The study on the dry etching characteristics of $CeO_2$ thin films ($CeO_2$ 박막의 건식 식각 특성 연구)

  • In this study, $CeO_2$ thin films were etched with a $CF_4/Ar$ gas combination in inductively coupled plasma (ICP), The maximum etch rate of $CeO_2$ thin films is $270{\AA}/min$under $CF_4/(CF_4+Ar)$ of 0.2, 600 W/-200 V, 15 mTorr, and $25^{\circ}C$. The selectivities of $CeO_2$ to PR and SBT are 0.21, 0.25. respectively. The surface reaction of the etched $CeO_2$ thin films was investigated with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). There is a chemical reaction between Ce and F, Compounds such as $Ce-F_x$ are remains on the surface of $CeO_2$ thin films. Those products can be removed by Ar ion bombardment effect, The results of secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) were equal to these of XPS. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine etched profiles of $Ce-F_x$ thin films. The etch profile of over-etched $CeO_2$ films with the $0.5 {\mu}m$ line was approximately $65^{\circ}$.

  • 3kW grid connected PV(photovoltaic) systems have been constructed for evaluating and analyzing performance of PV system at FDTC(field demonstration test center) in Korea, PV systems installed in FDTC have been operating and monitored since November 2002. As climatic and irradiation conditions have been varied through long-term field test, data acquisition system has been constructed for measuring performance of PV system to observe the overall effect of environmental conditions on their operation characteristics. The performance of PV systems has been evaluated and analyzed for component perspective(PV array and power conditioning system) and global perspective(system efficiency, capacity factor, and electrical power energy) by field test. By the results, it is very important to develop optimal design technology of grid connected PV system.

Effect of aspect ratio on solutally buoyancy-driven convection in mercurous chloride $(Hg_2Cl_2)$ crystal growth processes

  • For an aspect ratio (transport length-to-width) of 5, Pr = 2.89, Le = 0.018, Pe = 2.29, Cv = 1.11, $P_B$=40 Torr, solutally buoyancy-driven convection $(Gr_s=3.03{\times}10^5)$ due to the disparity in the molecular weights of the component A $(Hg_2Cl_2)$ and B (He) is stronger than thermally buoyancy-driven convection $(Cr_t=1.66{\times}10^4)$. The crystal growth rate is decreased exponentially for $2.5\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$, with (1) the linear temperature profile and a fixed temperature difference, (2) the imposed thermal profile, a fixed crystal region and varied temperature difference. This is related to the finding that the effects of side walls tend to stabilize convection in the growth reactor. But, with the imposed thermal profile, a fixed source region and varied temperature difference, the rate is increased far $2\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;3$, and remains nearly unchanged for $3\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$.

Effect of accelerational perturbations on physical vapor transport crystal growth under microgravity environments

  • For $P_B=50,\;{\Delta}T=10K$, Ar=5, Pr=2.36, Le=0.015, Pe=1.26, Cv=1.11, the intensity of solutal convection (solutal Grashof number $Grs=3.44x10^4$) is greater than that of thermal convection (thermal Grashof number $Grt=1.81x10^3$) by one order of magnitude, which is based on the solutally buoyancy-driven convection due to the disparity in the molecular weights of the component A($Hg_2Cl_2$) and B(He). With increasing the partial pressure of component B from 10 up to 200 Torr, the rate is decreased exponentially. The convective transport decreases with lower g level and is changed to the diffusive mode at 0.1 $g_0$. In other words, for regions in which the g level is 0.1 $g_0$ or less, the diffusion-driven convection results in a parabolic velocity profile and a recirculating cell is not likely to occur. Therefore a gravitational acceleration level of less than 0.1 $g_0$ can be adequate to ensure purely diffusive transport.

Effect of drying temperature on the electrical and structural properties of YMnO$_3$ thin film (건조 온도에 따른 YMnO$_3$ 박막의 구조 및 전기적 특성)

  • YMnO$_3$ thin films were spun-coated on the Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates by sol-gel process using alkoxides, and then dried on hot plates from 300 to 450 $^{\circ}C$. The prepared YMnO$_3$ thin films were annealed at 850 $^{\circ}C$ in O$_2$ atmosphere for 1 h. The crystallization of YMnO$_3$ thin films were improved to preferred c-axis orientation and the dielectric characteristics were progressed by increasing the drying temperature. The range of dielectric constant of thin film dried at 450 $^{\circ}C$ is 12.9-22.3 and close to that of YMnO$_3$ single crystal. The ferroelecrtic property of YMnO$_3$ thin film was observed on the YMnO$_3$ films. The maximum remnant polarization (2Pr) of YMnO$_3$ thin films dried at 450 $^{\circ}C$ was about 2.91 ${\mu}$ C/cm2. It was suggested that the drying temperature affect to the initial stage of thin film growth of preferred c-axis orientation.

