We have used FT-IR spectra to explain the effects of hydrogen bonding between chitosan and polycaprolactam (PA6). A dynamic mechanical analysis study suggested that the optimum chitosan and PA6 miscibility under the conditions of this experiment were obtained at a blending ratio of 40:60. We studied the thermal degradation of chitosan blended with PA6 (chitosan/PA6) by thermogravimetric analysis and kinetic analysis (by the Ozawa method). Dry chitosan and PA6 exhibited a single stage of thermal degradation and chitosan/PA6 blends having> 20 wt% PA6 exhibited at least two stages of degradation. In chitosan/PA6 blends, chitosan underwent the first stage of thermal degradation; the second stage proceeded at a temperature lower than that of PA6, because the decomposition product of chitosan accelerated the degradation of PA6. The activation energies of the blends were between 130 and 165 kJ/mol, which are also lower than that of PA6.
In this study, binary polyamide 6,6(PA 6,6)/ethylene-propylene rubber(EPM) or EPM-g-maleic anhydride(EPM-g-MA) blends and ternary PA 6,6/EPM/EPM-g-MA blends with various elastomer content were prepared in order to investigate the degree of influence of elastomer content and average particle size, morphology, and distribution of dispersed elastomer on mechanical and thermal properties of blends. According to the results, notched Izod impact strength and relative crystallinity of binary blends modified with EPM-g-MA as well as average particle size and distribution of dispersed elastomer in such blends were more improved than those of binary blends modified with EPM. Notched Izod impact strength of blend whose composition ratio(wt % ) was 70:30(PA 6,6 : EPM-g-MA) was the highest among the binary PA 6,6/EPM-g-MA blends. The impact strength was increased by 25 times and its relative crystallinity was increased by 7 times when compared with those of polyamide 6,6. In the case of ternary PA 6,6/EPM/EPM-g-MA blend of which composition ratio was 70:15:15(PA 6,6:EPM:EPM-g-MA), the elastomer was finely distributed with the average particle size of $0.56{\mu}m$. The Izod impact strength of this blend was the highest of all blends prepared with different elastomer content.
Melt blends of polyamide 6 (PA 6) with polyester elastomer (PEL) were prepared in a corotating twin screw extruder using two types of coupling agent(CA), viz. diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and 1,4-phenylene bis(2-oxazoline) (PBO). Notched impact strength of PA 6 as well as PA 6/PEL blends increased with the addition of coupling agent, especially with DGEBA and the maximum impact toughening of the blend was obtained with 0.6%(by mol) DGEBA, where a minimum domain size was observed from SEM. Melt viscosities of the untreated blends were higher than those of base resins at low frequencies. Viscosities of base resins as well as blends increased with the addition of CA, and the effect was much more pronounced with DGEBA, especially for PA 6 and PA 6-rich blends.
Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple comparison analysis were performed for shear strengths categorized by breccia content of 5 wt.% (Case-I), 10 wt.%, (Case-II) and 15 wt.% (Case-III) in fault cores. The relationship between breccia contetnt and shear strength was quantitatively classified by calculating the mean and standard deviation of shear strength for each population in each case and then the grouping the breccia contents that had a statistically similar effect on the dispersion of shear strength. As a result, shear strength was clearly classified into group 1 (breccia content of 0-15 wt.%) and group 2 and 3 (breccia coantent of 15-30 wt.% and 30 wt.% or more) in Case-III. Shear strength of the standard line at breccia content of 15 wt.% were determined to be 43.6 kPa, 77.6 kPa, and 118.6 kPa at each normal stress (54 kPa, 108 kPa, and 162 kPa), respectively. In addition, the distribution range of cohesions is 0-43.6 kPa at breccia content of 15 wt.% or less, and 0-70.0 kPa at 15 wt.% or more. Distribution range of friction angles is 0-45.7 ° at breccia content of 15 wt.% or less, and 16.7-57.5 ° at 15 wt.% or more.

Epoxy-based carbon fibers reinforced plastic (CFRP) exhibit limitations in their suitability for industrial applications due to high brittleness characteristics. To address this challenge, extensive investigations are underway to enhance their toughness properties. This research focuses on evaluating the toughening mechanisms achieved by Polyamide 6 particles(p-PA6) and Carboxyl-Terminated Butadiene-Acrylonitrile (CTBN) elastomer, with a specific emphasis on utilizing minimal additive quantities. The study explores the impact of varying concentrations of p-PA6 and CTBN additives, namely 0.5, 1, 2.5, and 5 phr, through comprehensive Mode I fracture toughness and tensile strength analyses. The inclusion of p-PA6 demonstrated improvements in toughness when introduced at a relatively low content of 1phr. This improvement manifested as a sustained fracture behavior, contributing to enhanced toughness, while simultaneously maintaining the material's tensile strength. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the incorporation of p-PA6 affected in particle aggregation, thus influencing the overall toughening mechanism. Incorporation of CTBN, an elastomeric modifier, exhibited a pronounced increase in fracture toughness at higher concentrations of 2.5 phr and beyond. However, this increase in toughness was accompanied by a reduction in tensile strength, resulting in fracture behavior similar to conventional CFRP exhibiting brittleness. The synergy between pPA6, CTBN and CFRP appeared to marginally enhance tensile strength under specific content conditions. As a result of this study, optimized conditions for the application of the p-PA6, CTBN toughening technology have been identified and established.
