  • Protostellar jets and outflows are signatures of star formation and promising mechanisms for driving supersonic turbulence in molecular clouds. We quantify outflow-driven turbulence through three-dimensional numerical simulations using an isothermal version of the total variation diminishing code. We drive turbulence in real space using a simplified spherical outflow model, analyze the data through density probability distribution functions (PDFs), and investigate density and velocity power spectra. The real-space turbulence-driving method produces a negatively skewed density PDF possessing an enhanced tail on the low-density side. It deviates from the log-normal distributions typically obtained from Fourier-space turbulence driving at low densities, but can provide a good fit at high densities, particularly in terms of mass-weighted rather than volume-weighted density PDF. We find shallow density power-spectra of -1.2. It is attributed to spherical shocks of outflows themselves or shocks formed by the interaction of outflows. The total velocity power-spectrum is found to be -2.0, representative of the shock dominated Burger's turbulence model. Our density weighted velocity power spectrum is measured as -1.6, slightly less that the Kolmogorov scaling values found in previous works.

  • Nine two-year old sheep fitted with rumen and duodenum cannulas were used to study the effect of controlling protozoa flora on the degradation and utilization of dietary fibre and protein in the rumen and on nitrogenous flow to the duodenum. There were three groups in this experiment: defaunation (DF); partial defaunation (PDF); faunation (F) as control. Results showed that: 1,There were no differences between treatments in dietary DM degradation in the rumen, but defaunation and partial defaunation increased the quantity of nitrogenous material in the rumen and the flow of N to duodenum. 2, partial defaunation and defaunation improved the degradabilities of dietary NDF, ADF and HC, but there were no differences between the defaunated and partially defaunated groups. 3, Partial defaunation decreased the degradability of dietary protein in the rumen. There was no difference between defaunated and faunated groups. 4, Defaunation and partial defaunation increased the quantity of total N (TN) and microbial N (MCN) in the rumen and the amounts entering the duodenum. The protozoa N (PN) flow in the faunated group was higher than that in the partially defaunated group, and the amino acid pattern in the digesta at the proximal duodenum in the defaunated group was closer to the ideal amino acid pattern. 5, There were differences in the mole percent of acetic, propionic, total-VFAs and the non-glucogenic to glucogenic VFAs ratio (NGR) value in the rumen fluids. The order was as follows: mole percent of acetate: F>PDF>DF; mole percent of propionate: DF>PDF>F; total-VFAs: PDF>F>DF; NGR: F>PDF>DF.

  • Chaos communication system is one of the security algorithms that is applied to improve the security. Chaos signal is non-linear, and it is generated randomly according to the initial conditions. Also, chaos communication system has characteristics such as non-periodic, wide-band, non-predictability of signals and easy implementation. So, security of chaos communication system is superior, and it has low interception probability and good anti-jamming characteristic. However, BER performance is worse than digital communication system, because it has many self interference signal in case of CDSK system. To improve these disadvantages, we analyze the PDF trend which can improve the BER performance in existing study, and we proposed a chaos map. And, proposed chaos map was defined as the 'Boss map'. Generally, BER performance is changed according to initial values, parameters and spreading factors. Therefore, in this paper, we will introduce PDF trends which can improve the BER performance, and will describe about Boss map. Also, characteristics of Boss map is analyzed by evaluating the BER performance of Boss map according to initial values, parameters and spreading factors. As a result, while maintaining the similar BER performance, initial value of Boss map can be selected from 0 to 1.2, and BER performance is best when parameter alpha is 2.5. Also, BER performance is best when spreading factor is 50.

  • The backscattered sound energy by fish depends on size and physical structure and, most important, on the presence or absence of a swimbladder. Target strength experiments of red seabream (Pagrus major) were conducted by using 38 (split-beam), 120 (split-beam) and 200 kHz (dual-beam) frequencies with live fishes confined in a net-cage and free swimming in tank without the cage, respectively. For 38, 120, and 200 kHz frequencies, target strength equations are expressed as a function of fish length:TS/sub 38kHz/=20 log/sub 1o(l)/-66.41, TS/sub 120kHz/=20 log/sub 1o(1)/-71.80, and TS/sub 200kHz/=20 log/sub 1o(1)/-73.94. To test the acoustic models by using Helmholtz-Kirchhoff ray approximation, predictions of target strength based on swimbladder morphometries are compared with target strength measurements. The target strength of whole fish depends on variations in swimbladder morphology than fish body morphology. In the mean time, when the fish is confined in the net cage, scattering length by the backscattered signal matched with the Gaussian PDF, while under the free-swimming condition, scattering length is close to the Rayleigh PDF.

