  • Modern society is deepening people's interest in healthy life. Therefore, the development of research and service related to health is proceeding. In the IT field, healthcare systems using information in the medical field are being developed. Most systems utilize PC and smart TV or use smart phones to provide users with information and movement-related information in the healthcare field. However, algorithms and systems that accurately analyze user 's body information are in development stage. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a system that provides information to the user by analyzing the BMI (Body Mass Index) index and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) of the user. The information provided to the user suggests appropriate exercise intensity, appropriate level of exercise, and fitness equipment that are appropriate for the user's body, unlike conventional fitness systems that detect motion and show the calories consumed. In addition, the user can perform efficient exercise based on the recommended information.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of frankincense oil in a skin aging animal model. Skin aging was induced by both the irradiation of UVB and the application of squalene monohydroperoxide (Sq-OOH) to the back of experimental animals for 4 weeks. And at the same time experimental materials were applied topically. Six to seven weeks female SHR-1 hairless mice were divided into five groups including normal (N: saline), control (C: UVB+Sq-OOH+saline), vehicle control (VC: UVB+Sq-OOH+jojoba oil), positive control (PC: UVB+Sq-OOH+0.01% retinoic acid) and experimental (E: UVB+Sq-OOH+3% Frankincense oil) groups, five animals each group. The skin erythema index for the PC and E groups were lower than that of the C group. Whereas, both the lipid and water capacities for the PC and E groups were higher than those of the C group. Wrinkles for the C group were formed as a pattern of deep furrows and thick crests. Whereas, wrinkles for the PC and E groups were formed as a pattern of shallow furrows and thin crests which were similar to that of the N group. As for the both absolute and relative weight of the spleen, the PC group were significantly higher than the other groups. In conclusion, frankincense oil can be used practically for the prevention or improvement of skin aging in terms of health promotion and beauty for the people.

  • A novel sulfonate flame retardant, 1,3,5,7-tetrakis(phenyl-4-sodium sulfonate)adamantane (FR-A), was successfully synthesized from 1-bromoadamantane in sequential four-step reactions involving Fiedel-Crafts phenylation, sulphonation, hydrolysis, and neutralization. The success of synthesis was confirmed by FTIR spectra, $^1H$ NMR spectra, elemental analyses and mass spectra. The effect of FR-A on the flame retardacy of polycarbonate (PC) has been studied. Limiting oxygen index (LOI) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that this novel sulfonate flame retardant had effective flame retardancy on polycarbonate (PC). With a small amount (0.08 wt%) of FR-A, the flame retardancy of PC was improved obviously, which got to UL 94 V-0 rating. TGA and DTA curves demonstrated that the additive raised the degradation rate of PC by promoting the quick formation of an insulating carbon layer on the surface, and confirmed that the flame retardant mechanism of PC/FR-A system was similar to potassium diphenylsulfone sulfonate (KSS).

  • This study investigated the clinical parameters of atopic dermatitis and evaluated the inhibitory effects of Black currant seed oil for atopic dermatitis by using a Dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB) induced BALB/c mice model. Five-week-old BALB/c mice were divided into four groups: normal group (N, non-treated), control group (C, atopic dermatitis-induced), positive control group (PC, Tacrolimus ointment-treated against induced atopic dermatitis, PC), experiment group (E, Black currant seed oil-treated against induced atopic dermatitis). After induction of atopic dermatitis by DNCB, the erythema, edema, eschar, and scratching were severely observed. The symptoms of atopic dermatitis were improved after 2 weeks, and almost disappeared after 4 weeks in PC and E group. The increased frequencies of scratching in C group were decreased in PC and E group. Transepidermal water loss, erythema index and serum IgE level were significantly decreased in E and PC compared to that in C after 4 weeks of the treatment. The results indicated that Black currant seed oil can relieve atopic dermatitis symptoms effectively, and may be possibly used as a functional material for suppression of atopic dermatitis.

