  • For the enzymatic conversion of 5'-XMP to 5'-GMP, partially purified XMP aminase from Escherichia coli was coupled with the yeast, Saccharomycrs cerevisiae, capable of ATP regeneration through glycolytic pathway. In order to elevate the level of XMP aminase in E. coli, $guaB^{-}(IMP\;dehydrogenase-less)$ mutant were introduced, and the yeast used as ATP supplier was treated by some method to increase its membrane permeability. The optimum conditions for efficient conversion reaction by energy-coupled system were investigated. As the results, a CH 41, $guaB^-$ mutant of E. coli K-12, showed 2.75 fold increase in the level of XMP aminase, compared with its parent cell. And the lyophylized yeast was the most effective at the ATP supplier. The optimum temperature and pH of conversion reaction were $40{\circ]C$ and pH 7.4, and the highest conversion ratio was shown under the reaction condition of 100 mM glucose, 100 mM inorganic phosphate and 6 mM AMP. When 36 units/ml XMP aminase used under the above conditions, the amount of 60 mg/ml yeast was sufficient to be used. Under the optimum condition, 71% of 1.8 mM(65.6 mg/100 ml) 5'-XMP was converted to 5'-GMP within 8 hr.

  • In order to simulataneously achieve surface type conversion and sulfur passivation of p-type InP, a Ha$_{2}$S plasma dry passivation technique was firstly proposed and successfully applied to the fabrication of ITO/InP solar cells. This new technique was expected to improve the performance of solar cells. The devices, fabricated by changing the process parameters such as RF power and plasma exposure time, were characterized and PL measurements were performed to investigate the passivation effects. As a result, H$_{2}$S plasma treated solar cells demonstrated better performance than that of (NH$_{4}$)$_{2}$S$_{x}$ treated ones.s.

  • In this report the thermochemical conversion of Sm2O3 to SmCl3 using AlCl3 in LiCl-KCl melt at 773 K is discussed. The final product was a mixture of SmCl3, Al2O3, unreacted Sm2O3 and AlCl3 in the chloride melt. The electrochemical attributes of the mixture was analyzed with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). The crystallographic phases of the mixture were studied with X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The major chemical conversion was optimized by varying the effective parameters, such as concentrations of AlCl3, duration of reaction and the amount of LiCl-KCl salt. The extent of conversion and qualitative assessment of efficiency of the present protocol were evaluated with fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) studies of the mixture. Thus, a critical assessment of the thermochemical conversion efficiency was accomplished by analysing the amount of SmCl3 in LiCl-KCl melt. In the process, a conversion efficiency of 95% was achieved by doubling the stoichiometric requirement of AlCl3 in 50 g of LiCl-KCl salt. The conversion reaction was found to be very fast as the reaction reached equilibrium in 15 min.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate effects of honeybee venom treatment on the body weight gain, feed conversion and growth rate' in pigs. One hundred twenty nine piglets(LY) from 12 sows were allocated into two groups; honeybee venom-treated group (66 piglets from 6 sows) and non-treated control group (63 piglets from 6 sows). Natural honeybee venom was administrated at 0, 3, 14, 30, and 74 days after birth. The acupoints were Hai-men(ST-25), Du-kou(CV-8) and liao-chao(GV-I) points at 0 day, the regions of castration and tail ampution at 3 days, liao-chao(GV-1) and Bai-hui(GV-20) points at 14(weaning), 30(move into piglet stall) and 74(move into grower stall) days after birth. Control group was injected 1 ml of saline to the same site. Average body weight at 150 days after birth was 98.44 kg in bee venom treated group and 86.24 kg in control group, respectively. Average body weight of treated group was significantly increased by 14.15%(P < 0.0001). Average daily gain of bee venom treated group and control group were 649 g and 569 g, respectively, increased by 14.06%(P< 0.0001). Feed conversion of the treated group was 2.21 and control group was 2.49, increased by 11.25% in control group(P < 0.001). Survival rate at weaning was 95.5 % in treated group and 92.0% in control group, at growing(74 days after birth) was 92.4% in treated group and 85.7% in control group and survival rate at finishing(l50 days after birth) was 89.5 % and 79.4 %, respectively. Collecting together, the results in this study showed that growth performance and feed conversion were increased by treatment of natural honeybee venom to pigs. These results suggested that the treatment of bee venom could be used effectively for the increase productivity of livestock industry.

  • In this paper, a 26GHz variable gain amplifier fabricated using a 40nm CMOS process is studied. In the case of an automobile radar using 79 GHz, it is advantageous in designing and driving to drive down to a low frequency band or to use a low frequency band before up conversion rather than designing and matching the entire circuit to 79 GHz in terms of frequency characteristics. In the case of a Phased Array System that uses time delay through TTD (True Time Delay) in practice, down conversion to a lower frequency is advantageous in realizing a real time delay and reducing errors. For a VGA (Variable Gain Amplifier) operating in the 26GHz frequency band that is 1/3 of the frequency of 79GHz, VDD : 1V, Bias 0.95V, S11 is designed to be <-9.8dB (Mea. High gain mode) and S22 < (Mea. high gain mode), Gain: 2.69dB (Mea. high gain mode), and P1dB: -15 dBm (Mea. high gain mode). In low gain mode, S11 is <-3.3dB (Mea. Low gain mode), S22 <-8.6dB (Mea. low gain mode), Gain: 0dB (Mea. low gain mode), P1dB: -21dBm (Mea. Low gain mode).

  • Background: Ginsenosides, which are bioactive components in ginseng, can be converted to smaller compounds for improvement of their pharmacological activities. The conversion methods include heating; acid, alkali, and enzymatic treatment; and microbial conversion. The aim of this study was to determine the bioconversion of ginsenosides in fermented red ginseng extract (FRGE). Methods: Red ginseng extract (RGE) was fermented using Lactobacillus plantarum KCCM 11613P. This study investigated the ginsenosides and their antioxidant capacity in FRGE using diverse methods. Results: Properties of RGE were changed upon fermentation. Fermentation reduced the pH value, but increased the titratable acidity and viable cell counts of lactic acid bacteria. L. plantarum KCCM 11613P converted ginsenosides $Rb_2$ and $Rb_3$ to ginsenoside Rd in RGE. Fermentation also enhanced the antioxidant effects of RGE. FRGE reduced 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and reducing power; however, it improved the inhibition of ${\beta}$-carotene and linoleic acid oxidation and the lipid peroxidation. This suggested that the fermentation of RGE is effective for producing ginsenoside Rd as precursor of ginsenoside compound K and inhibition of lipid oxidation. Conclusion: This study showed that RGE fermented by L. plantarum KCCM 11613P may contribute to the development of functional food materials.
