  • When varistors for circuit protection is used at high voltage, it's operation properties were unstable because of leakage current and nonlinear coefficient with grain size. For the purpose of improving of ZnO varistor properties, high voltage ZnO varistor was fabricated with Y$_2$O$_3$addition. Electrical properties were investigated according to sintering conditions and mixing conditions. ZnO varistors was shown ohmic Properties when it's applied voltage was below critical voltage. It was shown non-ohmic properties over critical voltage, because current was increased with decreasing resistance.

  • 1. Introduction : Gas transport through dense polymeric membranes is predominantly determined by the chain packing density as well as the chain flexibility. Thus, improved permeation properties can be obtained by controlling these two factors. In this work, the introduction of bulky substituents was attempted to improve permeation properties. Polysulfone, widely used material for gas separation membrane, was the starting material of this modification. Gas transport properties of resulting modified polysulfones were examined, and the improved properties were explained by probing the change of physical properties.

  • Nonlinear cross-anisotropic properties of soil is critical for exact numerical simulation. Theoretically, initial cross-anisotropic properties can be evaluated from triaxial tests with bender element tests, and nonlinear cross-anisotropic properties over initial strain level cannot be evaluated from triaxial tests. In this study, a supposed condition among nonlinear cross-anisotropic properties is suggested to calculate nonlinear cross-anisotropic properties from triaxial tests. Maximum strain and incremental strain energy are applied to combine triaxial test results and theoretical normalized shear modulus curve, respectively Based on combined results, nonlinear cross-anisotropic properties are calculated. Numerical simulation for triaxial tests Is carried out to verify the applicability of the supposed condition with calculated cross-anisotropic properties and simplified nonlinear cross-anisotropic model.

  • The HVI properites and Mantis single fiber tensile properties were analyzed to evaluate the relationship between fiber and bundle tensile properties. For this study, a new method has been developed for estimating the modulus and toughness of cotton fiber bundles directly from the HVI tenacity-elongation curves. The single fiber tensile properties were shown to be translated well into the bundle tensile properties. The single fiber breaking elongation was found to be the most significant contributing factor to bundle tensile properties. The bundle breaking elongation and toughness were shown to increase as the single fiber breaking elongation increased. The bundle modulus increased as the single fiber breaking elongation and/or standard deviation of single fiber breaking elongation decreased.

  • In this study, a more practical and simulation approach which can predict the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys is proposed. First, cooling rate, micro-structure, and mechanical properties of casting product were measured through casting experiment. The relation between cooling rate and SDAS decrease exponentially and the linearly decreasing relation exist between SDAS and mechanical properties. Then, the cooling rate was calculated by casting process simulation and the mechanical properties were predicted by using the relations that were derived through experiment. Experimentally measured mechanical properties and predicted values by simulation were in the range of relatively small difference. The mechanical properties of various Al alloys are expected to be predicted by the casting process simulation before actual casting.

  • Mechanical properties of in-service facilities are required to evaluate the integrity of power plants and chemical plants. Non-destructive technique can be used to evaluate the mechanical properties. To investigate the mechanical properties using ultrasonic technique, the four classes of thermally aged specimens were prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. Ultrasonic tests, tensile tests, fracture toughness tests, and hardness tests were performed for the specimens. Then the mechanical properties were compared with ultrasonic parameters such as attenuation and non-linear parameter. From the investigation, we confirm that the ultrasonic parameter can be used to evaluate the mechanical properties.

  • Salt water spray test and salt water immersion test were experimentally conducted in order to investigate the durability of fiber reinforced composites under salt water environment. The specimens were made of glass fabric reinforcement and phenolic resin. Mechanical test was performed to obtain mechanical properties such as tensile properties, flexural properties, and shear properties by varying with exposure times. Also dynamic mechanical test and FTIR were conducted to investigate a change in chemical structure as well as thermal analysis properties such as storage shear modulus, loss shear moduls, and tan ${\delta}$. According to the results, salt water environment has effected on mechanical properties and thermal analysis properties and especially the durability of glass fabric/phenolic composites were severely affected on salt water immersion environment rather than salt water spray environment.

  • The influence of carbide formation on mechanical properties has been investigated in carburized steels. Through controlled diffusion and precipitation processes, the morphologies of carbides could be changed and then fine, networked, and spherical shapes at carburized layers were obtained. These morphological changes affected tensile and bending fatigue properties of the steel. The fine and the spherical carbides acted as resistance sites against crack propagation, which improved the mechanical properties. However, the networked carbides deteriorated the properties because the cracks propagated along the boundaries of them. These results indicate that the morphological control of carbides is one of important keys to improve the mechanical properties.

  • Recently, it is very necessary the development of the manufacturing techniques for high strength concrete(HSC) for the large-scale size and good quality of civil structure. But, the manufacture and quality control of HSC of which shrinkage, heat of hydration and workability at construction filed are considered, is very difficult due to its low water-cement ratio and high quantity of unit cement content. In the present study, we tried to know and assess the influences of chemical and physical properties of cement on the material properties of HSC. We analyzed basic properties of 4 kinds of cement whose chemical and physical properties are different each other through various tests such as chemical analysis and mortal test. Also, we performed the assessment of the material properties of HSC for each dement by the test for the conditions of same mix design and similar compressive strength. From the results in the study, the assessment of the important quality factors of cement influencing the properties of HSC may be utilized to quality control of applied cement to manufacture the HSC of high quality.

  • This research was performed to investigate the physical and mechanical properties of Chanhoji manufactured with the traditional method. This research would provide a basic information for its application in the manufacture of Korean-style house. A piece of Changhoji was manufactured to have a weight of 3.75 g. The weight was increased with the basic weight and no increase was not found on its density. The strength properties of Changhoji are superior to a copying paper, and the quality showed the first grade in Korean Standard (KS M 7301). The air resistance varied with the thickness from 2 to 19 seconds, but it showed better performance than a copying paper having 38 seconds. This research would be used for the practical use in understanding the ventilation and lightening properties of windows and doors in Korean-style house.
