New composites based on low-density polyethylene and rice husk: Elemental and thermal characteristics

  • We developed new composites by combining the solid waste from Low-Density Polyethylene in the form of plastic bag (PB) and biomass from rice husk (RH),in the form of $(RH)_x(PB)_{1-x}$ (x = (1, 0.9, 0.7, 0.5)), as alternative fuels for electrical energy sources, and for providing the best solution to reduce environmental pollution. Elemental compositions were obtained by using proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and the thermal characteristics were obtained from thermogravimetric analysis. The compositions of carbon and hydrogen from the ultimate analysis show significant increases of 20-30% with increasing PB in the composite. The activation energy for RH is 101.22 kJ/mol; for x = 0.9 and 0.7, this increases by 4 and 6 magnitude, respectively, and for x = 0.5, shows remarkable increase to 165.30 kJ/mol. The range of temperature of about $480-660^{\circ}C$ is required for combustion of the composites $(RH)_x(PB)_{1-x}$ (x = (1, 0.9, 0.7, 0.5)) to perform the complete combustion process and produce high energy. In addition, the calorific value was determined by using bomb calorimetry, and shows value for RH of 13.44 MJ/kg, which increases about 30-40% with increasing PB content, indicating that PB has a strong effect of increasing the energy realized to generate electricity.

  • 본 연구에서는 페로스카이트 구조를 갖고 있는 란타늄 망간산화물인 $La_{1-x}Pb_{x}MnO_{3}$(x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) 합금에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 무엇보다도 이들 재료는 다른 계열의 재료에 비해 낮은 자기열량효과를 보이나 제조하기 쉬운 산화물이라는 것과 가격이 매우 저렴하다는 장점을 갖고 있어 유용한 자기냉각소재로서 기대가 되어지고 있는 물질이다. $LaMnO_3$ 합금에서 La을 Pb로 치환할 때 치환량에 따른 자기적 특성과 자기열량효과를 측정하였다. 자기적인 특성을 측정하기 위하여 진동시료형 자력계(VSM) 를 이용하여 자기이력곡선과 자기모멘트의 온도의존성을 측정하였고 자기열량효과의 간접적인 측정방법인 자기엔트로피변화를 측정하기 위하여 큐리온도 근처에서 외부자기장의 변화에 따른 자기모멘트의 변화를 측정하였다. 자기열랑효과의 직접적인 측정방법인 단열온도변화를 측정하기 위하여 제작한 cryostat을 이용하여 큐리온도 근처에서 외부자기장의 변화에 따른 $LaPbMnO_3$ 합금의 단열온도변화를 측정하였다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 Pb 치환량이 증가함에 따라 쌍교환작용(double-exchange interaction)이 작게 변화하여 자기엔트로피 변화를 크게 함을 알 수 있었다.

결정화유리의 첨가에 의한 BNT계 세라믹스의 저온소결 및 마이크로파 유전특성 (Sintering and Dielectric Properties of BaO-Nd2O3-TiO2 Microwave Ceramics with Glass-Ceramics)

  • BaO-Nd$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$계 마이크로파 유전체 세라믹스에 결정화유리를 첨가하여 세라믹-결정화유리 복합체 유전재료를 제작하여, 적층 일체형 RF수동소자 모듈 구현을 위한 저온소결 유전재료로서의 응용가능성에 대해 검토하였다. BaO-Nd$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$계 유전체 세라믹스에 PbO-TiO$_2$-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ 조성의 결정화 유리를 5∼30 wt% 범위로 첨가하여 소결온도를 130$0^{\circ}C$에서 105$0^{\circ}C$까지 낮출 수 있었으며, 첨가량의 증가에 따라 유리의 연화로 인한 소결밀도의 증가 및 입성장이 뚜렷하게 관찰되었다. 특히, 결정화 유리를 20 wt% 이상 첨가하였을 경우, 105$0^{\circ}C$의 소결온도에서 95% 이상의 상대밀도를 갖는 양호한 소결체를 얻을 수 있었고, 이 때 유전을($\varepsilon$$_{r}$)은 72, 품질계수(Q-f)는 1500이었고, 공진주파수 온도계수($ au$$_{f}$)는 22ppm/$^{\circ}C$을 나타내었다. 이러한 높은 유전율은 유리속의 결정상 PbTiO$_3$의 존재에 기인한 것이다.

