저온 충격강도 및 대전방지성 향상을 위한 개질 EPDM을 함유한 polyamide alloy의 제조 및 물성 (Preparation and Characterization of Polyamide/MEPDM Alloy to Improve a Low Temperature Impact Strength and Antistatic Property)

  • Alloys of nylon(PA6) and ethylene-propylene-diene polymer, modified with maleic anhydride(MEPDM) were prepared using a melt kneading process. This study focuses on the effects of the content of MEPDM in PA6 blend on the mechanical and thermal properties of such blends where MEPDM is the dispersed phase. Mechanical properties were examined by stress-strain measurements and impact strength test. Both impact strength of PA6/MEPDM at room temperature and at $-20^{\circ}C$ were improved up to 400-550% with the amounts of MEPDM. However, PA6/MEPDM containing 3-5 wt% of MEPDM showed the about $700kg_f/m^2$ of the maximum tensile strength but 8.5 % of the lowest elongation. For certain compositions of PA6 with rubbery MEPDM, the interesting reduction of elongation is caused by the reaction of the polyamide amine end groups with maleic anhydride portion in MEPDM, that provided a reinforcement in the PA6 matrix. In addition, the introduction of antistatic agent on the surface of alloys causes significant reduction of their surface electrostatic resistance.

구기자 및 혼합구기자 열수 추출 농축액의 리올로지적 특성 (Rheological Properties of Hot-Water Extractable Concentrates of Boxthorn (Lycii Fructus) and Mixed Boxthorn)

  • 구기자의 이용 및 활용을 확대 증진시키기 위해서 구기자 및 기호성을 향상시키기 위해 바른 생약류가 소량 혼합된 혼합구기자 열수 추출 농축액의 리올로지적 특성을 조사 비교한 결과는 다음과 같다. 각각의 농축액들은 power law model에 잘 적용되어 해석할 수 있었으며, 모두 비뉴톤 유체로서 의가소성 유체의 흐름특성을 보여주었다. 전단속도 1,500 l/s, $20^{\circ}C$ 에서의 겉보기 점도는 혼합구기자 $50^{\circ}Bx(0.1940\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 구기자 $50^{\circ}Bx(0.0988\;Pa{\cdot}s),$ 혼합구기자 $40^{\circ}Bx(0.0720\;Pa{\cdot}s)$. 구기자 $40^{\circ}Bx(0.0431\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 혼합구기자 $30^{\circ}Bx(0.0328\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 구기자 $30^{\circ}Bx(0.0175\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 혼합구기자 $20^{\circ}Bx(0.0099\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 설탕용액 $50^{\circ}Bx(0.0078\;Pa{\cdot}s)$, 구기자 $20^{\circ}Bx(0.0074\;Pa{\cdot}s)$ 농축액 순이었다. 농축액들의 항복력은 구기자 열수 추출 농축액이 $0.1286{\sim}6.2532\;Pa{\cdot}s$, 혼합구기자 열수 추출농축액 $0.074{\sim}8.891\;Pa{\cdot}s$이었다. Arrhenius식에 의해 구한 유동 활성화에너지는 $20^{\circ}Bx$에서 $50^{\circ}Bx$로 농도가 증가할 때 구기자 열수 추출 농축액은 $1.6182{\sim}2.0543$, 혼합구기자 열수 추출 농축액은 $1.7057{\sim}2.1462{\times}10^7\;J/kg{\cdot}mol$로 증가하였다. 이와 같이 구기자 열수 추출 농축액과 혼합구기자 열수 추출 농축액의 리올리지적 특성에 큰 차이를 나타내지는 않았다.

