Study on Preconditioning of the clavier-Stokes Equations Using 3-Dimensional Unstructured Meshes (3차원 비정렬격자계를 이용한 Navier-Stokes해의 Preconditioning에 관한 연구)

  • An efficient variable-reordering method for finite element meshes is used and the effect of variable-reordering is investigated. For the element renumbering of unstructured meshes, Cuthill-McKee ordering is adopted. The newsy reordered global matrix has a much narrower bandwidth than the original one, making the ILU preconditioner perform bolter. The effect of variable reordering on the convergence behaviour of saddle point type matrix it studied, which results from P2/P1 element discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. We also propose and test 'level(0) preconditioner'and 'level(2) ILU preconditioner', which are another versions of the existing 'level(1) ILU preconditioner', for the global matrix generated by P2/P1 finite element method of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We show that 'level(2) ILU preconditioner'performs much better than the others only with a little extra computations.

Neural network based model for seismic assessment of existing RC buildings

  • The objective of this study is to reveal the sufficiency of neural networks (NN) as a securer, quicker, more robust and reliable method to be used in seismic assessment of existing reinforced concrete buildings. The NN based approach is applied as an alternative method to determine the seismic performance of each existing RC buildings, in terms of damage level. In the application of the NN, a multilayer perceptron (MLP) with a back-propagation (BP) algorithm is employed using a scaled conjugate gradient. NN based model wasd eveloped, trained and tested through a based MATLAB program. The database of this model was developed by using a statistical procedure called P25 method. The NN based model was also proved by verification set constituting of real existing RC buildings exposed to 2003 Bingol earthquake. It is demonstrated that the NN based approach is highly successful and can be used as an alternative method to determine the seismic performance of each existing RC buildings.

Introduction of Chain-Weighted Method and GDP Fluctuations

  • The Bank of Korea changed its method of GDP estimation from a fixed-weighted to a chain-weighted measure in 2009. The fixed-weighted method had had problems such as substitution bias and the rewriting of economic history. As a result of the change, annual growth rates calculated using the chain-weighted method from 1970 through 2008 turned out to be 0.8%p higher on average than the existing rates. The quarterly average chain-weighted growth rates were 0.19%p higher than the fixed-weighted ones, but they changed in the same directions. In this paper we analyze whether the differences in rates between the two calculation methods would bring about a difference in the cyclical characteristics of GDP. We conclude that although there were differences in growth rates after introduction of the chain-weighted method, there was no difference in the cyclical fluctuation.

Combined effects of salts mixture addition and microwave heating on storage stability of Kakdugi (깍뚜기의 저장성 향상을 위한 순간 열처리 및 혼합염 첨가의 병용효과)

  • In this study, several combined effect of KCl addition into bring solution, microwave heating of Chinese radish for 3 minutes and addition of two salt mixtures into half fermented Kakdugi were investigated to compare their improving effects of storage stability of Kakdugi, Kakdugi was prepared by salting in 15% NaCl solution for 2 hours and fermented at $25^{\circ}C$ and determined for the changed in pH, total acidity and reducing sugars. It was found from the result that the combined method of salts addition and heating treatment improved the storage stability by 6.4 folds based on pH change where salts mixture of phosphated, Ca EDTA, and Sod. citrate contributed the most effect. Changed in reducing sugar were greatly reduced by salt mixture addition while microwave heating and KCl addition affected little. Storage of Kakdugi at $4^{\circ}C$ after preparation with combined method could extend the storage life more than 8 folds of those Kakdugi stored at $25^{\circ}C$. However total acidity showed higher values for those prepared by combined method and stored at $4^{\circ}C\;or\;25^{\circ}C$.

  • The dissociation constants of benzoic acid, p-methoxybenzoic acid and p-nitrobenzoic acid have been determined at $25^{\circ}C$ in ethanol-water mixtures containing 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 65 and 80 weight % ethanol by the direct conductance measurements and the method involving titration of the acid sample with perchloric acid reagent. The results by the two methods have been discussed and compared with those by other methods.

