Based on the measured data in the south western sea of Jeju Island during the SAVEX15(Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015), the effect of internal waves on the PPD (Predictive Probability of Detection) of a sonar system was analyzed. The southern west sea of Jeju Island has complex flows due to internal waves and USC (Underwater Sound Channel). In this paper, sonar performance is predicted by probabilistic approach. The LFM (Linear Frequency Modulation) and MLS (Maximum Length Sequence) signals of 11 kHz - 31 kHz band of SAVEX15 data were processed to calculate the TL (Transmission Loss) and NL (Noise Level) at a distance of approximately 2.8 km from the source and the receiver. The PDF (Probability Density Function) of TL and NL is convoluted to obtain the PDF of the SE (Signal Excess) and the PPD according to the depth of the source and receiver is calculated. Analysis of the changes in the PPD over time when there are internal waves such as soliton packet and internal tide has confirmed that the PPD value is affected by different aspects.
This paper introduces the simulation concepts and technical approach of underwater weapon system performance analysis simulator, especially focused on probabilistic target detection concepts. We calculated the signal excess (SE) value using SONAR equation, then derived the probability density function(PDF) for target presence($H_1$) or absence($H_0$) cases, respectively. With the Neyman-Pearson detector criterion, we got the probability of detection($P_D$) while satisfying the given probability of false alarm($P_{FA}$). At every instance of simulation, target detection is decided in the probabilistic perspective. With the proposed detection implementation, we improved the model fidelity so that it could support the tactical decision during the operation.
One of the most important issues for projecting future water resources and establishing climate change adaptation strategies is 'uncertainty'. In Korea, climate change research results were very heterogeneous even in a same basin, but there have been few climate change studies dealt with the uncertainty reduction. This is because emission scenarios, GCMs, downscaling, and rainfall-runoff models that were used in the previous studies were almost all different. In this research, fifty one GCM scenarios based A and B emission scenarios were downloaded and then compared with the observed values for a period from January 2001 to December 2008. The downloaded GCM scenarios in general simulated well the observed but did not simulated well the observed precipitation especially for the flood season in Korea. The accuracy of each GCM scenario was measured with the model efficiency, PDF-based, and Relative Entropy methodology. Among the selected GCM scenarios with three methodologies, the four common GCM scenarios(CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, B1), MIROC3.2medress(NIES, B1), CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, A2), CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, A1B) were finally selected. Results of the four selected GCMs were heterogeneity and projected increases of precipitation for the Korean Peninsula by from 27.36% to 12.49%, respectively. It seems very risky to rely a water planning or a management policy on use of a single climate change scenario and from this research results. Therefore, the four selected GCM scenarios proposed quantitatively were considered firstly for the water supply in the dry season and the drought management strategy in the Korean Peninsula for the future.
The EARPG(1)/UPS was first developed by Seong (1993) and has been tested for wind pressure time series simulations (Seong and Peterka 1993, 1997, 1998) to prove its excellent performance for generating non-Gaussian time series, in particular, with large amplitude sharp peaks. This paper presents a parametric study focused on simulation of extreme value statistics based on the synthetic realizations of the EARPG(1)/UPS. The method is shown to have a great capability to simulate a wide range of non-Gaussian statistic values and extreme value statistics with exact target sample power spectrum. The variation of skewed long tail in PDF and extreme value distribution are illustrated as function of relevant parameters.

Markov envelope as a theoretical solution of the parabolic wave equation with Markov approximation for the von Kármán type random medium is studied and approximated with the convolution of two probability density functions (pdf) of normal and gamma distributions considering the previous studies on the applications of Radiative Transfer Theory (RTT) and the analysis results of earthquake records. Through the approximation with gamma pdf, the constant shape parameter of 2 was determined regardless of the source distance ro. This finding means that the scattering process has the property of an inhomogeneous single-scattering Poisson process, unlike the previous studies, which resulted in a homogeneous multiple-scattering Poisson process. Approximated Markov envelope can be treated as the normalized mean square (MS) envelope for ground acceleration because of the flat source Fourier spectrum. Based on such characteristics, the path duration is estimated from the approximated MS envelope and compared to the empirical formula derived by Boore and Thompson. The results clearly show that the path duration increases proportionately to ro1/2-ro2, and the peak value of the RMS envelope is attenuated by exp (-0.0033ro), excluding the geometrical attenuation. The attenuation slope for ro≤100 km is quite similar to that of effective attenuation for shallow crustal earthquakes, and it may be difficult to distinguish the contribution of intrinsic attenuation from effective attenuation. Slowly varying dispersive delay, also called the medium effect, represented by regular pdf, governs the path duration for the source distance shorter than 100 km. Moreover, the diffraction term, also called the distance effect because of scattering, fully controls the path duration beyond the source distance of 300 km and has a steep gradient compared to the medium effect. Source distance 100-300 km is a transition range of the path duration governing effect from random medium to distance. This means that the scattering may not be the prime cause of peak attenuation and envelope broadening for the source distance of less than 200 km. Furthermore, it is also shown that normal distribution is appropriate for the probability distribution of phase difference, as asserted in the previous studies.