  • 뇌졸중 치료에 사용되는 tPA는 탁월한 혈전 용해 효과를 보이고 있어 혈액의 흐름을 용이하게 하는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러나 tPA 치료법은 매우 짧은 시간 내에 사용해야하는 단점과 출혈, 부종과 같은 여러 가지 부작용이 수반될 수 있기 때문에 매우 제한적이다. 이전의 실험 결과에 따르면 tPA의 이러한 양면적인 현상은 MMP의 활성 조절과 관련이 있는 것으로 보고되어 있으나 세포시스템을 활용한 이들의 직접적인 효과나 조절 기전에 대한 연구는 거의 알려져 있지 않다. 본 연구는 임상에서 사용되는 tPA의 부정적인 효과를 극복하기 위한 방안을 모색하고자 tPA와 MMP 활성과의 조절 기전을 살펴보았다. 랫트의 뇌로부터 추출한 신경세포에서 tPA의 처리는 MMP의 발현을 촉진시켰고 저산소상태에서 tPA에 의한 MMP활성 증가가 더욱 가속화되었으며 JNK 신호전달 경로를 통해 조절되는 것을 확인하였다.

  • Bacillus anthracis Sterne 34F$_2$균주로부터 PA를 생산하기 위해 RM배지를 변형하였다. NaHCO$_3$를 8 g/l에서 10 g/l로, glucose를 5 g/l로 첨가하여 새로운 배지조성에서 탄저균을 배양한 후, 배양액을 hydroxyapatite를 이용하여 농축하였다. 농축된 조단백질을 hydroxyapatite column chromatography, DEAE-Sepharose CL-4B column chromatography 및 Toyo-pearl gel filtration chromatography를 사용하여 PA를 정제하였다. 변형된 RM 배지를 사용해 얻은 PA 양은 8.6 mg/l 이었다.

Physical Activity and Cancer Prevention: Awareness and Meeting the Recommendations among Adult Saudis

  • Background: There is a scarcity of information about the proportion of the adult Saudi population that meet the recommended guidelines of physical activity (PA) to reduce cancer risk. Moreover, their awareness about the role of PA in cancer prevention is unclear. Objectives: This cross-sectional study aimed at estimating the proportion of adult Saudis meeting the PA guidelines, specifically those recommended by American Cancer Society (ACS) for cancer prevention, and to assess the public awareness about the role of PA in cancer prevention. Materials and Methods: Using a multistage sampling method, 2,127 adult Saudis of both genders were recruited from 6 urban and 4 rural primary health care centers in Al Hassa, Saudi Arabia. Participants were personally interviewed to gather information about their sociodemographic characteristics, searching activity about PA and cancer, and the time spent in leisure time PA (moderate and vigorous)/week using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire with show cards. Finally, items about the role of PA in cancer risk reduction were inquired. Results: Of the included participants, 11.6% met the recommendations for cancer prevention (${\geq}45$ minutes of moderate-vigorous PA activity/${\geq}5$ days/week or 225 minutes/week). Multivariate regression showed that being male (AOR=1.49, CI=1.09-2.06), <20 years of age (AOR=3.11, CI=2.03-4.76), and unemployed (AOR=2.22, CI=1.57-3.18) were significant predictors for meeting PA recommendations for cancer prevention. Only 11.4% of the sample indicated correctly the frequency and duration of PA required for an average adult to be physically active and while >70% of them indicated the role of PA in prevention of hypertension, coronary heart disease and lowering elevated blood cholesterol, only 18.6% and 21.7% correctly mentioned the role of PA in reducing colon and breast cancer risk, respectively. Poor knowledge was found among those with less than college education and aged ${\geq}50$ years. The level of knowledge was significantly positively correlated with total leisure time PA of the participants. Conclusions: A minority of adult Saudis in Al Hassa was aware about the role of PA in cancer prevention and engaged in sufficient LTPA for cancer risk reduction benefits, highlighting the need for public health actions to include policies and programs that address factors deterring their participation in LTPA and increasing their awareness with remedies to manage the prevalent misconceptions.