  • The optical and physical and characteristics of hydrogel ophthalmic lens polymerized with addition of 2,6-difluoropyridine, SiPc(silicon 2,9,16,23-tetra-tert-butyl-29H31H-phthalocyanine dihydroxide) and nanodiamond in the basic hydrogel material were evaluated. In particular, the utility of 2,6-difluoropyridine, SiPc and nanodiamond as a hydrogel ophthalmic lens material was investigated. 2,6-difluoropyridine, SiPc and nanodiamond were used as additives. And also, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate and a cross-linker EGDMA were copolymerized in the presence of AIBN as an initiator. The refractive index of 1.4348~1.4361, water content of 33.30~34.02%, UV-B transmittance of 4.77~67.50%, UV-A transmittance of 1.45~89.19% and visible transmittance of 32.12~92.21% were obtained. The results of hydrogel lens containing 2,6-difluoropyridine (add 5%) showed antibiosis for staphylococcus aureus. The produced copolymer is suitable for hydrogel soft ophthalmic lenses with antibiotic and anti-UV effect.

  • For transdermal delivery of ceramides, various liposomes formulations were studied and evaluated. Sodium deoxycholate (SDC), Tween 20 and Span 85 were used as edge activators. The skin permeation of ceramides was performed using a Franz cell apparatus with hairless mouse skin. Among edge activators, SDC showed the higher values of deformability index and skin permeation than did others. For optimization of formulations, we varied the ratios of lipids to edge activators and the compositions between phosphatidylcholine (PC) and ceramides. The optimal ratio of lipid to SDC was observed to be 6:1 (w:w) and that of PC and ceramide was 1:1. Our results suggest that the skin permeation of ceramides could be enhanced by optimized deformable formulations of liposomes containing SDC as a major edge activator.

  • AIN thin films were deposited on silicon and glass substrates by sputtering Al target and introducing mixed gases of argon and nitrogen into reactive RF magnetron sputter. The substrate was not heated to protect the PC (polycarbonate) substrate and the micro-sized pregroove morphology on the surface of PC substrate. But its temperature was around $100^{\circ}C$ due to the self-heating by plasma. The crystallinity, cross-section morphology and refractive index were characterized by changing various deposition parameters.

  • This study aimed to investigate the permeable nature of pervious concretes (PC) through the moving particle simulation (MPS) method. In the simulation, the complex structure of a pervious concrete was virtually demonstrated as a lattice model (LM) of spherical beads, where the test of permeability was conducted. Results of the simulation were compared with the experimental ones for validation. As a result, MPS results showed the permeability index of the LM as almost twice as big as the actual PCs. A proposed virtual model was created to prevent the stuck of water flow in the MPS simulation of PC or LM. Successful simulation results were demonstrated with the model.

  • Compared to acupuncture, the pulsed magnetic field (PMF) stimulus is a useful tool for treatment of many physical conditions and health maintenance due to its advantages as a noninvasive and nontoxic medical treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PMF stimulus direction at PC9 on the alpha activity of electroencephalogram (EEG) and vascular aging calculated from photoplethysmograph (PPG). It can be concluded that the direction of PMF stimulus affects the increase of alpha activity of EEG and PPG, indicating the vascular stiffness and the sclerosis level of blood vessels weakly relevant to the direction of PMF stimulus.

  • Much research into two-dimensional (2-D) photonic crystal (PC) structures has been conducted for realization of ultrasmall optical integrated circuits. A 2-D silicon (Si) PC slab structure with air cladding (n=1) is one of the representative structures in 2-D PCs. While air-clad Si PC slab structures have good optical characteristics, their suspension in air can lead to mechanical weakness, making integration with some optical devices difficult. In this paper, we propose improving the mechanical robustness of PC structure by developing a 2-D Si PC structure with symmetric silica cladding (n=1.44) and comparing its optical properties to that of the air-clad structure. First, we investigate the optical properties of a 2-D Si PC slab structure with air cladding by using a 3-D finite difference time domain method. We determined that a photonic bandgap of 330 nm and a non-leaky propagating bandwidth of 100 nm in the optical communication range are possible. Next, we investigate the optical properties of 2-D Si PC slab structures with silica cladding. Even though the refractive index of the silica cladding is higher than that of air, we developed a silica-clad structure with good optical properties: a photonic band gap of approximately 230 nm and a non-leaky propagating bandwidth of 90 nm, comparable to that of the air-clad PC structures.