A modified amidolytic assay and a fibrin plate method were used to accurately measure the concentration of single chain urokinase type plasminogen activator (scu-PA) and two-chain urokinase type plasminogen activator (tc-PA) in the spent media. $1.65{\times}10^6$(viable cells/ml) of maximum cell density and 1670(IU/ml) of scu-PA concentration were obtained in 1% serum containing medium. The overall conversion ratio from scu-PA to tc-PA was less than 10%. In the results of batch cultivation in a spinner vessel, $4.43{\times}10^6(total cells/ml)$ of maximum cell density and 1560(IU/ml) of scu-PA concentration was observed. The maximum scu-PA concentration and specific scu-PA Productivity were obtained in 1760(IU/ml) and $3.13{\times}10^{-4}(IU/cell)$, respectively, from perfusion cultivation. The conveysion ratios from batch, fed-batch and perfusion cultivations were less than 12%, which means that about 90% of scu-PA secreted from the cells can be maintained during the cultivations.

Purpose: The objective was to determine the association between PaCO2 and adverse cardiovascular events (ACVEs) in carbon monoxide (CO)-poisoned patients. Methods: This retrospective study included 194 self-breathing patients after CO poisoning with an indication for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and available arterial blood gas analysis at presentation and 6 hours later. The baseline characteristics and clinical course during hospitalization were collected and compared. The mean PaCO2 during the first 6 hours after presentation was calculated. Results: The incidence rates of moderate (30 mmHg< PaCO2 <35 mmHg) or severe (PaCO2 ≤30 mmHg) hypocapnia at presentation after acute CO poisoning were 40.7% and 26.8%, respectively. The mean PaCO2 during the first 6 hours was 33 (31-36.7) mmHg. The incidence of ACVEs during hospitalization was 50.5%. A significant linear trend in the incidence of ACVEs was observed across the total ranges of PaCO2 variables. In multivariate regression analysis, mean PaCO2 was independently associated with ACVEs (OR 0.798 (95% CI 0.641-0.997)). Conclusion: Mean PaCO2 during the first 6 hours was associated with increased ACVEs. Given the high incidence of ACVEs and PaCO2 derangement and the observed association between PaCO2 and ACVEs, this study suggests that 1) PaCO2 should be monitored at the acute stage to predict and/or prevent ACVEs; and 2) further study is needed to validate this result and investigate early manipulation of PaCO2 as treatment.
Melt blends of polymide 6(PA6) and polypropylene grafted maleic anhydride(PP-g-MA) were prepared to study the influence of chemical reaction between the two polymer components. The tensile, flexural, izod impact, dynamic mechanical properties and phase structure were investigated for this blend system. Tensile strength and modulus of the blends showed synergetic effect upon blending of two polymer components. Flexural properties maintained the value of numerical mean calculated from the weight ratio of two components. Also, notched izod impact strengths showed maximum in th PA6/PP-g-MA 50/50 wt % blend. From the change of tan ${\delta}$ observed, we confirmed the increase of miscibility in this blend system by chemical reaction between PA6 and PP-g-MA. Blends of good impact resistance could be obtained when the PP-g-MA particles of $2{\mu}m$ was dispersed in the PA6 matrix.
In this study, binary PA 6,6/EPM(or EPM-g-MA) blends and ternary PA 6,6/EPM/EPM-g-MA blends were fabricated according to the variation in elastomer content and composition ratio of blend, and mixing temperature and rate so as to investigate the degree of influence of elastomer content and average particle size, morphology, and distribution of dispersed elastomer on properties of blends. As results, under the constant mixing rate(250 rpm) and different five section temperature profiles(270-265-265-255-$255^{\circ}C$) in extruder, high notched Izod impact strength was the property of PA 6,6/EPM-g-MA(70/30) blend among binary blends. Notched Izod impact strength of this blend was 25 times improvement compared with that of polyamide 6,6. In addition, elastomer average particle size of ternary PA 6,6/EPM/EPM-g-MA(70/15/15) blend was $0.56{\mu}m$, which was fine distribution, and notched Izod impact strength of that blend was the highest of all blends prepared with the variation in elastomer content. But the properties of this ternary blend were decreased remarkably at the diverse mixing temperatures and mixing rates.
Microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF) Adsorptive polyamide-6 (PA-6) membranes were prepared using wet phase inversion process. The prepared PA-6 membranes are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), porosity and swelling degree. In this study, the membranes performance has examined by adsorptive removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions in a batch adsorption mode. The $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes display sponge like and highly porous structures, with porosities of 41-73%. Under the conditions examined, the adsorption experiments have showed that the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes had a good adsorption capacity (up to 120-280 mg/g at the initial copper ion concentration ($C_0$) = 680 mg/L, pH7), fast adsorption rates and short adsorption equilibrium times (less than 1.5-2 hrs) for copper ions. The fast adsorption in this study may be attributed to the high porosities and large pore sizes of the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes, which have facilitated the transport of copper ions to the adsorption. The results obtained from the study illustrated that the copper ions which have adsorbed on the polyamide membranes can be effectively desorbed in an Ethylene dinitrilotetra acetic acid Di sodium salt ($Na_2$ EDTA) solution from initial concentration (up to 92% desorption efficiency) and the PA-6 membranes can be reused almost without loss of the adsorption capacity for copper ions. The results obtained from the study suggested that the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes can be effectively applied for the adsorptive removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions.
