  • A quasi-constant on-time controlled buck front end in combined discontinuous conduction mode and boundary conduction mode is proposed to improve power factor (PF).When instantaneous AC input voltage is lower than the output bus voltage per period, the buck converter turns into buck-boost converter with the addition of a level comparator to compare input voltage and output voltage. The gate drive voltage is provided by an additional oscillator during distortion time to eliminate the cross-over distortion of the input current. This high PF comes from the avoidance of the input current distortion, thereby enabling energy to be delivered constantly. This paper presents a series analysis of controlling techniques and efficiency, PF, and total harmonic distortion. A comparison in terms of efficiency and PF between the proposed converter and a previous work is performed. The specifications of the converter include the following: input AC voltage is from 90V to 264V, output DC voltage is 80V, and output power is 94W.This converter can achieve PF of 98.74% and efficiency of 97.21% in 220V AC input voltage process.

  • An integrated ZCS quasi-resonant converter(QRC) for the power factor correction with a single switch is presented in this paper. The power factor correction can be achieved by the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) operation of the input current. The proposed converter gives the good power factor, low line current harmonics, and tight output regulation. The input current waveform of the prototype designed using design equations shows about 15% of total harmonic distortion at rated condition. Also, the efficiency and power factor can be obtained about 86% and 0.985, respectively, at rated condition. The proposed converter is suitable for a low power level converter with a tightly regulated low output voltage and switching frequency of more than several hundreds kHz.

  • Critical conduction mode (CRM) operation is more efficient than continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation at low power levels because of the valley switching of switches and elimination of the reverse recovery losses of boost diodes. When using a sensorless digital control method, an error occurs between the actual and the estimated current. Because of the error, it operates as CCM or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) during CRM operation and also has an adverse effect on THD of input current. In this paper, a current sensorless technique is presented in an inverter system using a bridgeless boosted power factor correction converter, and a compensation method is proposed to reduce CRM calculation error. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • Arc lamps are now widely utilized as illumination sources for a large number of investigations in wide-field fluorescence microscopy. Among many power converters for the lamp, the PSFB (Phase-Shift Full-Bridge) converter with the ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) is the most widely used soft switched circuit in high-power applications. Also, in the most luminaries, the power factor has to be more and more important. Thus, the power factor correction(PFC) must be included in the power system. A new igniter module using the switching power device and the transformer is proposed instead of the conventional igniter using the mechanical contactor. The proposed converter with the high power factor and high efficiency is verified through the experimental works.

  • This paper presents a detailed analysis method of the universal input forward converter with LC input filter operating in discontinuous capacitor voltage mode(DCVM) for wind power generation. In this analysis, condition for DCVM operation and conversion ratio for rectified sinusoidal input are made clear. To verify the validity of the analysis, simulation is carried out for the universal input ranging from 90 $V_{rms} to 260 V_{rms}$

  • A proposed soft-switching buck-boost PWM converter has a lot of advantages, Viz., electric isolation, a high power factor, low switching losses, low EMI noise, reduction of the voltage and current stresses, etc. In a new PFC converter, the switching device is replaced by the loss-less snubber circuit to achieve the zero voltage switching (ZVS) at the maximum current. However, the charging current of the capacitor in the loss-less snubber circuit distorts the input current waveforms. To improve the input current waveform, a new duty factor control method is proposed in this paper.

  • This paper describes a comparative analysis of soft switching boost converters through design, production and experiment. Soft switching boost converters are designed to satisfy the condition of input voltage 170-265Vac, output voltage 400Vdc, output current 5A, output power 20W-2000W and unit power factor. In addition, parameter values are designed so that system operation can be compared under this is similar conditions. The efficiency of the combined inductor soft switching boost converter was 97.63% with 1011 load better than that of other boost converter types. The combined inductor soft switching converter has simple circuit construction and low switching loss. EMI resulted by the switching noise, and harmonic distortion.

  • A single-phase power factor corrected converter for switched reluctance motor driving is presented to achieve sinusoidal, near unity power factor input currents. Because it combines a power factor corrected converter and a conventional asymmetric SRM driver into one power stage, the configuration has a simple structure resulted in low cost. A prototype to drive 6/6 poles SRM employing a parking magnet is designed to evaluate the proposed topology. The characteristics and operational mode will be discussed in depth, and the validity of proposed driver will be verified through the experimental results.

  • This paper is about the suggestion for the development in the commercialization for 3.6kW Class On-Board charger. It is suggesting non-insulation AC-DC Boost Power Factor correction circuit and insulation DC-DC resonant Converter for circuit design. In addition, Input AC voltage in the power supply is DCM control which can be designed to decrease the inductance for the inductor size to be reduced. DCM controls and Interleaved PFC can be designed to decrease the inductor size increasing the power conversions. Also, using the insulation DC-DC resonant converter, the efficiency can be increased. This system is verified using prototype hardware.

  • In this paper a new method for the design of a simple PI controller is presented and it has been applied in the control of a Boost based PFC rectifier. The Strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm, which is based on the Pareto Optimality concept, used in Game theory literature is implemented as a multi-objective optimization approach to gain a good transient response and a high quality input current. In the proposed method, the input current harmonics and the dynamic response have been assumed as objective functions, while the PI controller's gains of the PFC rectifier (Kpi, Tpi) are design variables. The proposed algorithm generates a set of optimal gains called a Pareto Set corresponding to a Pareto Front, which is a set of optimal results for the objective functions. All of the Pareto Front points are optimum, but according to the design priority objective function, each one can be selected. Simulation and experimental results are presented to prove the superiority of the proposed design methodology over other methods.
