It has been shown that some low molecular weight additives in polysulfone(PSf) casting solutions have effects on the performances of membranes cast from these solutions. It had been reported that ZnCl$_2$, as the additives-in PSf casting solution, decreases water permeability and increases the rejection rate of its membrane.

  • Recently, the LRFD and the PSF based on structural reliability assessment have been applied to NPP designs in behalf of the conventional deterministic design methods. In the risk-informed structural integrity, it is especially possible to optimize design procedures considering cost, manufacturing and maintenance because the structural reliability concepts have confirmed the reliability for which a designer aims. Generally, in order to evaluate the PSF, the LRFD which is the design concept for evaluating safety factors respectively on the limit state function including load and resistance. This study certifies the concept and its applications of the PSF using the LRFD based on the structural reliability engineering.

  • This study is undertaken to investigate the effect of positive charge on the premeation characteristics of quaternary ammonium polysulfone (AMPS) membrane. AMPS membrane having a hydrophilic property was less fouled than PSf membrane. AMPS membrane had a positive charge and was thought to be able to expel charged solutes, such as basic dyes, proteins and amino acids, having same sign as the membrane surface.

  • Blur identification is the first and the most important step of restoring images. Edge region of the image usually conveys important information of blur parameters. In this paper we propose a region-based edge extraction method for estimating point-spread-function (PSF). As a result, the proposed method can detect the starting and the ending points of a step response, and provides the PSF parameters to the restoration process.

  • We investigated an anti-aliasing (AA) filter for digital camera photography by which the excessively high-frequency components of the image signal are suppressed to avoid the aliasing effect. Our optomechanical AA filter was implemented by applying rapid relative motions to the imaging sensor. By the engineered motion blur of the mechanical dithers, the effective point-spread function (PSF) of the imaging system could be tailored to reject the unwanted high-frequency components of the image. For optimal operations, we developed a spiral filter motion protocol that could produce a Gaussian-like PSF. We experimentally demonstrated that our AA filter provides an improved filtering characteristic with a better compromise of the rejection performance and the signal loss. We also found that the pass band characteristic can be enhanced further by a color-differential acquisition mode. Our filter scheme provides a useful method of digital photography for low-error image measurements as well as for ordinary photographic applications where annoying $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns must be suppressed efficiently.

  • 1. INTRODUCTION : The phase inversion method is widely used to prepare a variety of polymeric membranes ranging from micro-filtration to gas separation. The final morphology obtained by immersion precipitation strongly reflects the thermodynamics and kinetics of the system involved. The equilibrium thermodynamics of the ternary system of polymer/solvent/ nonsolvent is still very important to understand and predict membrane structure. Polysulfone (PSf) and polyethersulfone (PES) are important polymers as membrane materials due to the chemical resistance, mechanical strength, thermal stability and transport properies. There are several reports on the experimental phase diagrams in ternary mixtures of PSf/solvent/nonsolvent, and PES/solvent/nonsolvent. It would be interesting to investigate the solution thermodynamics containing these two polymers since PES is slightly less hyclrophobic than PSf.

  • We present the application of the Point Spread Function (PSF) deconvolution method to the astronomical Integral Field Unit (IFU) Spectroscopy data focus on the restoration of the galaxy kinematics. We apply the Lucy-Richardson deconvolution algorithm to the 2D image at each wavelength slice. We make a set of mock IFU data which resemble the IFU observation to the model galaxies with a diverse combination of surface brightness profile, S/N, line-of-sight geometry and Line-Of-Sight Velocity Distribution (LOSVD). Using the mock IFU data, we demonstrate that the algorithm can effectively recover the stellar kinematics of the galaxy. We also show that lambda_R_e, the proxy of the spin parameter can be correctly measured from the deconvolved IFU data. Implementation of the algorithm to the actual SDSS-IV MaNGA IFU survey data exhibits the noticeable difference on the 2D LOSVD, geometry, lambda_R_e. The algorithm can be applied to any other regular-grid IFS data to extract the PSF-deconvolved spatial information.

  • Thin film composite (TFC) polyamide membranes were prepared on polysulfone (PSF) supports for forward osmosis (FO) applications. To understand the influence of polarity and porosity of support layer on the formation of polyamide structure and the final FO performance, clathochelate metal complex (MC) contained PSF supports were prepared via the phase inversion process from various PSF casting solutions containing 0.1-0.5 wt% of MC in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solvent (18 wt%). A crosslinked aromatic polyamide layer was then fabricated on top of each support to form a TFC membrane. For the porous PSF supports prepared with relatively low concentration casting solutions (12 wt%), the PET film was removed after phase inversion and crosslinked aromatic polyamide layer was then fabricated. The tested sample from PSF (18 wt%)/MC (0.5 wt%) casting solution presented outstanding FO performance, almost similar water flux (9.99 LMH) with lower reverse salt flux (RSF, 0.77 GMH) compared to commercial HTI FO membrane(10.97 LMH of flux and 2.2 GMH of RSF). By addition of MC in casting solution, the thickness of the active layer in FO membranes was reduced, however, the increased RSF value was obtained.

  • Small angle light scattering (SALS) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) have been used to investigate the light scattering patterns with time evolved during water vapor quenching (relative humidity of 53 (${\pm}3)%$ at $26^{\circ}C$ of polysulfone (PSf)/NMP/Alcohol and chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC)/THF/Alcohol, respective1y. Time dependence of the position of the light scattering maximum was observed at PSf dope solutions, confirming spinodal decomposition (SD), while CPVC dope solutions showed a decreased scattered light intensity with an increased q-value, indicating nucleation & growth (NG). For the each system, domain growth rate in the intermediate and late stage of phase separation decreased with increasing the number of carbon of alcohol used as additive (non-solvent). Also, in the early stage for SD, the scattering intensity with time was in accordance with Cahn's linear theory of spinodal decomposition, regardless of types of non-solvent additive. Also, the size scales obtained by SALS were mutually compared to domain sizes gained by FE-SEM measurement. These observations of scattering pattern were much clearly observed for the 20PSf/70NMP/10n-butanol (w/w%) and agreed with the theoretical predictions for scattering patterns of each stage like the early, the intermediate, and the late stage of SD type phase separation. As the scattering maximum was observed at the larger angles (larger q) in the order of n-butanol > n-propanol > methanol > no alcohol, the pore size of final morphology decreased.
