  • The purpose of this study is to calculate atmospheric environmental capacity for $PM_{10}$, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ using a rollback model in Chungju. From the results of this study, the source contributions for $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ was the following order: line source > area source > point source. However, the source contributions for $SO_2$ was the following: point source > area source > line source. While the atmospheric environmental capacity of $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ was enough to meet the regional air quality target, $PM_{10}$ emission needs to be reduced by 5%.

  • In Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, there are not only power plants and large steel complexes, but also small and medium-sized air pollutant emission facilities. The dust generated by these facilities has a very small particle size and a large surface area due to condensation and physical and chemical reactions, and is discharged containing various harmful substances. Therefore, this study analyzed the distribution of particulate matter and heavy metal concentrations by particle size in the vicinity of the steel complex, residential area, and reference point using an eight-stage Cascade Impactor. Overall, the direct impact sites with a short distance from the steel complex had the highest concentration, followed by the indirect impact sites, and the non-impact sites had the lowest concentration, indicating that they are directly affected by the steel complex. The atmospheric dust concentration distribution showed a bimodal distribution with a minimum value around the 1.1 to 2.1 ㎛ particle diameter. However, during the yellow dust event, the maximum concentration was biased toward coarse particles. The proportion of PM2.5 in the dust tended to be higher in winter, while the ratio between PM2.5 and PM10 was relatively higher in spring. Regardless of the location of the impact point, heavy metals in the dust were dominated by iron and aluminum, followed by zinc, lead, and manganese.

  • Computer-assisted motional analysis is a popular method in biomechanical studies. Validation of the specific system and its measurement are fundamental to its application in the areas. Because the accuracy and consistency of a particular system provide the researchers with critical information to assist in making judgements regarding the degree to which inferences can be drawn from measurement data. The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy and consistency of the Kwon3D motion analysis system. Validation parameters were five lengths from eight landmarkers in combination with the DLT reconstruction error values, digitizing monitor resolutions, and numbers of control points. With the best setting, Kwon3D's estimations of 260cm, 200cm, 140cm, 100cm, and 20cm were $260.33{\pm}.688cm$, $199.98{\pm}.625cm$, $139.89{\pm}.537cm$, $99.75{\pm}.466cm$, $20.08{\pm}.114$, respectively. There was no significant DLT error value difference between two monitor resolutions, but 0.27cm significant difference in 260cm estimation. There were significant differences in 260cm and 200cm estimations between with 33-control-point DLT error and with 17-control-point DLT error, but no in 140cm, 100cm, and 20cm estimations. Test-retest results showed that Kwon3D measurements were highly consistent with reliability coefficients alpha of .9263 and above.

