Analysis of M-ary Antipodal Communication System for Multiple Access in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN에서 다중접속을 위한 M진 Antipodal 초광대역 통신 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • Ultra Wideband (UWB) system uses wide band signal, which power spectral density likes as a noise floor, so UWB system can be used high speed communication without interfering with other communication system. As this system doesn't use radio frequency carrier. Its structure would be very simple and consume very low power. For the first time, we adopted Rayleigh monopulse multiple access system. And under the AWGN, we analysis and compare error probability, the number of user and data rate of the two methods that pulse position modulation and antipodal. In the result, We concluded that the antipodal method had much better probability of error, the number of user and data rate than PPM.

Ginger Extract as Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Steel in Sulfide Polluted Salt Water

  • Extract of ginger has been evaluated as a green inhibitor for the corrosion of steel in sulfide polluted NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed that this extract acts as a mixed type inhibitor but mainly inhibits the cathodic reaction. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with inhibitor concentration reaching to approximately 83.9% using 250 ppm of ginger. Nyquist plots show a single capacitive loop in uninhibited and inhibited solutions. From EFM the causality factors are very close to theoretical values which indicate that the measured data are of good quality. The adsorption process of the studied extract on steel surface obeys Temkin adsorption isotherm. The results obtained from the different electrochemical techniques were in good agreement which prove the validity of these tools in measurement of corrosion rate. Ginger extract has no effect on Escherichia Coli and can be applied safely on waste water treatment plants.

Bandgap Voltage Reference Circuit Design Technology Suitable for Driving Large OLED Display Panel (대형 OLED 디스플레이 패널 구동에 적합한 밴드갭 레퍼런스 회로 설계 및 결과)

  • In this paper, a CMOS bandgap voltage reference that is not sensitive to changes in the external environment is presented. Large OLED display panels need high supply voltage. MOSFET devices with high voltage are sensitive to the output voltage due to the channel length modulation effect. The self-cascode circuit was applied to the bandgap reference circuit. Simulation results show that the maximum output voltage change of the basic circuit is 77mV when the supply voltage is changed from 10.5V to 13.5V, but the proposed circuit change is improved to 0.0422mV. The improved circuit has a low temperature coefficient of $9.1ppm/^{\circ}C$ when changing the temperature from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $140^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the proposed circuit can be used as a reference voltage source for circuits that require a high supply voltage.

Effects of Pd Nanoparticles on Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes as High-Sensitivity Hydrogen Gas Sensors (덴드리머와 팔라듐 나노입자를 이용한 단일벽 탄소나노튜브 고성능수소센서)

  • Pd nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully functionalizedon the surfaces of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by dendrimer-mediated synthesis. The hydrogen sensing properties of the Pd NPs functionalized SWNTs were investigated. Pd NPs-dendrimer-SWNTs sensors show much better speedsand superior recovery rates but lower sensitivity compared to Pd NPs-functionalized SWNTs directly fabricated due to the existence of dendrimers. Pyrolysis of the dendrimers by heat treatment resulted in a fast response time and high sensitivity owing to the reduced length of the dendrimers. These results demonstrate that the heat treatment of dendrimers in Pd NPs-dendrimer-SWNTs sensors can enable significant electrical conductance modulation upon exposure to extremely low concentrations (10 ppm) of hydrogen gas ($H_2$) in air.

Regulation of LPS-induced Nitric Oxide Synthase Activity by Cigarette Smoke in Mouse Brain

  • Nitric oxide(nitrogen monoxide, NO) plays important physiological roles, but excessive generation can be toxic. NO is present in cigarette smoke at up to 1,000 ppm, and probably represents one of the greatest exogenous sources of NO to which humans are exposed. We investigated whether cigarette smoking reduces the production of endogenous NO and whether it influences the action of lipopolysaccharide(LPS) to induce nitric oxide synthase activity in mouse brain. Mice(C57BL6/J) were exposed to cigarette smoke for 8 weeks. LPS was injected intraperitoneally in single or combination with the exposure to cigarette smoke. Six hours after the injection of LPS, mice were sacrificed and sera and brains were collected. Serum concentrations of nitrate and nitrite were not charged by 4-week smoke exposure, but were significantly increased by 6 and 8 weeks of smoke exposure. Interestingly, cigarette smoke reduced the elevation in serum nitrate and nitrite concentrations produced by LPS after 4-week smoking exposure. NO synthase(NOS) activity in brain was upregulated by LPS-administration. However, cigarette smoke exposure remarkably and consistently decreased the LPS-induced activity in mouse brain. This result suggests that cigarette smoking may affect against overproduction of the endogenous NO by LPS through the inhibition of NOS activity induced by LPS in brain or by modulation of the LPS action for the induction of NOS activity. We also suggest the possibility that the exogenous NO evolved in cigarette smoke enables feedback inhibition of NOS activity or other possibility that it attenuates the toxicity of endotoxin LPS in vivo by unknown mechanisms, which should be further studied.