An acoustical analysis of synchronous English speech using automatic intonation contour extraction (영어 동시발화의 자동 억양궤적 추출을 통한 음향 분석)

  • This research mainly focuses on intonational characteristics of synchronous English speech. Intonation contours were extracted from 1,848 utterances produced in two different speaking modes (solo vs. synchronous) by 28 (12 women and 16 men) native speakers of English. Synchronous speech is found to be slower than solo speech. Women are found to speak slower than men. The effect size of speech rate caused by different speaking modes is greater than gender differences. However, there is no interaction between the two factors (speaking modes vs. gender differences) in terms of speech rate. Analysis of pitch point features has it that synchronous speech has smaller Pt (pitch point movement time), Pr (pitch point pitch range), Ps (pitch point slope) and Pd (pitch point distance) than solo speech. There is no interaction between the two factors (speaking modes vs. gender differences) in terms of pitch point features. Analysis of sentence level features reveals that synchronous speech has smaller Sr (sentence level pitch range), Ss (sentence slope), MaxNr (normalized maximum pitch) and MinNr (normalized minimum pitch) but greater Min (minimum pitch) and Sd (sentence duration) than solo speech. It is also shown that the higher the Mid (median pitch), the MaxNr and the MinNr in solo speaking mode, the more they are reduced in synchronous speaking mode. Max, Min and Mid show greater speaker discriminability than other features.

  • Bisphenol-A and related conpounds recently have been reported to be estrogenic since it has been demonstrared in laboratory stuides that they mimic the effects of estrogen. Bisphenol-A refered to as "environmental estrogen" are suspected of causing health effect in living body through disruption of endocdrine system. In this review, the occurrence, environmental fate, and biological effects of bisphenol-A are presented. To provide understanding to the potential for endocrine disruption due to environmental estrogen, the physiology of bisphenol-A mammalian and fish is also reviewed. For empty can, the migrationof bisphenol-A form food conducted epoxy coating was effected by the test conditions and it increased in order to water and 4% acetic acid. Extracts from foods packed in lacquer coated can also showed estrogenic activity. Bisphenol-A was found as a contaminant not only in the liquid food cans, but also in water autoclave in can. The used of coating certain food-packaging material may require closer scrutiny to determine when bisphenol-A contribute to advert exposure of consumers to estrogenic xenobiotics. Human breast cancer MCF cell added bisphenol-A cultivated to study the ability of bisphenol-A to elicit of bisphenol-A estrogenic bioresponse in this system. Bisphenol-A, similar to estradiol, induced PR activation in transiently transfected anterior and posterior pituitary cells.

Preparation of Ferroelectric PZT Thin Film by Sol-Gel Processing; (III) Effect of Rapid Thermal Annealing on Microstructures and Dielectric Properties (솔-젤법에 의한 강유전성 PZT 박막의 제조;(III) 급속열처리방법이 미세구조 및 유전특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Sol-Gel derived ferroelectric PZT thin films were fabricated on ITO/Glass substrate. Two kinds of rapid thermal annealing methods, R-I (six times of intermediate and final annealing) and R-II (one final annealing after six times of intermediate annealing) were used for preparation of multi-coated PZT thin films. 2500$\AA$-thick PZT thin films were obtained by the R-I and R-II methods and characterized by microstructure and dielectric properties. In case of using R-II, the microstructure was finer than that of R-I and there was no distinguishable difference in dielectric properties of PZT thin films between the R-I and R-II methods. But dielectric properties were enhanced by increasing perovskite phase fraction with increasing annealing temperature. Measured dielectric constant of PZT thin film annealed at 62$0^{\circ}C$ using the R-I method was 256 at 1kHz. Its remanant polarization (Pr) and coercive field (Ec) were 14.4$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 64kV/cm, respectively.

Ferroelectric Properties of Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 Thin Films with Eu Contents for Non-volatile Memory Device Application (비휘발성 메모리 소자응용을 위한 Eu 첨가량에 따른 BET 박막의 강유전 특성)

  • The effect of Eu contents on the ferroelectric properties of $Bi_{4-x}Eu_xTi_3 O_{12}$ (BET) thin films has been investigated. Bismuth Europium titanate thin films with a Eu contents were prepared on the $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by metal-organic decomposition technique. The structure and the morphology of the films were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. From the XRD analysis, it was found that BET thin films have polycrystalline structure, and the layered-perovskite phase is obtained when the Eu contents exceeds 0.2 (x > 0.2). Also, the ferroelectric characteristics of the BET thin films were found to be dependent on the Eu content. Particularly, the BET films doped with x = 0.75 show better ferroelectric properties (remanent polarization 2Pr = 60.99 C/$cm^2$ and only a little polarization fatigue up to $3.5{\times}10^9$ bipolar switching cycling) than those doped with other Eu contents.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF LASER WELD POOL GEOMETRY USING ENTHALPY METHOD (엔탈피 모델을 이용한 레이저 용융풀 형상에 대한 수치해석연구)

  • Laser welding is widely used in the industry for the advantage of small heat affected zone and short weld process time. Conduction limit welding can be used to modify the surface characteristic and it is important to identify the heat affecting area correctly for the improvement of manufacturing accuracy. Since time and length scale associated with laser welding process are extremely small, numerical study can be a useful tool. In this study, two-dimensional axi-symmetric version of energy equation with enthalpy method has been used to analyze the effect of laser input conditions on final shape by the laser welding process. The proposed numerical procedure has been benchmarked with several experimental results and compared well. The modified Marangoni and Peclet number have been introduced using controllable input variables. Simple parametric researches have been performed for high Pr number material. The results show that higher Marangoni number increase fluid mixing, thus generating convex type weld pool. On the other hand, the width of the weld pool is proportional to Peclet number.