서울시 가로수의 연륜층 및 식재주변 토양의 증금속 농도와 연륜 생장 (Heavy Metal Concentrations in Tree Ring Layer and Soil and Tree Ring Growth of Roadside Trees in Seoul)

  • 본 연구는 서울 도심에 위치한 가로수 중에서 수령이 30년 이상 된 양버즘나무(Platanus occidentalis L.)와 은행나무(Ginkgo biloba L.)를 대상으로 토양 및 가로수의 연륜층별로 중금속 농도를 분석하여 이들 중금속이 가로수의 연륜 생장에 미치는 영향 정도를 비교 검토하였다. 가로수가 식재되어 있는 토양의 pH는 $6.62{\sim}8.01$이었으며, 중금속 평균농도는 Cr 0.63, Zn 109.03, Pb 26.49, Ni 1.98, Cu 44.98 mg/kg으로써 이 중 Zn, Pb, Cu의 농도는 일반 산림토양보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 금속 및 철물을 취급하는 상가가 밀집해 있고 차량통행이 많은 청계 2가 지역의 중금속 농토가 가장 높게 나타났다. 가로수의 연륜폭을 1979년부터 2000년까지 측정하여 회귀식으로 나타낸 결과, 두 수종 모두 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 또한, 토양 내 Cr, Pb, Cu의 농도는 양버즘나무의 최근 5년간 연륜층 내 Cr, Pb, Cu 농도와 양의 상관관계를 보였으며, 토양 내 Ni 농도는 은행나무의 연륜층 내 Ni 농도와 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 양버즘나무의 5년 단위 연륜층별 Cr 농도와 은행나무의 5년 단위 연륜층별 Ni, Cu 농도는 각각 연륜생장에 음의 상관관계를 나타냈다. 한편 서울지역의 연평균 기온, 강수량, 강수일수와 연륜폭의 연도별 변화 경향은 유사하였으나 통계적으로 유의성은 인정되지 않았다.

폴리에틸렌 미세플라스틱과 납의 복합노출에 따른 실험동물의 세포면역기능 조절 장애 평가 (Dysregulation of Cellular Immune Functions on Gastric Administration to Mixtures of Polyethlene Microplastics and Metallic Lead in Mice)

  • Background: The existing research results on the combined toxicity of these pollutants using mammals, such as rodents, are insufficient, especially in relation to changes in the immune system. Objectives: This study aims at evaluating the cellular immune response to PE-MPs solely or when combined with Pb, which possess excellent adsorption capacity with PE-MPs and is commonly co-exposed in our daily lives. Methods: The study investigated the cellular immune function of 9-week ICR mice with 28 days exposure to PE-MPs (2 mg/mouse/day) and Pb (0.1 mM in distilled water) individually and in combination. PE-MPs were administered via gastric intubation while the lead intake was conducted via the oral drinking water route. Cellular immunity was evaluated by analyzing the production for TH1 cytokines namely, TNF-α and IFN-𝛾 and TH2 cytokines, IL-4 and IL-6 in culture supernatants from polyclonally activated splenic mononuclear cells ex vivo. Results: Both the PE-MPs only and the PE-MPs+Pb exposure group revealed an increased TH1 response with elevated TNF-α and IFN-𝛾 levels and downregulated TH2 response with low IL-4, and IL-6 production levels compared to the control group. Furthermore, an increased IFN-𝛾/IL-4 ratio was found in the PE-MPs only and PE-MPs+Pb exposure groups, which indicated the skewedness to TH1 response. Meanwhile, reduced blood hemoglobin levels and increased levels of IL-4, the dominant TH2 cytokine in the Pb-only exposure group, were observed. Conclusions: Our current findings on the predominance of TH1 immune response in the PE-MPs and PE-MPs+Pb groups suggest that PE-MPs could be responsible for the predominant induction of the cellular immune changes. This finding could be used as an important landmark in research related to TH1 predominance, such as autoimmune diseases. It suggests that additional research on immune modulation using longer exposure durations or the same exposure route is required to elucidate stronger findings.

Polyacrylamide 고흡수성 수지의 혼합 비율이 상토의 물리성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Incorporation Rate of Polyacrylamide Hydrogel on Changes in Physical Properties of Root Media)

  • 본 연구는 혼합상토의 보수성 증가를 위하여 polyacrylamide 고흡수성 수지 Stocksorb C를 혼합할 경우 상토의 물리성에 미치는 영향을 밝히기 위하여 수행하였다. 네종류 혼합상토, 피트모쓰 + 버미큘라이트(1:1 , v/v; PV), 피트모쓰+부숙왕겨(1:1, v/v; PR), 피트모쓰+부숙톱밥(1:1, v/v; PS), 그리고 피트모쓰+부숙수피(1:1, v/v; PB)를 조제하는 과정에서 STSB를 혼합하고, 플라스틱 포트에 충전하였으며, 5주 후에 상토의 물리적 특성을 측정하였다. STSB의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 PV, PS 및 PB 상토의 공극률이 증가하여 $5{\%}$ 수준의 통계적인 차이가 인정되었고, 직선 또는 2차곡선회귀가 성립하여 경향을 찾을 수 있었다. STSB의 혼합비율 증가로 PS와 PB상토의 용기용수량이 뚜렷하게 증가하였으나 PV 및 PR상토에서는 STSB의 혼합비율에 따른 처리간 차이가 인정되지 않았다. 특히 STSB의 혼합은 PV PS및 PB 상토의 기상률을 뚜렷하게 증가시켜 처리간 통계적인 차이와 함께 직선 및 2차곡선회귀가 성립하여 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 고흡수성 수지의 혼합비율이 높아질수록 4.90 kPa, 9.81 kPa, 29.4 kPa및 1.5 MPa 토양 수분장력 하에서 존재하는 수분량이 많았다. 각 상토별로 29.4 kPa이나 1.5 MPa에서 존재하는 수분은 PV 혼합상토에서 적었고, PB와 PR 혼합상토에서 유사한 수준이었으며, PS 혼합상토에서 가장 많았다. 이는 고흡수성 수지의 혼합비율이 높아짐에 따라 상토가 보유하는 수분량이 증가하지만 식물이 쉽게 흡수할 수 있는 수분량이 증가하지 않음을 의미한다.

