Among the combination of 4 different second metals and 3 different noble metals, Ni 10%-Pd 1%/hematite (Ni(10)-Pd(1)/H) showed best tetrachloroethylene (PCE) removal (75.8%) and production of non-toxic products (39.8%) in closed batch reactors under an anaerobic condition. The effect of environmental factors (pH, contents of Ni and Pd in catalyst, and hydrogen gas concentration) on the reductive dechlorination of PCE by Pd-Ni/hematite catalysts was investigated. PCE was degraded less at the condition of Ni(5)/H (13.7%) than at the same condition with Ni(10)/H (20.6%). Removals of PCE were rarely influenced by the experimental condition of different Pd amounts (Pd(1)/H and Pd(3)/H). Acidic to neutral pH conditions were favorable to the degradation of PCE, compared to the alkaline condition (pH 10). Increasing Ni contents from 1 to 10% increased the PCE removal to 89.8% in 6 hr. However, the removal decreased to 74.2% at Ni content of 20%. Meanwhile, increasing Pd contents to 6% showed no difference in PCE removal at Pd content of more than 1%. Increasing H2 concentration increased the removal of PCE until 4% H2 which was maximumly applied in this study. Chlorinated products such as trichloroethylene, 1,1-dichloroethylene, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, and vinyl chloride were not observed while PCE was transformed to acetylene (24%), ethylene (5%), and ethane (11%) by Ni(10)-Pd(1)/H catalyst in 6hr.
The future use of hydrogen as an energy source is expected to increase on account of its environmentally friendliness. In order to enhance the production of hydrogen, Pd ions (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.5 mol%) were incorporated $TiO_2$ (Pd-$TiO_2$) and used as a photocatalyst. The UV-visible absorbance decreased with increasing level of palladium incorporation without a wavelength shift. Although all the absorption plots showed excitation characteristics, there was an asymmetric tail observed towards a higher wavelength caused by scattering. However, the intensity of the photoluminescence (PL) curves of Pd-$TiO_2$ was smaller, with the smallest case being observed at 0.1 and 0.5 mol% Pd-$TiO_2$, which was attributedto recombination between the excited electrons and holes. Based on these optical characteristics, the evolution of $H_2$ from methanol/water (1:1) photo-splitting over Pd-$TiO_2$ in the liquid system was enhanced, compared with that over pure $TiO_2$. In particular, 2.4 mL of $H_2$ gas was produced after 8 h when 0.5 g of a 1.0 mol% Pd-$TiO_2$ catalyst was used. $H_2$ was stably evolved even after 28 h without catalytic deactivation, and the amount of $H_2$ produced reached 14.5 mL after 28 h. This is in contrast to the case of the Pd 0.1 mol% impregnated $TiO_2$ of $H_2$ evolution of 17.5 mL due to the more decreasedelectron-hole recombination.

In this study, a Pd/TiO2 catalyst which oxidized H2 at room temperature without an additional energy source was prepared. And a specific surface area of TiO2 as a support was not proportional to H2 oxidation reaction performance of Pd/TiO2 catalyst. In addition La2O3 was added to Pd/TiO2 catalyst in order to evaluate the performance effect due to the change of catalysts physical properties. A Pd/La2O3-TiO2 was prepared by adding different amounts of La2O3 to TiO2 and CO chemisorption analysis was performed. Compared to the conversion rate (14% at 0.5% H2) of the Pd/TiO2(G) catalyst, the Pd/La2O3-TiO2 catalyst showed 74% which was improved by more than five times. It was found that the larger the metal dispersion of Pd as an active metal is, the more favorable to H2 oxidation reaction is. However, when the added La2O3 amount exceeded 10%, the catalyst performance decreased again. Finally, it was concluded that the physical properties of the Pd/La2O3-TiO2 catalyst have a dominant influence on the catalytic activity until 0.3~0.5% of injected H2 concentrations and the catalyst reaction rate was controlled by substance transfer from 1% or more concentrations of H2.
PD indicates the inception and progress of degradation of solid insulation system, so it has been used to determine degradation of insulation. PD provides means for detection and recognition of defects. However, there is still marked difficult to recognize defects by PD methods. In this paper, we investigated properties of PD in solid insulation by using statistical method with surface discharge, electrical tree and void discharge with source of discharge, we used statistical parameters of PD distributions specified such as $H_n(q)$, $H_{an}(\phi)$, $H_n(\phi)$, $H_a(\phi)$. The parameters induced from its specified distributions are average discharge, average repetition rate, Skewness, Kurtosis, asymmetry and correlation. From the parameters, we classified PD patterns and built up DB(data-base).

