  • Permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous motors consist of PM rotors and ferromagnetic stators. When the rotor displaces from the center position, the air-gap magnetic field distorts, which result in unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP). In order to control the UMP and thereby reduce the vibration of a PM motor, it is necessary to measure the radial position of the rotor. In this paper, we propose a sensing method that utilizes linear Hall devices which replace the discrete Hall switches used for commutation. The results show the feasibility of the proposed sensing method.

  • A new on-line dead-time compensation method for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor drive is proposed. Using a simple disturbance observer without any additional circuit and off-line experimental measurement, disturbance voltages in the synchronous reference dq frame caused by the dead time and non-ideal switching characteristics of power devices are estimated in an on-line manner and fed to voltage references in order to compensate the dead-time effects. The proposed method is applied to a PM synchronous motor drive system and implemented by using software of a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320C31. Simulations and experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with the effect of rotor thickness variation and winding method in high torque hybrid Permanent Magnet(PM) step motor. As these parameters vary. The flux distribution in airgap and torque characteristics are influenced, which is related to output power. efficiency and cost. These parameters and characteristic variations were evaluated by using Finite Element Method (FEM) and experiment method. From these results. Characteristic analysis for the optimum design was studied and prototype motor was made to test performance analysis.

  • Recently, more attention has been paid to the development of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size, and low weight. In high-speed PM machines, core loss and windage loss form a larger proportion of the total losses than usual in conventional mid- or low speed machines. This article deals with the analysis on the core loss and windage loss in PM synchronous motor for high-speed application. Using the data information from a manufacturer and non-linear curve fitting, this paper investigates the magnetic behavior and its core losses in the stator core using the electrical steels. And, the windage loss is calculated according to the variation of the rotational speed, motor inner pressure and temperature.

And, the 2-phase PM type Linear Stepping Motor is simulated using 2-Dimensional finite element method. For calculating force, Maxwell stress tensor method is applied.

  • Among low power servo applications, classical DC motors are very popular because they are reasonably cheap and easy to control. The main disadvantage is the mechanical collector which has only a limited life period. Also, brush sparking can destroy the rotor coil, generate EMC problems. So permanent magnet brushless do motors and drives are being used increasingly in a wide range of applications. This has been made possible with the advantages of high performance permanent magnets with high coercively and residual magnetic, which make it possible for the PM to have superior power density, torque to inertia ratio and efficiency, when compared to an induction or conventional dc machine. This paper presents the design of a PM brushless dc motor drive simplistically operates as a classical dc motor. The BLDC motor drive system for this paper composes to the power integrated circuits, the one chip device. And several simple semiconductors add to drive system for a motor drive system simplistically operates as a conventional dc motor. Test results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed motor drive system design.

  • In this paper, a new permanent-magnet (PM) linear motor is proposed, in which both the magnets and armature windings are placed in the short mover, while the long stator consists of iron core only. Hence, this new PM linear motor can be called a primary permanent-magnet linear motor. It exhibits the advantages of robustness, low cost, high efficiency, high power factor, and high thrust force density. It is especially suitable for long stator applications such as urban rail transit. In this paper, the topology and operation principle of this motor are discussed in detail. The steady-state characteristics including field distributions, flux-linkage, back-EMF, phase inductance and thrust force are investigated. In addition, the technique of skewing stator teeth is adopted to improve the electromagnetic performance. Results from finite element method (FEM) verified the theoretical analysis results.

  • One of the most important technical improvement required for ropeless elevator system to become practical is the improvements in overall system efficiency. Moreover, the predominant drawback of permanent magnet (PM) linear synchronous motor (LSM) is large detent force. Therefore, for the given volume the selection of high power density PM-LSM with low detent force is very imperative. In this paper, we will investigate the characteristics of thrust and detent force of PM-LSM under different motor topology structure. Finally, the long stator double-sided iron core type PM-LSM with fractional slot winding is the best choice for the ropeless elevator system.

  • This paper studies particularly applicable method for sensorless PM BLDC motor drive system. The waveform of the motor internal voltages(or back emf) contains a fundamental and higher order frequency harmonics. Therefore the third harmonic component is extracted from the stator phase voltage. The resulting third harmonic signal keeps a constant phase relationship with the rotor flux for any motor speed and load condition. Also because of low resolution of estimated signal obtained by the proposed sensorless algorithm, to improve the wide range of speed response characteristic more exactly, we propose the rotor position signal synthesizer using PLL circuit based on estimated signals. Some experimental results are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.

Study on Solar Tracker Control Method using AC Motor and CdS Sensor (AC 모터 및 CdS 센서를 이용한 태양 추적 장치 제어 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the solar tracker has been used to improve the efficiency of solar energy. Solar tracking technologies are classified into the sensor-based method, the program-based method, and the hybrid method. Solar trackers using an AC motor and CdS sensor are low in cost, but the precision of the positions is low, owing to the inertia of the motor and the scattering of sunlight. To compensate for the low precision, we implement a CdS sensor module and propose an AC motor control method using error value. To evaluate the performance of the solar tracker, we implemented a solar water heater. From the experimental results, the solar tracker can achieve ${\pm}2mm$ accuracy for sun, can satisfy ${\pm}15mm$ as a limited error value, and provides a 32% performance enhancement in KSB8202 criteria.
