  • To obtain a single phase of Ba2Ti9O20 at lower temperature than previious other researches. We investigated the effect of Zr substitution for predetermined portions of Ti in Ba2Ti9O20. In this study, the four compounds(x=0, 0.028, 0.048, 0.068) of Ba2(Ti1-xZrx)9O20 were prepared by coprecipitation reaction of BaCl2, TiCl4 and ZrOCl2 with (NH4)2CO3 and NH4OH as the coprecipitating agents and pH regulators, in queous solution. Owing to 4.8 mol% addition, the single phase of Ba2Ti9O20 showing high Q was obtained at 115$0^{\circ}C$ which is lower by 25$0^{\circ}C$ than the temperature in case of mechanical mixtures of BaCO3 and TiO2.

  • In this paper, The $TiO_2$ paste was prepared by changing the ratio of $TiO_2$(Degussa, P-25), binder (A-9540) and solvent. The paste was coated on to aluminuim metal plate to investigate the photodegradation of IPA. The best efficiency was obtained with increasing $TiO_2$ content and decreasing binder content. MEK is preferred to ethanol in terms of efficiency and the lower amount of solvent enhanced the rate. We, however, found the increasing viscosity of the paste and cracking with the lower content of solvent(MEK). In conclusion, the optimum activity was obtained when the ratio of $TiO_2$, Organic binder(A-9540) and MEK was 1.75 : 0.25 : 10.

  • EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), a chelating agent is most widely used in industrial applications, especially for cleaning of metals in water, frequently prohibits metal removal from water in conventional water treatment technologies. It could be easier to remove aqueous metal ions by the breakdown of DETA complexed bonds first. This study investigated the availability of $TiO_2$ photo-catalysis for the aqueous phase oxidation of Cu(II)-EDTA, under an aerobic condition at $20^{\circ}C$ with $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25) and 1.79mM of Cu(II)-EDTA. When $TiO_2$ loading was 2.0 g/L, the photo-catalytic oxidation of Cu(II)-EDTA was maximal. The tendency of EDTA adsorption onto the catalyst surface was affected by $TiO_2$ surface charge, and the oxidation rate of Cu(II)-EDTA by photo-catalysis was shown to be dependent upon the tendency of EDTA adsorption before photo-irradiation.

  • The Photocatalytic activity was investigated with the increase of flow rate in a $UV/TiO_2$ packed-bed system. The rate of phenol degradation over $UV/TiO_2$ (dia. = 5 mm) was increased up to 300 mL/min and reached a plateau beyond 400 mL/min. The bead photocatalysts did not exhibit a distinct difference of the phenol degradation rate irrespective of corrosion rates of glass beads and $TiO_2$ coating amounts. Degussa P25 exhibited a higher photocatalytic activity in comparison to other $TiO_2$ sols(Ishihara & N). The performance(activity and durability) of $UV/TiO_2$ packed-bed system can be enhanced by the use of $TiO_2$-coated glass beads instead of granular types that is easily attrited by the shearing force of flowing fluids.

  • $TiO_2$에 의한 광촉매 반응을 환경 분야에 도입시켜 본격적으로 연구하기 시작하기는 '80년대 후반부터의 일이다. 광촉매로는 $TiO_2$계 이외에 $SrTiO_3$계, $K_4$$Nb_{6}$$O_{17}$계가 알려져 있지만, $TiO_2$계 촉매가 보다 많이 연구되어져 있다.이처럼 $TiO_2$가 환경정화용 광촉매 등에서 주목을 받고 있는 이유는 $TiO_2$의 밴드갭(band gap) 에너지가 약 3.2ev로 390nm이하의 파장을 갖인 광에너지(UV)는 이들의 전자(electron)를 여기(exite)시키는데 충분한 것으로 알려져 있기 때문이다. 따라서 지금까지 사용된 광촉매로는 $TiO_2$(Degussa P-25) anatase type이 가장 많이 알려져 있으나 비표면적이 42$m^2$/g정도로 적어 효율성 떨어진다는 단점이 있어 비표면적을 크게하려는 노력이 꾸준히 연구되어 왔다.   • The Nb doped BaTiO3 was synthesized by coprecipitation method using H2O2 media in region from pH 8 to pH 11. The powder prepared by using this method was crystallized at about 20$0^{\circ}C$ and average particle size was controlled by heat treatment. Because of preparation having fine particle and relatively narrow particle size distribution, high performance PTC device was made of these precipitated powders.