Studies on the Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Hg and Cr in Dog Serum in Korea

  • Heavy metal pollution has become a serious health concern in recent years. Dogs are a very good indicator of the pollution load on the environment. They share people's environment and are exposed to the action of the same pollutants. This study estimated the heavy metal contents in the serum of dogs in domestic districts, and assessed the age, sex, feeding habits, living area, breeding environment and smoking habit of the owners. The findings suggest that dogs can be used to monitor the environmental quality of heavy metals. The mean concentrations of heavy metals in the dog serum from 204 samples (108 male and 96 female) were 0.22${\pm}$0.01 $\mu$g/ml, 0.24${\pm}$0.04 $\mu$g/ml, 0.61${\pm}$0.08 $\mu$g/ml, and 0.50${\pm}$0.06 $\mu$g/ml (for Cd, Hg, Pb, and Cr), respectively. Concentrations of Pb, Cd, Hg, and Cr in the dog serum were higher in Yeongnam including Ulsan, and Seoul higher than those of Chungchong and Honam, especially Pb concentration, which was significantly higher (p<0.01). Concentrations of Cd, Hg, Pb, and Cr in serum, were increased by age (p<0.05). When commercial pet food was provided to dogs, Cd and Cr concentrations were significantly higher in dog serum than dogs fed a human diet (p<0.01 in Cd and p<0.05 in Cr). Heavy metal concentrations of dogs owned by smoking owners, were higher than non-smoking owners although there was no significant difference.

서울시 일원의 토양 중금속오염도 조사 (Studies on the Pollution of Heavy Metals in the Soils of Seoul Area)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the Pollution of heavy metals in Soil, collected from the 50 sampling sites in 1986. The results were as follows; 1. In the average contents of Cd, the highest value was 0.33mg/kg in the Industrial area, the lowest value was 0.06 mg/kg in the Greenbelt and 0.10-0.22mg/kg in the other areas. 2. In the average contents of Cu, the highest value was 33.46mg/kg in the Industrial area, the lawest value was 3.79mg/kg in the Greenbelt and 4.69-12.21mg/kg in the other areas. 3. In the average contents of As, the highest value was 1.80mg kg in the Residential area, the lowest value was 0.43mg/kg in the Greenbelt and 0.64-1.65mg/kg in the other areas. 4. In the average contents of Zn, the highest value was 29.84mg/kg in the out wall of Seoul, the lowest value was 17.32mg/kg in the Greenbelt and 19.62-26.71mg/kg in the other areas. 5. In the average contents of Pb, the highest value was 17.09mg/kg in the Industrial area, the lowest value was 5.21mg/kg in the Reclamated waste and 5.67 -14.10mg/kg in the other areas. 6. Distribution of Heavy metals was Zn>Cu>Pb>As>Cd and the relations of Zn-Cd, Pb-Cd, Pb-Cu, Pb-Zn were shown the correlation significantly (P< 0.01).

효소활성을 이용한 Moina macrocopa의 중금속 독성 검정 (Heavy Metal Toxicity Test in Moina macrocopa with Enzyme Activity)

  • A rapid, inexpensive enzymatic method is proposed for indirect water quality testing in terms of heavy metal toxicity. The activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase was applied for heavy metal toxicity test as an effective criterion in water quality. The toxicity of Pb (lead) and Cd (cadmium) for water flea, Moina macrocopa, were evaluated for $2{\sim}8\;days$ with variables of mobilization ability. And the reproduction impairment of Moina macrocopa were investigated as the parameter of chronic toxicity twst for Pb and Cd. As a result, the $EC_{50}$ for immobilization of Moina macrocopa were Pb and Cd were 1.6749 and 0.4683, respectively. The values of reproducive impairment to Moina macrocopa for Pb and Cd were 9.5938 and 8.3264 in $EC_{50}$. A significant alteration of G6PDH (Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) activity of Moina macrocopa was observed when Cd and Pb were treated in media. The results obtained indicate that G6PDH activity of Moina macrocopa can be used as an indicative parameter in aquatic toxicity tests for heavy metals.

  • we prepared 70K new BiPbAgSrCaCuO superconductor used diffusion of dual layer which composed of SrCaCuO and BiPbAgCuO compound. This method is used permeation and diffusion on partial melting point of BiPbAgCuO compound. Samples were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction analysis, Thermal analysis, critical temperature and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the best results were obtained for spread volume (A:B=1:0.6) and sintring time 210hours.
