It has been proposed that the selective elimination of cancer stem cells (CSCs) using targeted therapy could greatly reduce tumor growth, recurrence, and metastasis. To develop effective therapeutic targets for CSC elimination, we aimed to define the properties of CSC mitochondria, and identify CSC-mitochondria-specific targets in colon cancer. We found that colon CSCs utilize mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) to produce ATP. We also found that forkhead box protein 1 (FOXM1)-induced peroxiredoxin 3 (PRDX3) maintains the mitochondrial function, and the FOXM1/PRDX3 mitochondrial pathway maintains survival of colon CSCs. Furthermore, FOXM1 induces CD133 (PROM1/prominin 1) expression, which maintains the stemness of colon CSCs. Together, our findings indicate that FOXM1, PRDX3, and CD133 are potential therapeutic targets for the elimination of CSCs in colon cancer.

Neonatal and obstetrical problems related to the low birth weight infants were evaluated by a retrospective review of the medical records of the 186 low birth weight infants born at Yeungnam-University Hospital during 3 years and 8 months from May 1, 1983 to February 28, 1987. The results were as follows ; 1. The incidence of the low birth weight infants was 4.98% among 3803 live births. 2. Male to female ratio was 1.02:1. 3. The incidence of the low birth weight infants was lowest in mothers of 25 to 29 years, increased in mothers of 19 years of less and 30 to 39 years significantly. 4. There was no difference in the incidence of low birth weight infants between primiparous and multiparous mothers. 5. Common obstetrical complications associated with low weight infants were multiple pregnancy, toxemia and premature rupture of membrane in order of frequency. 6. Common neonatal problems in low birth weight infants were jaundice, idiopathic respiratory, distress syndrome, asphyxia and metabolic dfrangement such as hypocalcemia and hypoglycemia in order of frequency.

Patient's primary tumor-derived tumor cell lines likely represent ideal tools for human tumor biology in vitro and in vivo. Here, we describe eight human gastric carcinoma cell lines derived from established tumors in vivo upon subcutaneous transplantation of primary gastric carcinoma specimens in BALB/c nude mice. These xenografted gastric tumor cell lines (GTX) displayed close similarity with primary gastric tumor tissues in their in vivo growth pattern and genomic alterations. GTX-085 cells were resistant to cisplatin, while GTX-087 was the most sensitive cell line. GTX-085 was the only cell line showing a metastatic potential. Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EPCAM) expression was especially strong in all tissue samples, as well as in cell cultures. GTX-139, the largest tumor graft obtained after injection, displayed distinct expression of CD44v6, fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2), and prominin 1 (PROM1, also known as CD133). In summary, we established eight xenograft gastric cancer cell lines from gastric cancer patient tissues, with their histological and molecular features consistent with those of the primary tumors. The established GTX cell lines will enable future studies of their responses to various treatments for gastric cancer.

This research explores diachronic fashion design trends through a structure analysis of a connection network based on fashion show concepts implemented by modern fashion designers from S/S 2009 to F/W 2013. The findings from this research are as follows. First, four categories affect the inspiration and thinking of design: the experience of the designer, social atmosphere and phenomena, natural sensitivity (or formative characteristics of natural objects), and the influence and quality of other fields. Second, in cases where the designers' experiences influenced design inspiration and thinking, designers express personal memories with keywords like high school, grandmother's closet, prom, beauty and the beast, heritage, past, and reminiscence through design elements such as lines, silhouettes, materials, and colors. Third, the representative example of the social atmosphere and phenomena that influenced design inspiration and thinking was the 2008 Global Financial Crisis that reflected the social climate through design concepts of keywords such as Recession, Black, Economy, US, Depression, Gray, Dark Age, White and New York. Fourth, inspired by nature and the formative characteristics in design, the designers employed ornamental elements to collections and design concepts that focused on nature words connected to light, sun, wild, dirt, rock, moss, and trees. Fifth, the designers took their ideas from different fields of personal interest in the arts, science and humanities (sports, architecture, sculpture, painting, and literature) that were decisive in determining materials, design colors and silhouettes. The theme of architecture was analyzed as a central element that had an ongoing impact on the concepts of designers.