Maximal strength and endurance scores of the tongue, lip, and cheek in healthy, normal Koreans

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to establish normative data for healthy Korean adults by measuring the maximal strength and endurance scores of the tongue, lip, and cheek, and to examine correlations between these measurements. Materials and Methods: This study included 120 subjects that were divided into three groups according to age: young (20-39 years), middle-aged (40-59 years), and older (over 60 years); and by gender. Measurements were taken using the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument (IOPI). Results: The mean maximal tongue strengths were as follows: young men ($46.7{\pm}10.2kPa$) and women ($32.1{\pm}7.9kPa$), middle-aged men ($40.9{\pm}9.3kPa$) and women ($36.9{\pm}8.6kPa$), and older men ($35.2{\pm}9.0kPa$) and women ($34.5{\pm}6.9kPa$). The mean tongue endurance scores were: young men ($28.8{\pm}12.6$ seconds) and women ($20.8{\pm}13.5$ seconds), middle-aged men ($17.0{\pm}8.5$ seconds) and women ($15.3{\pm}5.2$ seconds), and older men ($15.8{\pm}6.7$ seconds) and women ($17.9{\pm}8.1$ seconds). The mean maximal lip strengths were: young men ($11.6{\pm}3.0kPa$) and women ($11.4{\pm}3.8kPa$), middle-aged men ($11.4{\pm}4.2kPa$) and women ($11.1{\pm}5.1kPa$), and older men ($14.5{\pm}3.9kPa$) and women ($11.7{\pm}2.6kPa$). The mean lip endurance scores were: young men ($41.1{\pm}23.9$ seconds) and women ($22.4{\pm}21.7$ seconds), middle-aged men ($24.3{\pm}10.3$ seconds) and women ($30.5{\pm}13.4$ seconds), and older men ($24.9{\pm}11.0$ seconds) and women ($12.8{\pm}7.6$ seconds). The mean maximal cheek strengths were: young men ($24.5{\pm}4.6kPa$) and women ($20.5{\pm}4.3kPa$), middle-aged men ($25.2{\pm}6.4kPa$) and women ($21.2{\pm}5.5kPa$), and older men ($22.4{\pm}5.3kPa$) and women ($18.0{\pm}4.8kPa$). The mean cheek endurance scores were: young men ($47.8{\pm}24.4$ seconds) and women ($43.9{\pm}25.0$ seconds), middle-aged men ($27.3{\pm}11.3$ seconds) and women ($20.0{\pm}14.6$ seconds), and older men ($21.7{\pm}14.5$ seconds) and women ($17.2{\pm}11.4$ seconds). Conclusion: The data collected in this study will provide an important database of standardized measurements for maximal strength and endurance scores of the tongue, lip and cheek in healthy, normal Koreans.

Polycarbonate/Polyamide 6 블랜드의 상용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Compatibility of Polycarbonate/Polyamide 6 Blends)

  • PC/PA6 블랜드를 세 가지 서로 다른 방법으로 블랜드한 후 이들의 상용성에 관하여 조사하였다. DSC에 의한 열적 성질 측정결과, Tg는 전 조성에 있어 각각의 온도부근에서 나타나며, 융점과 결정화온도는 큰 변화가 없었다. SEM관찰 역시 PC, PA6 블랜드는 각각 5%의 아주 낮은 조성에서부터 상분리가 확인되었다. 또한 실험적으로 측정된 Tg값을 Flory- Huggins식에 도입하여 polymer-polymer interaction parameter(${\chi}_{12}$)값을 계산한 결과, solution casting, solution precipitation, 압출블랜드의 경우 0.0381, 0.0411, 0.0418로 각각 계산되었으며, ${\chi}_{12}$의 임계값 $({\chi}_{12})_c$가 0.0271로 계산됨에 따라 결국 PC/PA6 블랜드는 전 조성에 걸쳐 상용성이 부족하였다.

효소적 가수분해에 의한 홍게껍질 단백질의 특성 (Characteristics of protein from red crab (Chionoecetes japonicus) shell by commercial proteases)

