  • This paper describes the design and the analysis of electromagnetic system of Magnetic Switch using 2D parametric finite element method(EM-Pulse). Magnetic Switch is electrical equipment, which is widely used for switching on/off motors in industrial field. The transient state is simulated in order to calculate the response time of Magnetic Switch. The simulation is based upon a step-by-step integration of the electric circuit equations and the core movement. The contactor uses a permanent magnet for maintaining the closed state. The presented solution takes account of non-linear magnetic material property and spring force controlled by core position. The dynamic response of Magnetic Switch predicted by the simulation agrees closely with the required condition.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • Application of vector control scheme for consumer products is enlarging to improve control performance. For the field-oriented control, accurate position detection is essential and generally requires expensive sensors. On the other hand, cost-reduction is important in home appliances, so that binary-type Hall-effect sensors are commonly used rather than using an expensive sensor such as an encoder. The control performance is directly influenced by the accuracy of the position information, and there exist non-uniformities related to Hall sensors in electrical and mechanical aspects, which result in distorted position information. Therefore, to get high-precision position information from low-resolution Hall sensors, this paper proposes a new position estimator consisting of a Kalman filter and feedforward compensation scheme, which generates a linearly changing position signal. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation and experimental results carried out with a 48-pole permanent magnet motor.

  • As many researchers are relentlessly trying to improve the power generation schemes from the power grid, to meet the constantly increasing electricity demand. In this paper, the results of a finite element analysis are carried out to study on a design optimization of an asymmetric air-gap structure in 3-phase Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motors. To achieve a high efficiency for a 3-phase PM BLDC motor, the asymmetric air-gap structure is proposed considering the rotation direction of a motor. Generally, a single-phase BLDC motor is applied asymmetric air-gap structure for starting. This is because the asymmetric air-gap structure causes reluctance variation so the motor can utilize reluctance torque toward a rotation direction. In this paper, the asymmetric air-gap is applied to 3-phase BLDC SPM motor so it utilizes reluctance torque with alignment torque. A proposed model is designed by 2-D FE analysis and the results are verified by experimental test.

  • This study was designed to investigate the impact of a 12-week nutrition education program on 32 male industrial workers (average age: $44.5{\pm}3.8$ yrs, work duration period: $20.1{\pm}5.6$ yrs) diagnosed as having dyslipidemia in a medical checkup at their workplace. This program was implemented with a conceptual framework on strengthening self-efficacy for the improvement of the health conditions of the workers. Most of all, the study exhibited benefits in the industrial workers by ameliorating the risk factors associated with dyslipidemia via changes in dietary behaviors, nutritional knowledge, and attitudes, as well as anthropometric and biochemical parameters. After the nutrition education, overall lifestyle, including the ratios of smoking (P<0.05) and drinking (P<0.01), significantly improved. Exactly 65.6% of the subjects reported that their dietary habits changed. Body weight, BMI, percentage of body fat, and waist circumference all significantly decreased (P<0.001). The systolic (P<0.01) as well as diastolic blood pressures (P<0.001) decreased. Moreover, the degree of increase in serum HDL-cholesterol was appreciable (P<0.001), and the atherogenic index also decreased (P<0.01). Further, risk factors related to metabolic syndrome in subjects significantly decreased (P<0.001). The average scores for nutrition knowledge increased from 9.3 to 17.7 points (P<0.001). All of the participants agreed on the need for a nutrition education program at their workplace. Further, it should be pointed out that the participants strongly indicated the need for continuing nutrition intervention.

  • Recently the direct injection diesel engine is the most efficient one available for road vehicles, so this fundamental advantage suggests the compression injection diesel engine are a wise choice for future development efforts. The compression ignition diesel engine, with its bigger compression ratios if compared to the SI engine, offers a higher thermodynamic efficiency, also additionally the diesel engine with its less pumping losses due to the throttled intake charge as in a SI engine has higher fuel economy. But the largest obstacle to the success of this engine is meeting emission standards for Nitric oxides and particulate matter while maintain fuel consumption advantage over currently available engines. Thus its use should be largely promoted, however, diesel engine emits more Nitric oxides and particulate matter than other competing one. There has been a trade-off between PM and NOx, so efforts to reduce NOx have increased PM and vice versa, but trap change this situation and better possibility emerge for treating NOx emission with engine related means, such as injection timing, equivalence ratio, charge composition, and engine speed. The common rail direct injection system is able to adjust the fuel injection timing in a compression ignition engine, so this electronically controlled injection system can reduce the formation of NOx gas without increase in soot. In this study it is designed and used the engine test bed which is installed with turbocharge and intercooler. In addition to equipped using CRDI by controlling injection timing with mapping modulator, it has been tested and analyzed the engine performance, combustion characteristics, and exhaust emission as operating parameters.

  • Effects of variations sulfur/accelerator ratio on cross-linking and thermal degradation behavior of NR/CR rubber compounds were studied using both dynamic DSC and non-isothermal TGA. DSC thermograms of the given samples were obtained with several different heating rates, and after cross-liked in DSC, TGA thermograms with the same samples also obtained. Kissinger analysis was applied to assess the activation energies for the cross-linking and thermal decomposition processes. Results showed that the formation and thermal decomposition reaction of the samples occurred in the overall temperature range of $120{\sim}180^{\circ}C$ and $350{\sim}450^{\circ}C$, respectively, exhibiting that data could be well-fittable by Kissinger method. Furthermore, formation activation energy by DSC was estimated as $83.0{\pm}5.0kJ/mol$, which was much smaller than that of degradation by TGA, $147.0{\pm}2.0kJ/mol$. From these results, it was considered that, although variations of sulfur/accelerator ratio in the present experiments affected little on the formation mechanism and/or thermal degradation, they could play roles as the catalysts which lower the activation energy of formation. Because of stabilization after formation reaction, however, they have no more effects on the lowering the activation energy, showing higher values when decomposition, caused by main-chain scissions.