This paper presents the bit error rate(BER) upper bounds for trellis coded asymmetric 8PSK(TC-A8PSK) system using the Ka-band satellite in the rain fading environment. The probability density function(PDF) for the rain fading random variable can be theoretically derived by assuming that the rain attenuation can be approximated to a long-normal distribution and the rain fading parameters are calculated by using the rain precipitation data from the Crane global model. Furthermore, we analyze the BER upper bounds of TC-A8PSK system according to the number of states in the trellis diagram and the availability of channel state information(CSI). In the past, Divsalar and Simon[9] has analyzed the BER upper bounds of 2-state TCM system in Rician fading channels however this paper is the first to analyze the BER upper bounds of TCM system in the rain fading channels. Finally, we summarize the dominant six factors which are closely related to the BER upper bounds of TC-A8PSK satellite system in the rain fading channel as follows: 1) frequency band, 2) rain intensity, 3) elevation angle, 4) signal to noise ratio, 5) asymmetric angle, and 6) availability of CSI.

Electron-phonon interaction plays a significant role in forming of colossal magnetoresistance effect (CMR). Polaron formation was observed by neutron diffraction and by extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis. Local probe as given by the EXAFS is a useful method to study the polaronic charge and its dependence on temperature and ions size. Here we present the EXAFS study of polaronic charge in La/sub 0.7/Ca/sub 0.3-X/Ba/sub X/MnO₃ compositions. The single phase La/sub 0.7/Ca/sub 0.3-X/Ba/sub X/MnO₃ manganites (x=0; 0.03; 0.06, ..., 0.3) were prepared by ceramic technology [1]. The Curie temperature was determined by extrapolation of the temperature dependence of the magnetization (down to zero magnetization). EXAFS experiments were carried out at the 7C EC beam line of the Pohang Light Source (PLS) in Korea. The atomic pair distribution functions (PDF) were obtained by re-regularization method [2] from filtered spectra. The PDF for the x=0.3 sample showed a single peak function and for x=0.0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.09, 0.12 compositions were asymmetric in agreement with a small Jahn-Teller elongation of two (short and long) bonds of the MnO/sub 6/ octahedron. Dispersion, σ/sub Min-O//sup 2/, and asymmetry, σ/sub Min-O//sup 3/, of the Mn-O bond distances varied significantly with x and showed a maximums at x=0.09. The maximum of σ/sub Min-O//sup 2/ is caused by increase of dynamic rms displacements of the Mn-O distances near the T/sub C/. The observed x dependence of σ/sub Min-O//sup 3/ reflects the reduction of charge carriers mobility at approaching to T/sub C/ from low as well as high temperatures.
In this paper we establish some recurrence relations satisfied by quotient moments of upper record values from the exponential distribution. Let $\{X_n,\;n{\geq}1\}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function F(x) and probability density function(pdf) f(x). Let $Y_n=max\{X_1,\;X_2,\;{\cdots},\;X_n\}$ for $n{\geq}1$. We say $X_j$ is an upper record value of $\{X_n,\;n{\geq}1\}$, if $Y_j>Y_{j-1}$, j > 1. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times {u(n)}, $n{\geq}1$, where u(n)=min\{j{\mid}j>u(n-1),\;X_j>X_{u(n-1)},\;n{\geq}2\} and u(1) = 1. Suppose $X{\in}Exp(1)$. Then $\Large{E\;\left.{\frac{X^r_{u(m)}}{X^{s+1}_{u(n)}}}\right)=\frac{1}{s}E\;\left.{\frac{X^r_{u(m)}}{X^s_{u(n-1)}}}\right)-\frac{1}{s}E\;\left.{\frac{X^r_{u(m)}}{X^s_{u(n)}}}\right)}$ and $\Large{E\;\left.{\frac{X^{r+1}_{u(m)}}{X^s_{u(n)}}}\right)=\frac{1}{(r+2)}E\;\left.{\frac{X^{r+2}_{u(m)}}{X^s_{u(n-1)}}}\right)-\frac{1}{(r+2)}E\;\left.{\frac{X^{r+2}_{u(m-1)}}{X^s_{u(n-1)}}}\right)}$.
A space-time fractional advection-dispersion equation (ADE) is a generalization of the classical ADE in which the first-order time derivative is replaced with Caputo derivative of order $\alpha{\in}(0,1]$, and the second-order space derivative is replaced with a Riesz-Feller derivative of order $\beta{\in}0,2]$. We derive the solution of its Cauchy problem in terms of the Green functions and the representations of the Green function by applying its Fourier-Laplace transforms. The Green function also can be interpreted as a spatial probability density function (pdf) evolving in time. We do the same on another kind of space-time fractional advection-dispersion equation whose space and time derivatives both replacing with Caputo derivatives.
Turbulence is ubiquitous in astrophysical fluids such as the interstellar medium(ISM) and the intracluster medium(ICM). There are many driving mechanisms which can inject energy into the fluid in variety driving scales, But the plausible driving scale of ISM/ICM turbulence are yet unknown. Therefore, understanding different statistical properties between turbulence with single driving scale and turbulence with double driving scale is required. In this work, we performed 3-dimensional isothermal compressible, magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) turbulence simulations. We drive turbulence in the Fourier space in two ranges, 2