  • 식물공장 내 작물의 생육은 제공되는 인공광원의 광원 및 광질에 영향을 받으며, 광흡수 파장에 따라 다르다. 또한 광합성에 효과적인 형태의 빛의 계속적인 빛의 조사보다는 광 펄스를 조절하여 공급하여 준다면 더욱더 효과적인 생육 환경을 제공해 줄 수 있다. 식물의 최적 생장을 위해 특정 파장대의 빛을 선택적으로 조사할 수 있는 LED특성을 사용하여 UV광원을 포함한 인공광원의 펄스폭 변조에 따른 적치마 상추의 생육특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 광환경은 Red(660 nm), Blue(450 nm), UV(395 nm) LED를 8:1:1 비율로 광량 $160{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 주파수 1.25, 2.5, 3.75, 5.0 kHz로 조사하여 주었으며, 온도 $20{\sim}23^{\circ}C$, 습도 50~60%, $CO_2$농도 1,000 ppm으로 조성하여 주었다. 아시아종묘 적치마상추를 파종 후 18일 째 되는날 정식, 정식 후 14일 28일 째 되는날 SPAD, 지상부 지하부의 생체중 및 건물중, 엽폭, 엽장을 측정하였으며, 측정한 엽폭과 엽장을 이용하여 엽형지수 산출, 지상부 지하부 생체중 값을 이용하여 S/R율을 산출하였다. SPAD 측정결과 생육시기가 증가할수록 SPAD함량은 감소하였으며, 1.25와 2.5 kHz에서 생육 시기 증가에 대한 SPAD함량 감소가 컸고, 3.75와 5.0 kHz의 경우 SPAD함량의 감소량은 작았다. 지상부 생체중은 3.75 kHz에서 121.51 g으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈으며, 2.5, 1.75, 5.0 kHz 순으로 높은 값을 나타났다. 지하부 생체중의 경우 3.75 kHz에서 31.31 g으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈으며 2.5, 5.0, 1.25 kHz 순으로 높게 나타났다. 엽형지수는 생육 시기가 증가에 따라 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, 1.75, 2.5, 5.0, 3.75 kHz 순으로 크게 나타났다. 지상부 건물중 측정결과는 지상부 생체중 결과와, 지하부 건물중의 측정결과는 지하부 생체중 결과와 동일하였다. S/R율은 1.75 kHz를 제외하고 생육시기가 증가할수록 S/R율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, 주파수가 높아질수록 S/R율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 엽형지수는 엽폭/엽장으로 엽형지수를 산출한 결과로 값이 작을수록 엽폭이 넓은 형태를 의미하며, 생체중값이 가장 크게 나타났던 3.75 kHz에서 엽형지수의 값이 가장 낮게 나타났으며 3.75 kHz를 제외하고 주파수가 높을수록 엽형지수의 값이 낮게 나타났다. 이에 주파수에 따른 적상추의 생육은 3.75 kHz에서 가장 좋은 것으로 판단할 수 있었다.

Pd nanoparticles on poly(amidoamine) dendrimers modified single-walled carbon nanotubes as highly sensitive hydrogen gas sensors

  • In order to overcome the lack of reactivity with hydrogen gas ($H_2$) and utilize unique properties of Carbon Nano Tubes (CNTs) for the application to hydrogen sensors, there have been intensive works on the surface functionalization of CNTs with various types of nanoparticles including Pd. In the present work, we have investigated the effect of dendrimers and Pd nanoparticles to the hydrogen sensing properties of CNTs by comparing three types of samples: Pd/SWNTs (Sample I), Pd/dendrimer/SWNTs (Sample II) and heat-treated Pd/dendrimers/SWNTs (Sample III). As a result of IV measurement under the $H_2$ and air, sample I was found to have a high sensitivity (25%) to $H_2$, but to have a very slow response time (324 s) and recovery rate. On the other hand, Sample II was found to show much faster response time (3 s) and good recovery rate but lower sensitivity (8.6%) than Sample I which is due to induced dipole moments in the dendrimers. Interestingly, Sample III showed both fast response time (7 s) and high sensitivity (25%), indicating that the pyrolysis of the dendrimers during heat treatment which reduce the distance between the surface of the SWNTs and the functionalized Pd nanoparticles plays a key role in improving the sensitivity. The pyrolysis of the dendrimers in Pd nanoparticle-dendrimer-SWNTs was found to enable a significant electrical conductance modulation upon exposure to extremely low concentrations (10 ppm) of $H_2$ in air. Our results demonstrate that the Pd Nanoparticle-Grafted Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes(SWNTs) with Dendrimers can be used to detect hydrogen, makingoutstanding properties such as fast response, and recovery time, high sensitivity, low detection limit at room temperature compared with other types of hydrogen sensors.
