Crystal structure of Bis(ethylenediamine)palladium(II)-Bis(oxalato)palladate(II0 has been determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystal data : (Pd(C2H8N2)2.Pd(C2O4)2), Fw=509.04, Monocline, Space Group P21/c (no=14), a=6.959(2), b=13.506(2), c=15.339(2) Å, β=99.94(3), Z=4, V=1420 Å3, Dc=2.380 gcm-3, μ=25.46cm-1, F(000)=992. The intensity data were collected with Mo-Kα radiation (λ=0.7107 Å) on an automatic four-circle diffractometer with a graphite monochromater. The structure was solved by Patterson method and refined by full matrix least-square methods using unit weights. The final R and S values were R=0.021, Rw=0.030, Rall=0.032 abd S=2.1 for 1472 observed reflections. The essentially planar complex anions form diade of interplanar distances of 3.41 Å and their diads are stacked along aaxis with interplanar separation of 3.44 Å.
A highly performed Pd-based hydrogen membrane has prepared successfully on a modified porous nickel support. The porous nickel support modified by impregnation method of $Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ (Aldrich Co.) over the nickel powder showed a strong resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and thermal stability. Plasma surface modification treatment was introduced as a pre-treatment process instead of conventional HCl wet activation. Ceramic barrier was coated on the external surface of the prepared nickel supports to prevent intermetallic diffusion and to enhance the affinity between the support and membrane. Palladium and copper were deposited at thicknesses of $4\mu}m$ and $0.5{\mu}m$, respectively, on a barrier-coated support by DC sputtering process. The permeation measurement was performed in pure hydrogen at $400^{\circ}C$. The single gas permeation of our membrane was two times higher than that of the previous membrane which do not have ceramic barrier.
This study investigated the long-term durability of catalyst(Pd or Fe)-infiltrated solid oxide cells for $CO_2$/steam co-electrolysis. Fuel-electrode supported solid oxide cells with dimensions of $5{\times}5cm^2$ were fabricated, and palladium or iron was subsequently introduced via wet infiltration (as a form of PdO or FeO solution). The metallic catalysts were employed in the fuel-electrode to promote $CO_2$ reduction via reverse water gas shift reactions. The metal-precursor particles were well-dispersed on the fuel-electrode substrate, which formed a bimetallic alloy with Ni embedded on the substrate during high-temperature reduction processes. These planar cells were tested using a mixture of $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ to measure the electrochemical and gas-production stabilities during 350 h of co-electrolysis operations. The results confirmed that compared to the Fe-infiltrated cell, the Pd-infiltrated cell had higher stabilities for both electrochemical reactions and gas-production given its resistance to carbon deposition.

Two new palladium (II) complexes, [Pd (phen)(pip-dtc)]$NO_3$ and [Pd(phen)(mor-dtc)]$NO_3$, (where phen is 1,10-Phenantroline, pip-dtc is piperidinedithiocarbamate anion and mor-dtc is morpholinedithiocarbamate anion) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic studies (FT-IR, $^1H$ NMR, UV-Vis) and conductance measurement. In these complexes, the dithiocarbamate ligands coordinate with Pd (II) center as bidentate with two sulfur atoms. These two complexes have been tested against chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line, K562. They show $IC_{50}$ values less than cisplatin and thus the mode of binding of the complexes to calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were investigated by ultraviolet difference and fluorescence spectroscopy. They can denature DNA, exhibit cooperative binding and intercalate into DNA. Several binding and thermodynamic parameters are also described.
In this work, the conversion of crystalline cellulose into polyols in the presence of hydrogen was examined over noble metal (Pt, Ru, Ir, Rh, and Pd) catalysts supported on activated carbon. For comparison, Pt/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and Pt/H-mordenite were also investigated. Several techniques: $N_2$ physisorption, X-ray diffraction(XRD), inductively-coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), temperature-programmed reduction with $H_2$ ($H_2$-TPR) and CO chemisorption were employed to characterize the catalysts. The cellulose conversion was not strongly dependent on the types of the catalyst used. Pt/AC showed the highest yields to polyols among activated carbon-supported noble metal catalysts, viz. Pt/AC, Ru/AC, Ir/AC, Rh/AC and Pd/AC.