  • 본 연구는 폐기되는 홍게껍질의 단백질을 활용하기 위하여 홍게껍질 분말에 상업적으로 사용하는 6가지 protease를 단일 또는 혼합처리하여 획득한 가용성 가수분해물의 분자량 및 아미노산 조성 등을 비교 분석하여 기능성 소재 및 보충제로서의 활용 가능성을 확인하고자 하였다. 단일효소 6종 중 단백질 분해능은 Biuret assay과 280 nm assay 및 $^{\circ}Brix$로 분석한 결과 Protease A (PA)가 현저하게 높았다. 단일효소 처리로 생성된 가수분해물의 단백질 분자량은 150 kDa 이하의 밴드를 형성하였다. 단일효소 중 단백질 분해능이 가장 강력한 PA의 최적 가수분해 조건을 선정하여 PA에 Protamex (P), Flavourzyme (F), Alcalase (A), Protease M (PM)과 Protease A (PA)를 1대 1의 비로 혼합 (PA + P, PA + PM, PA + F, PA + A)하여 GC로 아미노산 조성을 확인하였다. 총 아미노산 함량은 PA + P 247.411 mg/g > PA + F (206.442 mg/g) > PA + A (133.385 mg/g) > PA + PM (59.131 mg/g) > PA (54.875 mg/g)의 순으로 혼합효소처리가 단일효소처리에 비해 높은 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 혼합효소처리 한 홍게껍질의 아미노산 조성은 사용 효소에 따라 다소 차이가 있었다. 주로 phenylalanine, glycine, alanine, leucine의 함량이 높았으며 tyrosine, cystine은 검출되지 않았다. 쌀을 주식으로 하는 우리나라 사람들에게 부족되기 쉬운 필수 아미노산인 lysine, phenylalnine, leucine, isoleucine의 함량이 높아 아미노산 보충효과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

피라세탐의 방출조절 및 생체이용률 (Controlled Release and Bioavailability of Piracetam)

  • This study is purposed to develop the sustained release and bioavailability of piracetam (PA). The use of alginate beads as a means to achieve sustained release of piracetam was evaluated in comparison with that of piracetam alone. In the PA-sodium alginate(SA) beads was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry thermogram(DSC), indicating a relative shift of an endometric peak of PA to higher temperature. The changes in dissolution rates from PA-SA beads and PASA beads coated by chitosan(CHO) were significantly slower than that of intact PA. The release rate of PA-SA in the gastric fluid was markedly decreased compared with that in the intestinal fluid, suggesting that PA is mostly released in the intestinal fluid. However, the PA/SA ratio scarcely affected the release profile. The blood concentration- time curves of PA, PA-SA and PA-SA-CHO were obtained by oral administration to rats. $T_{max}$ of PA, PA-SA and PA-SA-CHO were 1, 10 and 6 hours, respectively. It was confirmed that the release of PA was prolonged by the formulation of PA-SA beads and PA-SA-CHO beads.

풍지(風池)(GB20) 억간산(抑肝散) 약침이 국소 뇌손상으로 유발된 흰쥐의 인지장애에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Ukgansan Pharmacopuncture at GB20 on Cognitive Impariment Induced by Focal Brain Injury in Rats)

  • Objectives : This research was performed to investigate the effects of Ukgansan pharmacopuncture(U-PA) of focal brain ischemia induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) in rats. Methods : The subjects were divided into 5 groups : A control group, acupuncture group, pharmacopuncture group U-PA1($2.571mg/250g/40{\mu}{\ell}$), pharmacopuncture group U-PA2($6.428mg/250g/40{\mu}{\ell}$), and pharmacopuncture group U-PA3($12.855mg/250g/40{\mu}{\ell}$). The focal brain ischemia was induced by intraluminal filament insertion into the middle cerebral artery. After 3 days of MCAO, Ukgansan(UGS) pharmacopuncture treatment was performed on the GB20, and the day after being treated with pharmacopuncture, the Morris water maze test was carried out by the assigned group. The series of processes were treated 6 times. Thereafter Bax, Bcl-2, Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, mGluR5, density of neuronal cell, and ChAT were measured. Results : The results were as follows. 1. The intensity of Bax significantly decreased in the U-PA1, U-PA2, U-PA3 groups. 2. The Bax/Bcl-2 ratio significantly decreased in the U-PA3 group compared with the control group. 3. The neuroprotective effect on the hippocampal CA1 significantly increased in the U-PA1, U-PA2, U-PA3 groups compared with the control group. 4. The density of ChAT in the hippocampal CA1 significantly increased in the U-PA1, U-PA2, U-PA3 groups compared with the control group. Conclusion : These results suggest that UGS pharmacopuncture may have anti-apoptotic and neuroprotective effects on focal cerebral ischemia caused by intraluminal filament insertion into the middle cerebral artery in rats.