  • Background: Many options are available to cover a palatal defect, including local or free flaps. The objective of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of palatal mucoperiosteal island flap in covering a palatal defect after tumor excision. Methods: Between October 2006 and July 2013, we identified 19 patients who underwent palatal reconstruction using a palatal mucoperiosteal island flap after tumor excision. All cases were retrospectively analyzed by defect location, size, tumor pathology, type of reconstruction, and functional outcomes. Speech and swallowing functions were evaluated using a 7-point visual analog scale (VAS) score. Results: Among the 19 patients, there were 7 men and 12 women with an age range of 25 to 74 years (mean, $52.5{\pm}14.3$ years). The size of flaps was $2-16cm^2$ (mean, $9.4{\pm}4.2cm^2$). Either unilateral or bilateral palatal island flaps were used depending on the size of defect. During the follow-up period (mean, $32.7{\pm}21.4$ months), four patients developed a temporary oronasal fistula, which healed without subsequent operative. The donor sites were well re-epithelized. Speech and swallowing function scores were $6.63{\pm}0.5$ and $6.58{\pm}0.69$ on the 7-point VAS, indicating the ability to eat solid foods and communicate verbally without significant disability. Conclusion: The palatal mucoperiosteal island flap is a good reconstruction modality for palatal defects if used under appropriate indications. The complication rates and donor site morbidity are low, with good functional outcomes.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of increase in barbell weight on closely related variable to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which are knee joint kinematics, joint load, joint moment, and maximum load attainment point during snatch of the weight lifting. Method: The subjects of the study were 10 male Korean national weight lifting athletes (69 kg 5, 77 kg 5; age: $21.80{\pm}3.91yrs.$, height: $168.00{\pm}4.06cm$, weight: $75.00{\pm}4.02kg$, career: $7.8{\pm}3.99yrs.$, snatch records: $168{\pm}4.06kg$). The weight of the barbell during the snatch operation was set at 70%, 75% and 80% of the highest records for each subject studied. Results: The result obtained from the one-way repeated measure ANOVA are as follows: With increased barbell weight, the extension moment of the left knee joint was higher in the 80% condition than the 70% (p<.001). However, other variables were not statistically significant difference. According to the factor analysis of the variables related to maximum load attainment point of the ACL major injury variables, the first sub-factor was the internal shear force, the posterior shear force, the abduction moment, and the muscle activity of the VL. The second sub-factor was the extension moment of the knee joint, compressive force, adduction moment, and the third sub-factor was the muscle activity of BF. Conclusion: These results indicate that the possibility of ACL injury can be lowered when performing a stable snatch movement.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of body fat on energy metabolic response and subjective sensations under the hot environment. Fifteen female university students volunteered as subjects. We organized subjects into three groups: low body fat group(group L : less than 20% of body fat), medium body fat group(group M : 20%~30% of body fat) and high body fat group(group H: more than 30% of body fat). The experiment was conducted with $32^{\circ}C$, 60%RH. The subjects repeated 'Exercise' and 'Rest' period. The results of this study are as follows ; The oxygen uptake value of AM is higher than PM. The value of group H is the highest in three fat groups. But it showed group L is the highest in oxygen uptake per weight. %body fat is the lower, oxygen uptake is the higher. In Calorie, group L has higher value in AM in than in PM. In M group and group H, a value of PM is higher than AM. In group H, difference of AM and PM is the highest. From a view point of three groups, a value of group H is the highest. This support that calorie increases as oxygen uptake increase. The heart rate values of group L and group H are the higher in AM than in PM. This support that heart rate was relation to oxygen uptake. In all three groups, the value of blood pressure is higher in AM than in PM. Subjective sensations of temperature sensation, thermal comfort, and wetness sensation are higher in Am than in Pm. This explains that subject sensations are similar to experimental data, such as oxygen uptake, heart rate, blood pressure. In oxygen uptake, heart rate and blood pressure, general tend to showed higher AM than PM. This showed that heart rate, oxygen uptake increase in AM, as blood pressure increase, too. From a view point of %body fat, group H is higher than the others in oxygen uptake, heart rate and blood pressure.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of linear polarized near-infrared ray radiation on experimental pain threshold in healthy adult subjects. Thirty healthy adult subjects were divided into 5 groups: 1) group 1, super lizer radiation at 0 % ; 2) group 2, super lizer radiation at 10 % ; 3) group 3, super lizer radiation at 20 % ; 4) group 4, super lizer radiation at 40 % ; 5) group 5, super lizer radiation at 80 %. The polarized near-infrared ray radiation was applied on LI 4 point of subject's right hand at a fixed time for 30 second. Experimental pain threshold were measured with electrical current on the right hand at 5 intervals for each radiation: 1) pretreat; 2) posttreat ; 3) posttreat of 1/2 hr ; 4) posttreat of 1 hr ; and 5) posttreat of 2 hrs. Data were analyzed using analyses of variance with repeated measures for pain threshold. No significant interaction between power output and time for pain threshold was found. Significant effects of power output and time for experimental pain threshold were found. Significant increase was noted in experimental pain threshold in group 4 and group 5 at posttreat, posttreat of 1/2, 1 hr and 2 hrs as a result of the applications of the polarized near-infrared ray radiation. This study indicate that polarized near-infrared ray radiation with above 40 % of power output increases pain threshold, thus possibly increasing options in choosing radiation output for treating pateint with pain. Further study is needed to compare the effects of these radiation in patients with clinical pain.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the scientific basic grounds for the assessment of health and environmental diseases resulting from air pollutants in Pohang. For this study, we investigated pollutants, weather characteristics and concentration distribution of fine particles ($PM_10$) yearly and each season, using data from Air Quality Monitoring Stations. The properties of concentration distribution and seasonal fluctuation of $PM_10$ were studied qualitatively and quantitatively using CALPUFF, air dispersion model. The average concentration of $PM_10$ for each season was spring($75.7{\mu}g/m^3$)>summer($56.8{\mu}g/m^3$)>winter($53.6{\mu}g/m^3$)>fall( $52.7{\mu}g/m^3$). In the case of spring, high concentrations appear due to the Asian dust frequently occurring. The contributions of $PM_10$ classified by the types of pollution source in Pohang were point source 62%>mobile source 33%>area source 5%. An important point is that 97% of emissions were produced from the iron manufacture in steel industry. Therefore, it is necessary to control the emission sources of pollutants and to construct an observation system at Pohang steel industrial complex from now on. It’s time to control the risk factors for health and environmental disease to protect the health of resident in Pohang and its neighboring areas.