  • The AtPGR gene is induced by pathogen infection, jasmonic acid and salicylic acid treatment and may therefore play a role in plant defense responses. Arabidopsis thaliana Plasma membrane Glucose-responsive Regulator (AtPGR) was previously isolated from Arabidopsis, which confers glucose insensitivity on plants. To study its biological functions directly, we have characterized both loss-of-function RNAi mutant and gain-of-function transgenic overexpression plants for AtPGR in Arabidopsis. The AtPGR-overexpressing plants displayed enhanced resistance to a virulent strain of the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae as measured by a significant decrease in both bacterial growth and symptom development as compared to those in wild-type and RNAi plants. The enhanced resistance in the gain-of-function transgenic plants was associated with increased induction of SA-regulated PDF1.2 and JA-regulated PR1 by the bacterial pathogen. Thus, pathogen-induced AtPGR plays a positive role in defense responses to P. syringae.

  • The nature and origin of the intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF) are an outstanding problem of cosmology, yet they are not well understood. Measuring Faraday rotation (RM) is one of a few promising methods to explore the IGMF. We have theoretically investigated RM using a model of the IGMF based on a MHD turbulence dynamo (Ryu et al. 2008; Cho et al. 2009). In the previous KAS meeting, we reported the results for the present-day local universe; for instance, the probability distribution function (PDF) of ${\mid}RM{\mid}$ follows the lognormal distribution, the root mean square (rms) value for filaments is ~1 rad m^{-2}, and the power spectrum peaks at ~1 h^{-1} Mpc scale. In this talk, we extend our study of RM; by stacking simulation data up to redshift z=5 and taking account of the redshift distribution of radio sources, we have reproduced an observable view of RM through filaments against background radio sources. Our findings are as follows. The inducement of RM is a random walk process, so that the rms of RM increases with increasing path length. The rms value of RM for filaments reaches several rad m^{-2}. The PDF still follows the lognormal distribution, and the power spectrum of RM peaks at less than degree scale. Our predictions of RM could be tested, for instance, with LOFAR, ASKAP, MEERKAT, and SKA.

  • We present numerical simulations of decaying hydrodynamic turbulence initially driven by solenoidal (divergence-free) and compressive (curl-free) drivings. Most previous numerical studies for decaying turbulence assume an isothermal equation of state (EOS). Here we use a polytropic EOS, P ∝ ργ, with polytropic exponent γ ranging from 0.7 to 5/3. We mainly aim at determining the effects of γ and driving schemes on the decay law of turbulence energy, E ∝ t. We additionally study probability density function (PDF) of gas density and skewness of the distribution in polytropic turbulence driven by compressive driving. Our findings are as follows. First of all, we find that even if γ does not strongly change the decay law, the driving schemes weakly change the relation; in our all simulations, turbulence decays with α ≈ 1, but compressive driving yields smaller α than solenoidal driving at the same sonic Mach number. Second, we calculate compressive and solenoidal velocity components separately and compare their decay rates in turbulence initially driven by compressive driving. We find that the former decays much faster so that it ends up having a smaller fraction than the latter. Third, the density PDF of compressively driven turbulence with γ > 1 deviates from log-normal distribution: it has a power-law tail at low density as in the case of solenoidally driven turbulence. However, as it decays, the density PDF becomes approximately log-normal. We discuss why decay rates of compressive and solenoidal velocity components are different in compressively driven turbulence and astrophysical implication of our findings.

  • Let {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with absolutely continuous cumulative distribution function (cdf) F(x) and probability density function (pdf) f(x). Suppose $X_{U(m)},\;m = 1,\;2,\;{\cdots}$ be the upper record values of {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$}. It is shown that the linearity of the conditional expectation of $X_{U(n+2)}$ given $X_{U(n)}$ characterizes the lomax, exponential and pareto distributions.