To improve the productivity of 1,3-propanediol(1,3-PD) with K. pneumoniae DSM4799 using pure glycerol and crude glycerol derived from the biodiesel process, optimizing fermentation conditions was performed by changing environmental factors such as anaerobic/aerobic condition, temperature, glycerol concentration, and pH. When anaerobic conditions were maintained, there was an improved 1,3-PD production compared with that from aerobic/anaerobic 2-stage fermentation. From the results with temperature $26{\sim}37^{\circ}C$, the higher 1,3-PD production yield was observed at $30{\sim}33^{\circ}C$. For an initial glycerol concentration higher than 60 g/L, cell growth and 1,3-PD production were inhibited. When crude glycerol was used, the initial 1,3-PD production appeared to be inhibited. After 48 hr of incubation, however, 1,3-PD production with crude glycerol was even higher than that with pure glycerol, demonstrating the feasibility of 1,3-PD production using crude glycerol as a substrate. Fed-batch fermentation was applied for the high concentration of 1,3-PD without substrate inhibition. By regulating pH at 7 during the fed-batch with glycerol lower than 40 g/L, the yield of 1,3-PD was 25% higher than that without pH regulation(0.56 g/g vs. 0.45 g/g). In conclusion, based on our results, anaerobic conditions, temperature at $30^{\circ}C$, pure or crude glycerol lower than 40 g/L, and pH regulation at 7 were the optimized conditions for 1,3-PD production using K. pneumoniae DSM4799, making it more feasible to produce 1,3-PD at higher concentration and a lower price.

4-probe resistivity measurement technique was used to study kinetics of hydrogen absorption on Pd film ($180{\AA}$ thick) in the ${\alpha}$ phase. Hydrogen gas was introduced to the activated Pd film. For very low hydrogen concentration the following rate law is valid in ${\alpha}$ phase very thin Pd film $$v=k\frac{1}{1+KX{_H}}PH{_2}-k^{\prime}\frac{KX{_H}{^2}}{1+KX{_H}}$$ which is similar to that of bulk. The activation energy of the forward reaction is 4.6kcal/mol H and of the backward reaction 8.4kcal/mol H, which yields the reaction enthalpy -3.8kcal/mol H in the temperature range between 25 and $40^{\circ}C$. The values of activation and enthalpy of thin film are rather smaller than that of bulk sample. This may be due to surface area difference between bulk and film.
The C3H8 gas sensitivities of SnO2, Pd-SnO2, Pt-SnO2 gas sensor are looked over with the impregnation method of PdCl2, H2PtCl6 solution on SnO2. The Cl- ion due to incomplete decomposition of PdCl2 at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min decrease the C3H8 gas sensitivity of SnO2, and the sensitivity is increased by the impreganation of H2PtCl6 solution on SnO2 because of its lower decomposition temperature compared with PdCl2. The C3H8 gas sensitivities of Pd-SnO2, Pt-SnO2 impregnated slightly after 1st sintering are larger than that of pure SnO2 sensor because very small amount of Cl- ion exist in sample due to smaller amount of impregnaiton.
Compound PdCl₂(Phc≡N)₂(1) reacted with 2,6-diisopropylaniline to give trans-[Pd(NH₂-C/sub 6/-H₃-2, 6-i-Pr₂)₂Cl₂] (2). Compound 2 was characterized by spectroscopy (¹H-NMR, /sup 13/C-NMR, and IR) and X-ray diffraction. Crystallographic data for 2: monoclinic space group P2₁/n, a=13.532(3) Å, b=5.749(1) Å, c=17.880(4)Å, β=103.84(2)°, Z=2, R(wR₂)=0.0466(0.1226).
In this experiment, an α-Al2O3 ceramic hollow fiber was used as a support, and a hydrogen membrane plated with Pd and Pd-Ag was manufactured through electroless plating. The Pd-Ag membrane was annealed at 500℃ for 10 h to form an alloy of Pd and Ag. It was confirmed that it became a Pd-Ag alloy through EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) analysis. Also, the thickness of the Pd, Pd-Ag plating layer was measured to be about 8.98 and 9.29 ㎛ through SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis respectively. Hydrogen permeation experiment was performed using the H2 gas and mixed gas (H2 and N2) in the range of 350~450℃ and 1-4 bar using the prepared hydrogen membrane. Under the H2 gas condition, the Pd and Pd-Ag membrane has a flux of up to 21.85 and 13.76 mL/cm2·min and also separation factors of 1216 and 361 were obtained in the mixed gas at 450℃ and 4 bar conditions respectively.