Heterojunction of FeOOH and TiO2 for the Formation of Visible Light Photocatalyst

  • FeOOH/$TiO_2$, a heterojunction structure between FeOOH and $TiO_2$, was prepared by covering the surface of the $\sim$100-nm-sized FeOOH particles with Degussa P25 by applying maleic acid as an organic linker. Under visible light irradiation (${\lambda}{\geq}$ 420 nm), FeOOH/$TiO_2$ showed a notable photocatalytic activity in removal of gaseous 2-propanol and evolution of $CO_2$. It was found that FeOOH reveals a profound absorption in the spectral range of 400 - 550 nm, and its valence band (VB) level is located relatively lower than that of $TiO_2$. The considerable photocatalytic efficiency of the FeOOH/$TiO_2$ under visible light irradiation was therefore deduced to be caused by the hole transfer between the VB of FeOOH and $TiO_2$.

  • 산업화에 따라 발생하는 산업폐수에는 많은 종류의 유해한 유기물들이 함유되어 있으며, 이러한 유독성 유기물을 제거하기 위하여 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔으나. 기존의 처리 방법들은 2차 환경오염을 유발한다는 문제점을 갖고 있다. 최근 폐수처리에 광촉매를 이용한 광분해 반응이 기존의 처리방법들에서 나타날 수 있는 문제점과 폐수중의 유독성 유기물을 제거할 수 있는 환경친화적 공정이라는 보고가 있은 후 광촉매에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 광촉매 TiO₂의 표면특성을 XRD, SEM 및 BET를 사용하여 자세히 고찰하였다. XRD 결과 Degussa P25는 anatase 구조와 rutile 구조가 섞인 형태였으며, Aldrich Degissa TiO₂는 100% anatase 구조, KIER TiO₂는 100% rutile 구조를 가졌고 SEM 결과 Aldrich와 Degussa TiO₂의 입자형태는 작은 입자들이 뭉쳐있는 형태였으나 KIER TiO₂는 작은 입자들이 독립적으로 분리된 타원형으로 입자크기가 가장 컸다. 반면 BET 결과 Degussa TiO₂의 비표면적이 59㎡/g으로 Aldrich TiO₂(6㎡/g)나 KIER TiO₂(14 ㎡/g)에 비하여 매우 큼을 알 수 있었다.

$TiO_2$-Encapsulated EFAL-Removed Zeolite Y as a New Photocatalyst for Photodegradation of Azo Dyes in Aqueous Solution

  • Application of a new photocatalyst has been attempted to improve the efficiency and rates of photocatalytic degradation of azo dyes by using a model dye such as Methyl Orange. As a new photocatalyst, $TiO_2$ encapsulated EFAL-removed zeolite Y ($TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y) has been synthesized by ion-exchange in the mixture of EFAL-removed zeolite Y with 0.05 M aqueous [$(NH_4)_2 TiO(C_2O_4)_2.H_2O$] [$TiO(C_2O_4)_2.H_2O$]. This new photocatalyst has been characterized by measuring XRD, IR and reflectance absorption spectra as well as ICP analysis, and it was found that the framework structure of $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y is not changed by removing the extra-framework aluminum (EFAL) from the normal zeolite Y and the $TiO_2$ inside the photocatalyst exists in the form of $(TiO^{2+})_n$ nanoclusters. Based on the ICP analysis, the Si/Al ratio of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y and the weight of $TiO_2$ were determined to be 23 and 0.061g in 1.0g photocatalyst, respectively. It was also found that adsorption of the azo dye in the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite is very effective (about 80 % of the substrate used). This efficient adsorption contributes to the synergistic photocatalytic activities of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite by minimizing the required flux diffusion of the substrate. Thus, the photocatalytic reduction of methyl orange (MO) was found to be 8 times more effective in the presence of $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y than in the presence of $TiO_2$ /normal zeolite Y. Furthermore, the photocatalytic reduction of MO by using 1.0 g of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y containing 0.061g of $TiO_2$ is much faster than that carried out by using 1.0 g of Degussa P-25.

  • The degradation of IPA according to coating conditions was examined by $TiO_{2}$/p-25-coated aluminium metal plate. Inorganic(KR-400), inorganic$\cdot$ organic hybrid(TMOS) and organic(A-9540) resins were used as binder $TiO_{2}$ coated surface of aluminum metal plate was clear with all binders, and the adhesion of binders was good except inorganic binder. The activity for IPA degradation appeared to range in order A-9540>TMOS>KR-400. The optimum activity was obtained when the ratio of TMOS and P-25 was 1.6:10, and when the ratio of A-9540 and P-25 was 1.0:6.0, respectly.