Two rare cases of human infection with parvum (dwarf) type of Diphyllobothnum Iatum [syn. D. panpum (Stephens, 1908)], were discovered in Korea. The first case was a 46-year old housewife, from whom a kind of pseudophyllidean tapeworm eggs was detected in the feces. She was treated with praziquantel and purged, and a complete strobila with scolex, 120 cm in total length, was recovered. She recalled that she had eaten raw trouts at a raw-fish restaurant near the Chungju Lake. Another patient was a 22-year old medical student (male), who used to eat raw sea-foods. He discovered a chain of tapeworm proglottids, 15 cm in length, discharged spontaneously in his stool and brought it for identification. The worms from the two cases were compatible with D. pan)urn (Stephens, 1908) of which the taxonomic significance has long been questioned. After a detailed morphological study and review of literature, we designated the worms as D. datum prom type. This is the first report on the occurrence of this rare type of D. lotunl infection in Korea.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of FES and ankle mobilization on the ankle motion and the quality of gait of chronic hemiplegic patients with limited ankle joint motions. As research subjects, 24 chronic hemiplegic patients who could walk independently, regardless of assistive aids, were selected. Then, 8 subjects received mobilization randomly and 8 subjects received FES and 8 subjects received mobilization and FES, at the same time. The dorsiflexion PROM significantly increased in the group of mobilization therapy, mobilization and FES all together(p<.01). There were statistically significant differences among the three groups(p<.01). The 10m walking test significantly decreased in the group of mobilization therapy, mobilization and FES all together(p<.05). There were statistically significant differences among the three groups(p<.01). The gait velocity significantly increased in the group of mobilization therapy, FES therapy, mobilization and FES all together(p<.05). There were statistically significant differences among the three groups(p<.01). The stride length significantly increased in the group of mobilization therapy, mobilization and FES all together(p<.05). There were statistically significant differences among the three groups(p<.05). In conclusion, these findings demonstrate that rather than only using one treatment technique, applying mobilization and FES together brings a more satisfactory result to hemiplegic patients with limited ankle joint motions.

Objective : The aim of this study was to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine on a Intracerebral hemorrhage patient with shoulder subluxation induced shoulder pain. Method : The patient was treated with acupuncture, electroacupunture, soyeom pharmacopuncture, electrical stimulation therapy, and rehabilitation exercise. The treatment effect was evaluated through the Numeral Rating Scale(NRS), Passive Range Of Motion(PROM) and Fingerbreadth Palpation Method(FPM). Results : After 31days of Korean Medicine including acupuncture, electroacupunture, soyeom pharmacopuncture, electrical stimulation therapy, and rehabilitation exercise treatment, the pain parameters and range of motions improved. Conclusion : This study suggested that Korean medicine might be effective for shoulder pain and range of motions in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.

The next generation LID satellite has 64KB PROM which contains the boot loader and the monitor software, and two 4MB NVMEMs which are used for flight software storage. The boot loader has two operation modes which are the flight software mode and the monitor mode. In the flight software mode, it checks CRC checksum of selected NVMEM and copies flight software image from NVMEM to RAM And then it starts VxWorks RTOS in RAM, creates flight software tasks, and starts execution of flight software. In the monitor mode, it activates monitor software which performs NVMEM reprogramming and board-level testing on the ground. This paper is to present the design of Boot ROM software and verification method using simulator.

Isocyante terminated urethane prepolymers were synthesized by the reaction of 4,4'-dimethyl phenyldiisocyanate(MDI) and ester type polyols such as ethylene glycol/ butanediol adipate(EBA), neopentylglycol/butanediol adipate (NBA) and hexanediol adipate (HA) . All of the NCO-terminated urethane prepolymers are solid at room temperature, but they become mobile enough to be disposed onto a substrate upon heating about $80^{\circ}C$. Subsequently, they are solidified and cured through the reaction with moisture. Tensile behavior of the ore-thane hotmelt exhibits characteristic features depending on the type of polyol. The adhesive strength determined by single lap shear joint is higher in order of HA, NBA and EBA based ore thane hotmelt, which can be correlated with the magnitude of breaking energy of the cured films. The failure mode are cohesive for all cases and the adhesive strength increases as the test is performed faster. This indicates that the strength of the adhesive joint is primarily dependent upon the bulk properties of the adhesives.

Objectives This study is aimed to develop criteria for assessing the health level of cancer survivors through patient reported outcome based on sasang constitutional symtomology. Methods As a result of the researchers' meetings and the first round of expert group consultation, the constitutional health level assessment items that would be common to all Sasang constitutions were extracted, and constitutional health level assessment items for cancer survivors were selected. A second round of expert group consultation was conducted to determine the importance and weighting of these items for each constitution. Results & Conclusions For soeumin, the importance ranking and calculated weight were as follows: 'I had sweats even when I was not hot or exercising.(1st, 4.09)', 'I had night sweats while sleeping(2nd, 3.94)', 'I lost weight.(3rd, 3. 75)', etc. For soyangin, as follows: 'I had night sweats while sleeping.(1st, 3.08)', 'I had vomiting.(2nd, 3.02)', 'I felt hot flashes in the afternoon or at night. (3rd, 2.73)', etc. For taeumin, as follows: 'I was out of breath.(1st, 3.48)', 'My heart was pounding for no reason.(2nd, 3.45)', 'My body was swollen.(3rd, 3.22)', etc. For taeyangins, as follows: 'I couldn't urinate well.(1st, 4.49)', 'I vomited(2nd, 4.44).', 'My upper abdomen were hard.(3rd, 3. 14)', etc. Based on the results, we developed a draft of a questionnaire to assess the Sasang constitutional health level of cancer survivors, weighted for each item.
