Study on Effective Sensing Algorithm for Distinction between DTV and CR Systems (DTV와 CR 시스템의 구별을 위한 효과적 알고리즘)

  • Cognitive radio (CR), which is proposed as a technology that utilizes the frequency resources effectively, has studied to relive scarcity of the frequency resources. Also, FCC revises the regulation to reuse the TV white spaces for applying CR system and allows to use the TV white spaces by CR devices and use of CR device may be regularized after conversion by DTV in 2009. If CR system's signal appeared in pilot's position, pilot sensing performs false alarm detection because pilot sensing scheme confuse DTV signal and CR system. In order to improve false alarm detection, we propose distinction scheme between DTV and CR system using PN511 sequence in this paper.

Reception performance improvement of VSB in multipath channel using switched beamforming (선택 빔형성을 적용한 다중경로 환경 VSB 수신 성능 개선)

  • We propose a switched beamforming to improve the reception performance of VSB system in severe Rayleigh fading channel. The VSB system has only about 3% of known training signal for the receiver in a data field and the reception performance of VSB receiver is degraded significantly when there are near-0 dB ghosts in receiving signal. The switched beamforming forms several beams in different directions and selects only one beam among them. For the selection of a beam with best channel condition for VSB equalizer, we extracted the channel profiles in time domain for all the beams by correlating the PN511 sequence in VSB field sync and selected optimal beam by comparing the channel profiles. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves the reception performance of VSB system in severe Rayleigh channel.

  • Recently, many research initiatives have been underway to improve reception performance of ATSC based DTV signal in mobile channel by adopting multiple antennas. In this paper, we propose a new mobile channel model which can be applicable to any array geometry. And then we propose new channel estimation algorithm which uses PN5l1 sequence in field synch. The proposed algorithm is to estimate channel by correlating the input signal in If frequency band and finding maximum peak, which does not need complicated synchronization circuit. Finally, we propose new receiver structures which can be implemented at the front-end of the existing receiver with no modification. With computer simulation, we verify the performance of the proposed model and verify the performance of the receiver structure with computer simulation.