Effects on Viability of Different Cryoprotectants Treated Mouse Embryos after Quick Freezing (침투성 및 비 침투성 동결보호제를 이용한 생쥐 수정란의 급속동결에 따른 생존성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to improve the cryopreservatory techniques of livestock embryos, the quick freezing method which is directly plunged in liquid nitrogen via prefreezing procedure without freezing machine was carried out for mouse embryos treated with permeable and nonpermeable cryoprotectants. The viability of frozen-thawed embryos were evaluated by FDA vital dye test. The results obtained was summaried as follows: 1. A total of 720 embryos were recovered from frozen embryos for viability test. Evalution of the fluorescein diacetate(FDA) vital dye test with mice embryos were resulted of 2.3 total mean score - evaluted in orderly higher mean grade of P3 453 (63%), P2 133(18%), P1 51(7%) and P0 83(12%). 2. An all-round evalution of these combination, the highest viability was showed in 3M ethylene glycol + 0. 25M trehalose treated with the copper prefreezing. 3. Effects of permeable and nonpermeable cryoprotectants combination were evaluated by means FDA score. 3M ethylene glycol + 0.25M trehalose showed the highest survival rates of 2.8 mean FDA score. 4. Effects of permeable cryoprotectants were evaluated by mean FDA score but the results were not significantly different each other. 5. In evalution of the nonpermeable cryoprotectants, 0. 25M trehalose obtalned higher mean FDA score than of 0.25M sucrose and it was significantly different(P<0.05). 6. There was no significantly difference between copper and stainless-steel in prefreezing procedures.

Optimized Germination Conditions and Human p53 Expression of Rice Embryo (쌀눈 발아의 최적조건 확립 및 p53 항암 유전자의 발현)

  • Rice embryo is more abundant than endosperms in nutrients such as proteins, lipids, and vitamin B1. In this study, we constructed p53 plasmid that could be expressed in a plant system, and investigated optimal germination conditions in a variety of media. For construction of p53 plasmid, we performed p53 amplification from pCDNA-p53, subcloned to TA cloning vector, and then reconstructed into pGEM-CaMV plant expression vector. On the other hand, we prepared a variety of imbibition buffers and complete media for efficient germination of the rice embryo. Imbibition buffers prepared with different concentrations of salt or detergent showed no significant effect on germination efficiency. We prepared further culture media, such as solid agar, liquid media, and paper towel to establish the optimal conditions. Rice embryo showed germination rates of more than 70% in the solid medium, more than 60% in the paper towel medium, but less than 25% in liquid media, although germination rate did not differ with varying concentrations of salt and sucrose in culture media. Under the optimal germination conditions, we introduced the p53 plasmid using imbibition method, and finally detected human p53 gene expression in the germinated rice embryo. This method might present a novel, practical approach for evaluating efficient gene expression utilizing imbibition method in rice embryo.

The mesa formation and fabrication of planar buried heterostructure laser diode by using meltback method (Meltback을 이용한 mesa shape의 형성과 평면매립형 반도체레이저의 제작)

  • In thi, study, we made experiments to fonn a mesa shape by meltback method with various concentration of solutions and found that unsaturated (20%) InGaAsP (1.55 !-tm) solution at a growth temperature was the most suitable for the formation of a mesa ,hape on the wafer which has an InGaAsP active layer and an InP cap layer on an n-InP substrate. It was difficult to form a proper mesa shape for the fabrication of PBH-LDs only by the meltback method; therefore, we fabricated PBH-LDs by forming the mesa shape with the meltback method after wet etching and by growing a current-blocking layer successively. As the electrical and optical charaleri,tiecs of MQW-PBH-LDs fabricated by above methods, when the cavity length was $300{\mu}m$, the threshold current was about 10 mA, internal quantum efficiency 82%, internal loss $9.2cm^{-1}$, and characteristic temperature was 65 K at $25~45^{\circ}C$ and 42 K at $45~65^{\circ}C$. /TEX>.

  • The variance characteristics of the calcium carbonate contents along to the concrete cover depth takes the prediction method of remaining service life of concrete. Calcium carbonate contents were measured by the Thermo Gravimetric/Differential Thermal Analysis method at three point, depth of 0.25cm, 0.75cm, 1.25cm from the surface of concrete. This prediction method contain some assumption that the chemical protection conferred on steel is through a passive protective oxide film which forms on steel in an environment at or above a pH of 10.5$^{4)}$ .

Effects of pH Control Agent and Co-Precipitate Washing Agent on Nickel Ferrite Preparation by Co-Precipitation Method (공침법에 의한 Nickel Ferrite의 분말제조에서 pH-조절제 및 공침물-세척제의 영향)

  • Nickel ferrite $(Ni_{0.75}Fe_{2.25}O_4$ was synthesized by co-precipitation method in order to investigate its behavior under conditions of the reactor coolant system in pressurized light water nuclear power plants. Ammonia or potassium carbonate was used as a solution pH control agent, and aqueous ammonia or potassium carbonate solution or secondary distilled water was used as a co-precipitate washing agent. The effects of the pH control agent and the co-precipitate washing agent on the production yield on the basis of the Ni/Fe molar ratio and the particle characteristics of final products were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDX and XPS. The production yield was almost congruent with that of the initial aqueous mixture in case of using potassium carbonate as a pH control agent, while in case of using ammonia, it was quite changed. The difference seemed to be due to the effects of $Ni^{2+}{\leftarrow}NH_3$complexation in the aqueous solution and of the pH of co-precipitate washing agent.
