For the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries, it is essential to develop a solid electrolyte that can be operable at room temperature, and it is necessary to manufacture all-solid-state batteries by adopting materials with high ionic conductivity. Therefore, in order to increase the ionic conductivity of the existing oxide-based solid, Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) doped with heterogeneous elements was used as a filler material (Al and Nb-LLZO). An electrolyte with garnet-type inorganic filler doped was prepared. The binary metal element and the polymer mixture of poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(propylene carbonate) (PEO/PPC) (1:1) are uniformly manufactured at a ratio of 1:2.4, The electrochemical performance was tested at room temperature and 60 ℃ to verify room temperature operability of the all-solid-state battery. The prepared composite electrolyte shows improved ionic conductivity derived from co-doping of the binary elements, and the PPC helps to improve the ionic conductivity, thereby increasing the capacity of all-solid-state batteries at room temperature as well as 60 ℃. It was confirmed that the capacity retention rate was improved.

There has been a growing demand for water based-type PSA due to environmental regulations for solvent-type PSA. And accordingly, there is a growing expectation as well for tackifiers used to compensate for the problem of deterioration of physical properties. Therefore, In this study, water-based tackifiers were synthesized by changing the contents of hard and functional acrylic monomers CHMA, IBOA, and AA. And these were added to the pressure-sensitive adhesive at 10 phr and their physical properties were compared. Tackiness slightly decreased as CHMA increased and IBOA decreased. Since the intermolecular bonding force increased due to the increase in AA content, the lower the AA content showed better results. Peel strength increased as the tackifiers were added because the fluidity of the polymer chain increased. And higher AA content showed better results because more hydrogen bonds were formed. The holding power tended to decrease as CHMA increased because the content of IBOA relatively decreased which has a large influence on the holding power. And higher AA content showed better results.

This study performed 4-point flexural tests of reinforced concrete to which was attached a distributed optical fiber sheet and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets in order to assess the effect of the CFRP sheets and the applicability of a BOTDR sensor simultaneously. To evaluate the reinforcing effect, various degrees of CFRP sheet attachment were manufactured, and to evaluate the sensing ability, strains obtained from a BOTDR sensor were compared with strains measured from electric resistance strain gauges that were attached to the concrete surface. From the results, the reinforcing effects were evidently different according to the attachment type of the CFRP sheets, and it was confirmed that the main influencing factor on the reinforcing effect was the type of attachment rather than the attachment area. The reinforced concrete structural behavior was visualized with strains measured from the BOTDR sensor as load increased, and it was identified that load was concentrated in the CFRP reinforced area. Strains from the BOTDR sensor were similar to those from the electric resistance strain gauge; thereby a BOTDR sensor can be effective in the analysis of structural behaviorsof massive infrastructure. Finally, the strain from a BOTDR sensor was high where CFRP sheet fall-off occurs, and it would therefore be efficient to track local damage locations of CFRP sheets by utilizing a BOTDR sensor.
Hydrogen, a carrier of large-capacity chemical and clean energy, is an important industrial gas widely used in the petrochemical industry and fuel cells. In particular, hydrogen is mainly produced from fossil fuels through steam reforming and gasification, and carbon dioxide is generated as a by-product. Therefore, in order to obtain high-purity hydrogen, carbon dioxide should be removed. This review focused on free-standing polymeric membranes and mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) that separate hydrogen from carbon dioxide reported in units of Barrer [1 Barrer = 10-10 cm3 (STP) × cm / (cm2 × s × cmHg)]. By analyzing various recently reported papers, the structure, morphology, interaction, and preparation method of the membranes are discussed, and the structure-property relationship is understood to help find better membrane materials in the future. Robeson's upper bound limits for hydrogen/carbon dioxide separation were presented through reviewing the performance and characteristics of various separation membranes, and various MMMs that improve separation properties using technologies such as crosslinking, blending and heat treatment were discussed.
In this study, the hydrophilicity of the metal fiber is improved by introducing an oxygen-containing functional group to the fiber surface after treatment of the metal fiber using the oxygen plasma treatment time as an experimental variable. For the surface modification of metal fibers, changes in surface properties before and after plasma treatment were observed using SEM and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In order to observe the effect of the plasma treatment time on the surface of the metal fiber, the change in contact angle of the metal fiber with respect to a polar solvent and a non-polar solvent was measured. After calculating the change in surface free energy using the measured contact angle, the contact angle and the surface free energy for metal fibers before and after oxygen plasma treatment were compared, and the correlation with the adhesion work was also considered. The microdroplet specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of surface changes of these metal fibers on the improvement of shear strength at the interface when combined with other materials and the interfacial shear strength was measured, and the correlation with the adhesion work was also identified. Therefore, the oxygen plasma treatment of the metal fiber results in an increase in the physical surface area on the fiber surface and a change in contact angle and surface energy according to the introduction of the oxygen-containing functional group on the surface. This surface hydrophilization resulted in improving the interfacial shear strength with the polymer resin.