It is generally recognized that thin Pd-Cu alloy films fabricated by sputtering show a wide range of microstructures and properties, both of which are highly dependent on the sputtering conditions. In view of this, the present study aims to investigate the relationship between the performance of hydrogen separation membranes and the microstructure of Pd alloy films depending on sputtering deposition conditions such as substrate temperature, working pressure, and DC power. We fabricated thin and dense Pd-Cu alloy membranes by the micro-polishing of porous Ni support, an advanced Pd-Cu sputtered multi-deposition under the conditions of high substrate temperature / low working pressure / high DC power, and a followed by Cu-reflow heat-treatment. The result of a hydrogen permeation test indicated that the selectivity for $H_2/N_2$ was infinite because of the void-free and dense surface of the Pd alloy membranes, and the hydrogen permeability was 10.5 $ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}$ for a 6 ${\mu}m$ membrane thickness.
Various methods to degrade explosives efficiently in natural soil and water that include trinitrotoluene (TNT) have been studied. In this study, TNT in water was degraded by reduction with palladium (Pd) catalyst impregnated onto alumina (henceforth Pd-Al catalyst) and formic acid. The degradation of TNT was faster when the temperature of water was high, and the initial TNT concentration, pH, and ion concentration in water were low. The amounts of Pd-Al catalyst and formic acid were also important for TNT degradation in water. According to the experimental results, the degradation constant of TNT with unit mass of Pd-Al catalyst was $8.37min^{-1}g^{-1}$. The degradation constant of TNT was higher than the results of previous studies which used zero valent iron. 2,6-diamino-4-nitrotoluene and 2-amino-4,6-dinitrotoluene were detected as by-products of TNT degradation showing that TNT was reduced. The by-products of TNT were also completely degraded after reaction when both Pd-Al catalyst and formic acid existed. Even though there are several challenges of Pd-Al catalyst (e.g., deactivation, poisoning, leaching, etc.), the results of this study show that TNT degradation by Pd-Al catalyst and formic acid is a promising technique to remediate explosive contaminated water and soil.
The effects of light and $CO_2$ on the electrophysiological characteristics of guard cells in the intact leaf and isolated epidermis have been investigated. Fast hyperpolarization of guard cell apoplastic PD in the intact leaf was recorded reaching up to around 7 mV and 20 mV in response to light and $CO_2$. Whenever the experiments were attempted with isolated epidermis, there was no response to light and $CO_2$. In order to determine the influence of the mesophyll cells, the apoplastic PD of guard cells in isolated epidermis was measured in the presence of the mesophyll supernatant or the control medium. The apoplastic PD in isolated epidermis was hyperpolarized to -7mV, changing from -22mV to -29mV at 40 min. But, when isolated epidermis was incubated with the supernatant from mesophyll cells incubated in the light, the apoplastic PD in isolated epidermis was hyperpolarized to -19 mV, changing from -22 mV to -40.5 mV. $CO_2$ also caused a change of 0.1 to 0.3 pH unit in the intact leaf. However, this change was absent in isolated epidermis. A vibrating probe was used to detect the change in electrical currents at the surface of excised intact leaves and isolated epidermis. The reading of excised intact leaves in the dark was $0.5\muA\;cm^{-2},$ remaining steady until illuminated. Light increased the current on the surface of excised leaves to about $0.8\muA\;cm^{-2},$. However, light had no effect in the current on the surface of isolated epidermis. Apoplastic pH changes across the stomatal complex in response to light and dark were measured both in the intact leaves and isolated epidermis over the same time period using pH micro-electrodes. The guard cell wall of intact leaf was acidified to 2.5 pH unit, falling from pH 7.5 to pH 5.0 in the first 10 min. in the light. At the same time the guard cell wall pH of isolated epidermis fell from pH 7.5 to pH 7.0 at 10 min. The guard cell wall pH of isolated epidermis incubated in the mesophyll supernatant fell from pH 7.6 to pH 6.7 at 10 min. Likewise, It could be imagined that an electrical signal, chemicals and hormones propagated from the mesophyll in response to light and $CO_2$ could control a fast stomatal response.

The Ru(Ⅲ), Ni(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), and Pd(Ⅱ) complexes of N$_4$-polydentate ligands(meso-Me$_6$-[14]-ane, rac-Me$_6$-[14]-ane, and cyclam) have been prepared and their catalytic activity and selectivity in the oxidation of olefins in the presence of oxidant such as NaOCl, H$_2$O$_2$, t-BuOOH, and PhIO studied. The oxidations of cyclohexene, 1-hexene, cyclooctene, 1-octene, and styrene as substrates have been investigated gas chromatographically. The Ru(Ⅲ)-N$_4$ complexes showed high selectivity for epoxide in the catalyzed oxidation of olefins with NaOCl. The catalytic activities of Ru(Ⅲ)-N$_4$ complexes were discussed in terms of the flexibility of N$_4$-polydentate ligands, the Ru(Ⅲ)-Cl bond interaction and the steric effect of oxidants. The oxidation of 1-octene using PhIO as oxidant was carried out to verify. The Pd(Ⅱ) complex turned out to be more active catalyst than the Ni(Ⅱ) complexes.
