  • Recently, the traditional paradigm in railroad technology is changing as more efficient and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) technologies have emerged. The original concept of PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) proposed in the past has come to be regarded as unrealistic, but its feasibility is improving through the utilization of an EV platform. In particular, battery-powered vehicles pose difficult technical challenges in attempts to achieve reliable and efficient operation. However, based on the inductive power transfer (IPT) technology, the fast charging of supercapacitors with high energy density can contribute to overcoming this technical challenge and promote the transition to electric-powered ground transportation by improving the appearance of cities. This study discusses the development process of a power supply system for PRT, including concept design, numerical analysis, and device manufacturing, along with performance predictions and evaluations. In terms of results, the system was found to meet the performance requirements for power supply modules on a test-bed.

  • This paper proposes an efficient antenna selection scheme for PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) remote control in a wireless MIMO-OFDM systems. Using high correlation among neighboring sub-carriers, transmit antennas are selected by calculation based on the channel response of the center sub-carrier in each subgroup. This scheme reduces complexity of selection algorithm and significantly reduces the feedback channel information with small performance degradation. Especially, when feedback channel rate between a control base and a train is fixed, the proposed scheme can provide a significant advantage in high mobility.

  • In this paper, we fabricated PRT(platinum resistance thermometers) with the trimming technology using high fine laser system. U. V.(wavelength: 355nm) laser was mainly used for adjusting Pt thin films resistors to 100Ω at 0$^{\circ}C$. Internationally, the accepted A-class tolerance of temperature sensor is ${\pm}$0.06Ω at 0$^{\circ}C$. according to DIN EN 60751. The width of trimmed lines was about 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ and the best trimming conditions of Pt thin films were power : 37mW, frequency : 200Hz and bite size:1.5$\mu\textrm{m}$. And 96 resistors, fabricated by photolithography and etching process, have 79∼90Ω and 91∼102Ω as the proportion of 45.7% and 57.3%, respectively. As result of sitting Pt thin films resistors to the target value(109.73Ω at 25$^{\circ}C$), 82.3% of all resistors had the tolerance within ${\pm}$0.03Ω and the others(17.7%) were within ${\pm}$0.06Ω of A-class tolerance. The PRTs which wore fabricated in this research had excellent characteristics as follows; high accuracy, international standard TCR(temperature coefficient of resistance) value, long-term stability, wide temperature range, good linearity and repeatability, rapid response time, etc.

  • The transformation of Bacillus subtilis K-54 and J-10 was carried out with constructed vectors containing structure and enhancer genes of aprN and prtR, to increase their fibrinolytic enzyme activity. Bands for the aprN and prtR genes were identified from B. subtilis J-10 by PCR that was carried out with the constructed primers for the genes. In addition, the gene fragments contained promoter site based on the results of analysing their nucleotide sequence. The two gene fragments, aprN and prtR, obtained by the PCR, were, then, inserted to vector such as T-vector and E.coli/Bacillus shuttle vector. The constructed vector were designated as pAPR2 (aprN), pENC2 (prtR) and pFLA1 (aprN and prtR), respectively. The constructed vector was used for transformation of the strains of B.subtilis J-10 and B. subtilis K-54 and the fribrinolytic activity of the transformed strains was investigated. The introduction of the vector, pAPR2 and the fibrinolytic activity of the transformed strains was investigated. The introduction of the vector, pAPR2 and pFLA1, resulted in the increase of fibrinolyitic enzyme activity in B. subtilis J-10 by 27.3% and 16%, respectively. However, the introduction of pENC2 to B. subtilis J-10 did not seem to induce increase of the enzyme activity. The strain of B.subtilis K-54 transformed with pENC2 showed an increased fibrinolytic activity by 5 folds compared with that of the original strain of B. subtilis K-54.

  • For an automated transportation system like PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system or IVHS, an efficient vehicle-merging algorithm is required for smooth operation of the network. For management of merging, collision avoidance between vehicles, ride comfort, and the effect on traffic should be considered. This paper proposes an unmanned vehicle-merging algorithm that consists of two procedures. First, a longitudinal control algorithm is designed to keep a safe headway between vehicles in a single lane. Secondly, 'vacant slot and ghost vehicle' concept is introduced and a decision algorithm is designed to determine the sequence of vehicles entering a converging section considering energy consumption, ride comfort, and total traffic flow. The sequencing algorithm is based on fuzzy rules and the membership functions are determined first by an intuitive method and then trained by a learning method using a neural network. The vehicle-merging algorithm is shown to be effective through simulations based on a PRT model.

  • The PRT can be divided into In-Track and On-Board according to propulsion method. In process of In-Track, vehicles driven by LIMs(Linear Induction Motor) which are installed in Guideway. Central Controller, which control whole machine, must control speed and direction of all vehicles. In this case, as vehicle increases, Central Controller will overload. If Central Controller fails, all vehicle stops. To avoid this problem, processing of Central Controller must be distributed. This paper introduces method of Distributed Routing. Method of Distributed Routing will provide safety and efficiency for PRT System.

  • This paper presents a vehicle control algorithm for Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system. PRT system is a one-way direction network system which is composed of guideway branches, merging/diverging points. Vehicle control algorithm can be divided into two kinds. Those are merging control algorithm and the other. We emphasized on the merging control algorithm. For that, we first devised a front/virtual front vehicle finding strategies. Properly determined front/virtual front vehicle is the starting point of vehicle control. The objects of merging control are to avoid collision and to pass the merging point fluently. Which implies that jerk constraint and limits of acceleration and deceleration etc. are should be considered. To verify the validation of the vehicle algorithm, we executed simulations and presented test results.