Generally, solvent-type coatings generate a large amount of volatile organic chemicals(VOC), which are carcinogenic substances, in the manufacturing process, and their use is regulated due to environmental problems. There is also the problem of resource depletion due to limited fossil fuels. Therefore, in this study, UV-curable urethane acrylate oligomers were synthesized with different contents of isosorbide, which is a biomass material, and proceeded to evaluate the physical properties of coatings. As the isosorbide contents increased, the viscosity, glass transition temperature, tensile strength, stain resistance, and pencil hardness increased, but elongation and flexibility decreased, and BOI-3 showed the best adhesion. The isosorbide content of the oligomer fixed at 20%, UV-curable urethane acrylate oligomer was synthesized according to the content ratio of polycaprolactone diol(PCL) and Ecoprol H1000(Ecoprol). As the PCL/Ecoprol content ratio increased, the glass transition temperature, elongation, and flexibility increased, but the tensile strength and pencil hardness decreased. It was confirmed that the adhesion and stain resistance increased by improving the surface bonding strength of PCL. All films of oligomers synthesized were transparent without discoloration.
Ultrasound brain stimulation is spot-lighted by its capability of inducing brain cell activation in a localized deep brain region and ultimately treating impaired brain function while the efficiency and directivity of neural modulation are highly dependent on types of stimulus waveforms. Therefore, to optimize the types of stimulation parameters, we propose a cell-cultivable ultrasonic transducer having a series stack of a spin-coated polymer piezoelectric element (Poly-vinylidene fluoride-trifluorethylene, PVDF-TrFE) and a parylene insulating layer enhancing output acoustic pressure on a glass-coverslip which is commonly used in culturing cells. Due to the uniformity and high accuracy of stimulus waveform, tens of neuronal cell responses located on the transducer surface can be recorded simultaneously with fluorescence microscopy. By averaging the cell response traces from tens of cells, small changes to the low intensity ultrasound stimulations can be identified. In addition, the reduction of stimulus distortions made by standing wave generated from reflections between the transducers and other strong reflectors can be achieved by placing acoustic absorbers. Through the proposed ultrasound transducer, we could successfully observe the calcium responses induced by low-intensity ultrasound stimulation of 6 MHz, 0.2 MPa in astrocytes cultured on the transducer surface.
The smoke properties of some plastics were investigated, including polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polyacetal. For smoke density, related values of static smoke characteristics were measured using a smoke density tester according to ISO 5659-2. In addition, combustion with and without flame was measured independently. Under the condition of radiant heat of 50 kW/m2 using the flame method, the measured value of the maximum specific optical density (Dm) of smoke showed the lowest value for PMMA (401.26) and the highest value for PVC (1345.04). In addition, PMMA (262.82) was the lowest and PVC (1385.43) was the highest in the measured Dm of smoke under the condition of radiant heat of 50 kW/m2 in the non-flame method. Smoke generation during combustion of the object is significantly affected by the radiant heat flux, and carbonizable plastics showed a higher amount of smoke than non-carbonizable plastics during combustion. Polymers with aromatic groups in the main polymer chain generated a large amount of smoke because a large amount of char was generated due to thermal decomposition.
In this study, the feasibility of laser patterning on the surface of food packaging polymer film was confirmed, and the surface patterning process conditions of femtosecond laser were established. In addition, it was proved that the surface properties of the film can be changed and controlled through the fabrication of various patterned films on the surface of food packaging films such as HDPE, PP, and PET. Various patterned surfaces, including large-scale circular patterns induced by a single femtosecond laser pulse, roughness patterns achieved by overlapping single pulses by 30%, straight line patterns, roughness patterns obtained by overlapping straight line patterns, and grid patterns formed by intersecting straight line patterns were fabricated. The characteristics of the patterned HDPE, PP, and PET films, based on the surface pattern structure and size, were analyzed using SEM, AFM, and contact angle measurements. Compared to the surface of each control film without femtosecond laser patterning, the contact angles of the surfaces of large-area circular patterning HDPE and PP films, large-area roughness patterning HDPE and PP films by overlapping 30% of single pulses, and large-area roughness patterning PET film by overlapping rectilinear patterning were in the range of 27.1-37.5 degree. This indicated that the HDPE, PP, and PET films became more hydrophilic after patterning. On the other hand, the HDPE film patterned with a large-scale grid pattern exhibited a contact angle of 120.4 degree, indicating that the HDPE film became more hydrophobic after patterning. Therefore, films that have been changed to hydrophilic surfaces through patterning can be used in anti-fouling applications where proteins, cells, viruses, and other food materials do not adhere or are easily detached. In addition, if a superhydrophobic surface of 150 degrees or more is fabricated through more precise lattice patterning in the future, it will be possible to use it for superhydrophobic surface applications such as self-cleaning.
In this study, natural surfactants were extracted from Medicago sativa L. The O/W emulsification processes with the extracted natural surfactants were optimized using central composite design model-response surface methodology (CCD-RSM) and a 95% confidence interval was used to confirm the reasonableness of the optimization. Herein, independent parameters were the ratio of saponins to total surfactant (P), amount of surfactant (W), and emulsification speed (R), whereas the reaction parameters were the emulsion stability index (ESI), mean droplet size (MDS), and viscosity (V). Using the multiple reaction, the optimal conditions for the ratio of saponins to total surfactant, amount of surfactant, and emulsification speed for O/W emulsification were 49.5%, 9.1 wt%, and 6559.5 rpm, respectively. Under these optimal conditions, the expected values of ESI, MDS, and V as the reaction parameters were 89.9%, 1058.4 nm, and 1522.5 cP, respectively. The values of ESI, MDS, and V from these expected values were 88.7%, 1026.4 nm, and 1486.5 cP, respectively, and the average experimental error for validating the accuracy was about 2.3 (± 0.4)%. Therefore, it was possible to design an optimization process for evaluating the O/W emulsion process with Medicago sativa L. using CCD-RSM.
